Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v81 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

Release notes: https://www.meta.com/help/quest/172903867975450/

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v81:

1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v81" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v81 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

I had to update the link. It should work now. It redirects to the Meta Quest Release Notes on our Help Center.

FINALLY . . . ! ! ! ! ! After YEARS of asking (and not just me ! !) we get release notes at the same time as the PTC version is released ! ! We now know what bugs we are looking for ! Well done that person at meta that convinced everyone else it would be a good idea. lol ! This now makes it so much easier for us to help you.

Sadly, the posting of those helpful release notes was a mistake. The person responsible has since been fired.

Lose the different virtual environments for horizons slop... no thanks.

Good, I see Navigator is being made optional. However it should be put in the Experimental settings. It's not mature enough with too many bugs and rough edges for prime time.

And I hope the changes to Meta AI Assistant will fix the reoccurring bugs of not being able to change the voice selection and the diaglog box/window not opening.

The issue with v79 where power could not be supplied properly via a USB Y-cable appears to have been resolved.
After updating my Quest 3s to v81.1033, power was supplied properly.

I'm enrolled in the PTC, but I am not seeing the option to install v81 anywhere. I'm still on v79

Same here and I'm really excited to see this cause i want to pin my apps and watch movies in the new environment if possible.

Thanks

August 30, 2025

You may want to hold the excitement, as all the new loft environments (gateways to hell) have constant audio that you can't disable when watching movies.

I've been playing around with v81. Pinning applications is very useful, and now a basic version of it is finally here.

As a test, I pinned 3 windows and then launched some VR applications. Most of the time, the windows stayed where they were, but on one occasion, one of them closed again (or rather, didn't reopen). In that case, it was Spotify. It seems it's not always completely persistent under certain conditions.

Furthermore, I noticed the performance. The XR2 Gen 2 can barely handle 3 windows at 90 fps. There's now a dynamic resolution feature that reduces the resolution in the home environment, but that doesn't always seem to be the best approach to me. Wouldn't it make sense to introduce an optional 72 fps mode in the home environment without having to go through the power-saving mode? I tested it with the Quest Games Optimizer, and it seems to be better than 90 fps with constantly dropping resolution or stutters/judder...

You should have options to disable the Mirror and Horizon Portal like you did before the update, you only have an option to disable the Instagram wall feature. Not everyone wants or uses those features, or at least wants them in their room space all the time.

Please make them optional.

the mirror also eats tons of performance. the mirror should be optional like before.

Don't hold your breath! I've been in the PTC for years and still haven't received this update yet ? I'd guess it's only gone out to a few people in the US first before expanding further ? Maybe sometime next week for us in the UK ?

August 30, 2025

I'm in the UK and got v81 on day one, so it's not just a US rollout.
