New Oculus Rift not detected with Unity build

Hello,

I brought the new oculus rift this week (Europe) for working with Unity3D

Unity 5.4.1f1, Oculus utilities 1.8.9 installed.

When I'm working on the Unity Editor, everything is working fine, oculus detected, camera head tracking working fine.

But when I build a .exe, nothing works, the Oculus Rift is not detected.

conf :

Dx11
GC : Gtx970
Proc : i76700

The oculus is working fine with the oculus market place.

Any ideas?

Looks like Unity no longer reports the location of OVRPlugin.dll. Can you PM me a build of your game?

Done, thanks :)

Due to a configuration change in our build system, an unintended dependecy on the MSVC 2015 runtime was added. If you are seeing this error, please install the redistributable from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145.

After installing the latest beta 5.6.0b4 and realizing my VR project can barely run in the editor (it ran fine on 5.5) I reverted back to the latest release (5.5.0f3). I had thousands of errors so I reimported all my assets and the game now runs fine and smooth in the editor, but when I try to run the build it doesn't launch on the Rift and I get the "Security error. This plugin is invalid!" error.

I tried installing the redistributables as suggested, but the ones I had were newer so it wouldn't allow it. I uninstalled the newer redistributables and then installed the ones you linked to, but I still have the same error and it refuses to run on the Rift when I run a build, though the editor connects to the headset with no problems.

Any suggestions?

Is your build in a path with non-ANSI characters in it? There is a known bug that would cause the security check in that case. Try putting it in C:\TestFolder and running.

Nope, there are no special characters in the path or filename, and the build worked fine with the same path on the Rift until I tried to install the latest Beta and reverted (I tried again since my previous post, but with the same result).

I tried to build in a new directory as you suggested, but it still won't run on the Rift. I'm going to try a complete uninstall/reinstall, but I'm not optimistic.

Any other ideas?

Can you confirm Virtual Reality Supported is enabled in Player Settings and Oculus is in the list of supported devices there, too?

Yes, and I had tried clicking them off and on, with saves between, just to be sure, but it didn't have any effect.

On a positive note: I just finished uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling everything (Unity and C++ redistributables), and now the build runs properly.

Thanks for the help and quick responses!

Ok, great. Unity 5.5.0p4 does not have the MSVC dependency that may have been causing this before.

I am now experiencing this issue in a 5.5.2f1 build - it has successfully built before on that version, but no longer. I already had the redists installed.

Manually copying OVRPlugin.dll from <Unity install folder>\Editor\Data\UnityExtensions\Unity\VR\Win64 to _Data\Plugins fixed it.
