PTC v72 Release Thread

Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v72 is starting to roll out soon for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v72:

1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v72" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v72 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

I gifted an unopened oculus 2 to my in-laws for Christmas, A unit that was purchased last year but we never used. We had originally purchased two, so this was a great use as a gift.

Worked fine until an update black screened it. Tried to factory reset and now it won't charge, won't turn on, no response whatsoever.

What a joke. Don't even know what to do at this point.

Firmware update was being done, blank screen. Factory reset. Interesting... maybe I should attempt it on my unused quest 2. Since Quest 3 is working with version 72. But interrupting the firmware update will completely ruin it. Fully charged and no Factory reset is the best option. But that's unsure

I have set up my Q2 and had no issues, but it's on V71. My Q3 got V72. Q2 does have the new UI. I'm wondering if they are on PTC or official V72.

PTC is full so I'll have to wait until i get the official update.

Anonymous  they are on official v72.

I'm on v72 with Quest 2 and Quest 3.... both are non PTC.

So everyone is aware, all headsets are having issues. Even though I haven't seen any issues on V72. The original post has been taken down about the concerns of it, but Meta is looking into the issues.

To test this out I brought my good old Q2 out of mothballs today (retired a few months ago) and it started up fine,  and I then chose to update its software.  After all this, it worked perfectly but it only updated to v71, not v72 (no PTC btw).  I did get the new UI, which I still haven't gotten on my QPro/v72, lol!

I tried a few restarts with my Q2 but the so far the v72 update hasn't shown to be available yet.  Maybe Meta has put a freeze on v72 for now.  Who knows?

While my Q3 and QPro seem to be working ok with v72, they both suffer from multiple startup screens and my QPro seems to take a lot longer to initially startup (~40 seconds before the meta logo starts spinning).  I have subitted bug reports on all this.  Probably one of the worst updates so far imho.  At least in my case all my headsets are still useable.

Hopefully Meta will resolve all this in the very near future.  Cheers.

It used to be when apps got updated a blue dot would show on the upper right of the app's tile on the app library. Until you actually launched the app. Now, nothing shows, so unless you happened to update the app through the app library or the app shows update notes when you launch it, you have no way of knowing what's been updated.

NomadsAnIsland actually there are 2 ways of knowing if it got updated. Through the the download area or update selection will show what need to be updated. Plus the app permissions will tell you if you're on the official version, beta version,  or an older version.

The update section only shows what needs to be updated, not what was updated.

If apps get updated during Power Off there is no indication what is being downloaded, updating nor what has been updated when you next power on.

Having to check the permissions for each and every app is ludicrous.
