PTC v72 Release Thread

Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v72 is starting to roll out soon for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v72:

1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v72" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v72 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

TomCgcmfc Sorry for telling this... but my devices still work without any issue.
My Q2 still stands on Build 5127210.8540.150, while Q3 updated to Build 5047332.12760.510 at 20th Dec.

Both got new UI and the desktop app still stands with 72.0.0.500.353.

Hopefully they will fix the update issues with Q2/Qpro soon.

Buetigame  Glad to hear all's well for your Q2/Q3 mate.  So, your Q3 /v72 starts up normally without one or two screen popups before getting the usual confirm boundary panel?  This doesn't really effect anything, just kinda annoying.

Also, with my QPro/v72 I had to stop using the option to update and download backups when powering down the headset.  Otherwise, this would seem to get stuck in the update mode forever (tested overnight) and would never fully power down.  Disabling this option lets my QPro power down normally/quickly.  Another bug report was filed today.

While hindsight is 20/20, it probably would have been a good idea for Meta to avoid end of year updates, esp. during the Xmas holidays.  For most (but not all Reddit kiddies, lol!) v71 was nice and stable (and still is with my Q2).  You gotta feel a bit sorry for the poor Meta skeleton xmas support crew right now.

TomCgcmfc  do you know what version of firmware your Quest 2 was on before it updated to V71?

Anonymous  Pretty sure my Q2 was previously on v69 before updating it yesterday to v71 (both non-ptc btw).

TomCgcmfc  that's a fairly recent firmware version, so I'm not surprised it updated okay.  New Quest 2 manufactured  in Jan 22 with much older firmware, not so lucky.

NomadsAnIslandthe download section will show what was updated. And the date

NomadsAnIsland especially that place will show any apps that needs to be updated too. When I factory reset I have noticed it will show apps that haven't gotten the update yet, I'll have to either manually update them there or in the update selection, or shut it down and restart to do the update. It will show both updated apps as well apps that needs to be updated

Elijah_TitanSpeakerman  just charge it up, and wait for meta to announce that V72 has been pulled. Do not turn it on until then.

NomadsAnIsland here an example after I factory reset. And it shows to update from the download and the date will show after the update.
