PTC v63 Release Thread

Thanks everyone for all your feedback on our previous builds, several bugs were identified in PTC v62 and the solutions for some have shipped, while others are on the way!

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v63 is starting to roll out soon for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 3.

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v63 jump on over to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v63" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v63 issues too.

It's best if you can post each bug you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately.

Share your impressions and let us know if you see any issues. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

Severem

I posted a way to get around the v63 storage changes. Read it.

Edit: You can just browse and export the files, not put new ones in

Why are you trying to block me from modding MY games on MY headset? Genuinely, what is the point? Revert this change. I'm turning off auto updates until you do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIDKHEPPiow

MrBIO I wrote some code and had the com.android.documentsui intent appear on the headset.  And yes it could browse /Android/data and copy/move "out" of, but it was unable to copy any file inside /Android/data.  The data folder is not visible, so it is not useful for modding.

Please don't kill modding re: the scoped storage change. This is a feature that really should be rolled back.

Please roll back the change restricting file access. Don’t kill mods on the quest.

Can someone please let us know what is meant to have changed with v63 as far as everyone here is concerned all it has done is make the whole user experience worse ? I've submitted a report about the home screen just blanking out when you come out of one App and go to open the Apps screen the whole menu just disappears then comes back as if you've just turned the headset on ? Updates even beta ones are meant to improve software and add extra features not break software and remove features (modding etc)  Please answer this as i'm sure a lot of people here would also like to know what is going on ??

please revert the changes on the android file, modding is a big part of the VR community. we should be able to do what we want with our headsets as we please. without modding a lot of these games will die off not entirely but it'll be a shell of what it used to be.  i love the quest very much but with this im put off and not really wanting to play

SAF changes are being blown WAYYY out of proportion. Meta didn't make these changes; Google did as part of Android 14. The SAF thing was always a loophole, not a feature. Additionally, it's still possible to access these folders with Shizuku, which uses ADB to give apps extra permissions as a middleman. For example, Zarchiver can use Shizuku to r/w Android data just fine, and it only needs to ask Shizuku for permission once for access to all apps. Apps need to integrate with Shizuku if they want to access other apps' data; starting Shizuku on reboot will be a minor inconvenience you'll just have to live with. Android 14 is by no means a modding killer, it took me less than 5 minutes to set the fix up. Turn on debugging, install some APKs, install some mods, ezpz.
