I appreciate the reply, and the Idea, and it sounds good. I'll run some tests as soon as I can, but until I find other modelers and programmers, the game has to take priority for a little bit over Input so I can get some work done on it, but I should be able to check this out soon. Thanks again force feed back that isn't just rumble motors is a priority!

PS- Also if anyone want to build one, VR input of an-kind with an IMU, I would be more than happy to help with the code, as I have a lot of it done :ugeek:

i already have an EDTracker on order but i would very pleased to build your setup if it is wireless because i have a virtuix omni on order and i think for all the people receiving an omni, the first question will be how to aim a weapon.
(especially virtuix is demoing their product essentially with FPS games).
just send me the details ( nosys70(at)hotmail.com )

Do you have a video of the building, setup and use of this?

There is a video of the use of it on the first page of this forum posting. As far as build goes, nope. You were the first that has asked about it(Very Surprised too!).

If you are interesting in building your own VR Game Gun, then find yourself a gun to put it in, or you can make your own. I ordered an Airsoft gun. These are usually made of ABS plastic, which is light and reasonable durable. You can order ANY one of them, it really doesn't matter, but the smaller you go, the harder time you'll have getting extras inside.
Like I have a feature when you put your eye up to the scope, the scope in game automatically comes on, and then off again when you pull away, but that would be harder to do in a hand gun.
So I suggest a rifle or something for your first build. Let me know what you choose, I will be happy to help EVERY step of the way. So step one, get your gun shell, and show me what you get;O)

Hi, looks awesome! If I decide to build something on my own, I'd rather choose something that has most of the electronics inside already, besides the tracker and I think the best one to start with is this

Don't you have at least a description of the different hardware and software and how you get positional and orientation tracking without drift?
For the switching to iron sights I was thinking off the shelf part like wireless touchpad attached to the front of your shoulder and conductive materail on the stock of the gun...

you have to decide the level you want to work, like purchasing the electronic parts and building the device from scratch (including writing drivers and firmware) or go higher level , like purchasing component (like a wireless sensor from YEI ) and try to make them compatible.

electronic components are cheap but requires a lot of tuning while already made devices are a lot more expensive but you can work immediately.

The EDTracker is a good start to study what has been done, since everything is open and published.

Well, I think for EUR 35 the gun that I linked above is not expensive at all...

the cabela is still available and offers a lot of features (joystick, button and all of this wireless) for almost free if you compare with an airsoft at same price.
The cabela has a lot of empty space to receive additional electronic.
on amazon , if you choose the PS3 version, it is only 40$ (double price for xbox version).
both are working the same on pc and xpadder (ps3 version is recognized guitar hero controller).
the ps3 version come with its own usb dongle.

this swiss shop even has it for 24$ (that is where i purchased mine)

As far as the firmware goes for the tracking(AHRS Attitude Heading and Reference System). You should go with this one: http://www.amazon.com/Attitude-Indicator-L3G4200D-ADXL345-HMC5883L/dp/B00CD239UG/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422812979&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=GY-80+imu Although you might find it cheaper elsewhere. I had to write custom Firmware for that IMU, all based the datasheets, and some other examples around the web, but I will make it available to you. Just send me a PM with your email, and one can get it from me this way;O) You CAN use other tracker, so if you go with a different one let me know I can write firmware for most of them without a problem.

Now as far as scoping goes, you want this : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AMC1V2C/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1944687762&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00L7D3880&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=16EZFSNG7HMZVEQSAK2W , Again you might be able to get it cheaper if you look around. It acts like a switch based on distance, that you set with a little screw at the bottom. Once set for its MAX distance(the screw), in code you set it like a switch. As soon as an an object gets close enough it turns on, and then off as soon as the beam isn't interrupted anymore. You can add on buttons of course where ever you want. If you want a shoulder one, then I would go for it! You can recycle buttons too, out of old electronics you might have lying about.

The Cabbella is a good choice too! If you want something that will be less playing around, and less work. GO WITH THE CABBELA's! However, I go this route because I don't mind spending a few extra bucks on something that will be programmable. If I want that from Cabbela's WIIMOTE, then I have to use FreePie(Which is awesome). With my system it is ALL done right on the gun, with no drivers hassle(It used standard Keyboard and Mouse Drivers).

As far as wireless goes with my gun, you CAN use Bluetooth, Xbee, Nordic, or Wi-Fi. The Nordic is a good choice, that is cheap and gets amazing range.

don't know if it is fast enough, but for transmission i would go for 315/433mhz since the 2.4 ghz band is already pretty busy on a pc with wifi, wireless headphone (i got logitech G930) , cabela dongle, bluetooth and other device (virtuix omni will also be 2.4Ghz )
