Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v79 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v79:

1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v79" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v79 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

offbeatkid  I've just got V79.  And I'm going to provide meta with the same amount of feedback as they provide us about the changes to the firmware......................................

Best feedback so far, thanks Meta ! Love how you take care of your power users, no changelog, no real feedback on issues submitted, and on and on

You sould see how they take care of their businesses who spend money on ads... It's eve nworse! We have had probelms for years and no one will resolve them. We have moved budgets to other platforms beause of it.

May I ask why meta link requires developer mode to be enabled to even use it? Also can your developer team please bring back the option that allows developer mode to be enabled when I restart the device? It is quite bothersome to now have to re-enable a feature, so a native feature can even work for every restart. I don't personally want to pull out my phone every time I want to use "Native Meta Link PC VR". If you all could diagnose this issue or even allow developer mode to be enabled in the headset as an option to "keep developer mode on upon reboot". It would be great!!

Indeed, and why would you post a bug report when they don't fix stuff? - and knowingly push it out anyway as good enough - except for those who will have their headsets bricked.

How do they know its time to move to another version when so many have had issues and the updates are spread across the world with a 3 week time delay?

Just an astounding debacle all round. I would be ashamed to say I worked at Meta. Utterly unprofessional. A disgraceful pretense of customer support to boot.

And what about the fantasy versioning control? How the hell does anyone know what's going on with the code? An atrocious mess all round...

Well, after discovering the update to V76 etc. broke some connectivity with USB3 gen 2 ports, I got it working on Gen 1.

Now, it updated to V79 and the same cable in the same port that has been working for a month stopped working for link.  Just rapidly connects and disconnects.

I'm sort of at a loss as to how to provide feedback any further when things keep breaking.

Edit 2025-07-08:  Seems to be mostly fixed in v79.1029 Build 5092736.6440.340 - we are back to v78 levels of sparkles (worse than v74, but WAY better than the first v79 build).

v79 has broken PCVR with Virtual Desktop yet again on the Quest Pro.  The compositor artifacts (rainbow sparkles, diagonal 'tearing') which have been a constant visual presence since the new 'navigator' UI rolled out are now 1000x worse.  Video below - pay attention to the rainbow sparkles.  Despite what some might have you believe, these have actually been a problem for over a year - they were just much more sporadic.  They got substantially worse with the 'navigator' UI update that showed up for me in v77.  And now with v79, they are constant and unbearable.  Meta, please, I beg you - please just launch VD and use it for 5 minutes before moving an update from 'alpha' to PTC.

I've been having massive problems connecting to my PC since version 79. I use a Y cable for charging and using the PC at the same time. I had no problems up to version 78. Since the 79 update, neither charging nor connecting to the PC has worked. When I connect the cable to my Quest 3, I get a signal message (audio) every second that I've connected the cable. I've tried several cables (to make sure it's not the cable) and I have exactly the same problem with all of them.

Unfortunately, you can't downgrade to version 78 to fix the problem. I hope a fix comes very soon, because otherwise it's massively hindering my work and causing me downtime.

Is xemmastormx1 correct that you need to be in developer mode to use link? Is that why like the other user I get rapid connect/disconnect in windows and audio chime but no connection?

Yes, Meta should be giving us release notes between updates. But I am now on V79 and haven't noticed any problems. Maybe they can have a think to inform us more in the future.

It isn't really to much to expect these days.

I tried v79 and they changed when you open an app. Cool.
