PTC v72 Release Thread

Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v72 is starting to roll out soon for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v72:

1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v72" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v72 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

To look on what Version your app is on it will be in Settings>Privacy & Safety>Installed Apps. Click on an app and look at release channels.

Wow... another 4 posts in a row 🤔

TomCgcmfc I'm feeling with you and I'm glad you're getting not tired to send them bug reports!

Sutdown with Update/Backup doesn't take more time as usual (did test it with/without). Od course, if there is an update (like the last one, so called "72.1" [Q3-12760]), shutdown can take veeeery long. It even starts after shutdown, performs some tasks and finally shutdown again, as I said before. Sometimes, there seem to be very small updates that only take few seconds (didn't change the build strings either), most of the time there are no updates at all (while shutdown).

And no, no popups or anything like that during startup. More precisely, static logo for a few seconds, animated logo for some time (restarting takes longer as start-from-off in this phase), environment builds up, short black screen (only controller visible) and finally boundary confirmation while in passthrough, afterwards getting back to VR environment.

So everything seems to be working fine - hopefully it stays that way.

They really shouldn't push such updates to the masses at christmas holiday.
And they didn't keep in mind, that many people bought Q2/Q3s for Christmas...
So there were many, many Headsets coming from older firmwares at the same time!

That's really poor quality assurance for sure ☹️

We just got home from the store with a new set of Quest 3s, which are currently charging.

Reading the discussion above makes us a bit nervous! Is it now safe to turn the set on for the first time (28 dec 2024)? Can it get bricked by an update? Has there been an official statement from Meta?

Are there any change logs? Why should anyone Betatest your stuff without knowing the benefits even?

DwightMc25

Thanks for the update post "Quest 2/3S/3 Software Update Issue".

Could you please flesh out the technical information a bit? For example:
 - Is it safe to start up a newly unboxed kit, or will it risk pulling a compromised update?
 - What category of customers are still experiencing problems?
 - Once a headset has been successfully "debricked"/fixed, does it risk getting bricked again, for example by pulling the compromised update back again?

Best regards /Spel'

spelmastarn As I've read the post, they fixed the update problem... so it should be save for you.
But there are some devices, that will not start because of the former problem.
They assured to help them direktly.

For anyone to know:

  • long press power button (for at least 45sec) the device shuts down, reagardless of the state it is in
  • press power + volume down at the same time to start the device to the boot menu
  • use volume up/down to navigate and power to confirm - do so with factory reset
  • after confirmation the storage will be wiped and the device starts "as it's new"

If your Meta Horizon Mobile apps showing unavailable, especially the new Gallery App, make sure to uninstall the mobile app and reinstall it. It will show available to install

There is a way to rolled back to V71 Temporary. By turning on the PTC, if it's turned off, and turned it back off. V71 should be popping on the headset to installed. It will stay on V71 until Meta force you to V72 or you turned the PTC back on. Installing V72 by turning on PTC I believe is still the official release,  because when the update goes through the PTC turns off.
