VR suit

ok one of you geniuses needs to make this and my life will be complete. we need somthing like the hal robot suit, but with exo skelington for fingers and feet also, and that need to be attatched to a hydraulic lifting anm which can move you on all axises and rotate 360 on all axises
here is a link to what im talking about (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ysb-Oko3Bg)

i have also attatched a schematic (lol) please geniuses build it, it would be so amazing.

    HI,

I think that will be one of the natural evolution of the thing, once the VR helmets will replace the existing gaming plateforms.

    Hi,
i started a Arduino project on building a suit. Since i don't have much time for this project, it's actually just a shirt right now. And It also just does motion capture without any force feedback. I think it will take a very long time until you can go out and buy a full body force feedback product, not only because of the energy source problem and expensive parts but because of getting admission to sell it. As soon as you expose someone to any kind of force, things get complicated.

And you would need a userbase who wants it enough. So first of all one needs affordable motioncapture to be fully immersed. One could have a force feedback add on afterwards but like these guys showed us (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/141790329/araig-as-real-as-it-gets), mechanics are expensive and the world isn't yet willing to pay 500$ for getting game feedback.

As itstoxin mentioned right, first thing you want to have in game are you're hands/arms like with razer hydra, leap motion next is something like prioVR and as soon as the prices droped enough to have this basic setting you will most likely have some feedback device on top of that. But i would prefer s.th. that rather looks like the exoskeleton from the movie elysium than that bulky thing from your video.

However, on my project i focus on affordable materials while still having low latency so i'm just using an Arduino Uno some ADCs, LEDs, Phototransistors and joystick parts. If you're interested have a look here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNn8GUOMFuo

    cheers

If you go this far then a floatation tank would be the better option for full body support - just need to waterproof the rift and trackers....

I don't think that will happen within our lifetime, at least not within consumer vr.

Application of light-based technologies for stimulating neural activity in the peripheral and central nervous system using different wavelengths from the UV through the infrared, is only the beginning of this field, and recent research suggests future applications of light as a tool to cure neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.
“Optical microscopy methods are fast becoming central to neurobiological research, leading to fascinating research discoveries and stimulating conceptual advances, some of which will be presented at Photonics Europe,” said Prof. Dr. Jürgen Popp, Scientific Head of the Institute of Photonic Technology Jena e.V. and Chair of Physical Chemistry at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, and co-chair of the Biophotonics conference. “Biophotonic technology develops rapidly and thus the fields of application and the specified knowledge grow at a high pace as well.”

I wish I had some change each time a futurist was ranting about technologies which could spring from some research in coming decades. I would be rich.

    :o
You also need to take into account all synergies between coming technologies. Same happened with VR. IMUs got cheap,
so the HD panels = VR is here.
Super advanced neurophotonic prosthesis are coming for amputees(=brain interface) and in parallel VR is evolving.
Self driving elctric cars, worker robots, carbon fiber replaces steel.....in 10 -20 years the world will look very different.
SOciety shifts to a more academic one where natural sciences and medicine will be major research areas.
Many more surgeons= neurophotonics implants= no need no produce real world goods anylonger. No C02. HA!
Expect the technological progress to advance much faster than before. People are more and more seeing the technological horizon, thus are working much faster and directly towards it.

If there is a horizon to technological progress this means human extinction and "virtualization" of it is the direct route towards it. I know that's not the most popular place to make this assessment, but VR is a little building block in the overall picture not a means end.

IMO humanity has only one chance to punch through towards a Type I Kardashev Civilization and see how far up it gets or die out from the reversal of the age pyramid within this millennium. I even think that might only be possible with sustained exponential population and energy production growth as I haven't seen any research that indicates that species can recover from a declining trend.

What is the point of using so much energy. Do i miss here something?

Basically in order to do more stuff we need more energy because efficiency is hard capped at 100%. You could argue that we don't need to do more stuff but I argue that doing stuff is the most important thing in life. :D
