Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v81 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

Release notes: https://www.meta.com/help/quest/172903867975450/

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v81:

1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v81" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v81 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

I hope that this speeds up a little so that we can update it

Quite like the new home environments - the vista reminds me of one of the older environments.  Pinning apps - love it!

Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

I also have V81 installed on the Quest Pro, which uses the XR2+ Gen 1 and has 12 gigabytes of RAM. It also has 90 FPS preset by default.

App pinning is a really cool feature, but with 90 fps, it's too much for the Quest Pro. Even with 72 fps, it's cutting it very close. Even when I set it to 72 fps, the GPU to 5, the CPU to 8, and lowered the resolution to around ~1200x1300, the framerate was just barely stable when zipping around in the home environment.

I understand that you are integrating these features now, and it makes sense and will be needed for the future, but you also have 20 million Quest 2s, etc., out there whose SoC can't handle it without further optimization.

There should at least be a home environment that is less performance-hungry, even if it's a bit uglier than this one. It's always about balance... and the 90 fps in the home environment is already a disadvantage on the XR2 Gen 2, and on the XR2 Gen 1, you can just forget about it because it has fewer reserves.

My Quest Pro has had controller problems since the Android update. Will say turn on lights for better tracking but I have enough lights on t get a sunburn. Maybe it's the type of lighting. Mine is led. Also always tells me controller getting warm will shut down in 30 seconds. Sometimes it will take a few restarting to get both working but sometimes in games one will disappear or just go wild. 81 hasn't seemed to fix this.

You probably need to be closer to the sun.😂 Seriously though, you made an interesting point about LED lighting. I noticed my solar powered watch is not charging if I put it under led lights as it's missing a couple of wave parameters. If the camera is also using that it could be an issue. Go outside and give it a try. If that works  you can find full spectrum led lights that includes infrared and ultra violet. It would be really interesting to know if that works so please let us know !

Has to roll out stopped as 9 days ago a few people got v81 then nothing ? i've been in the PTC for over 2 years and never have I had to wait over a week for a PTC release once it was announced, so just wondering if it's been paused due to a reported bug or something ?

I noticed one user here reporting that the brightness level was disabled and was causing problems with seeing what's on the screen. Not sure if that's what it is, but maybe.

It's been out nine days and I just got it on my Pro but not my Quest 2. Who knows when or how it's rolled out.lol

So far it's okay. With issues that have been mentioned. Overall I like the layout but worry about what they will do next that maybe a real issue.

I've posted this elsewhere, actually it was for this thread:

All these updates are an absolute disaster, especially on Quest Pro. The Horizon Worlds app practically became unusable since v78: it starts to stutter and hangs on a blue stuttering screen. Factory reset? No success, and it is always some work to put everything back: for NOTHING!

PTC v81 might have fixed it? Nope, nothing changed except for MORE BUGS with the PTC ones on top.

PTC v81 so far:
* Eye callibration is broken, does not work anymore.
* LINK with PC is not at all working unless the PC software needs to go be PTC too? Then I wait and use my Quest 3 via link instead (But I like Pro more actually).
* I had to factory reset again cause no menus, more issues. Then I got the navigator menu and now after a restart the navigator menu is just completely vanished with no way to get it back. At least there's a menu, the old one. I do not understand this Menu Houdini trickery. Is it a hidden option somewhere?

Issues fromv79.1033 are still there: (Quest Pro only)
* Horizon Worlds is STILL BROKEN, same issue prevails on the Pro
* the lost controllers in Epic Roller Coasters are still lost (issue since v79.1033) => mail sent to B4T Games, no answer yet.
* Controller issues are less but are still there (right controller not in place).
* 4XVR crashes, never had this before v79.

What I don't like: again fun home environments are getting taken away. The new one vaguely remembers the PCVR Home environments which you could adapt. Maybe it is ok to give people a choice what they want from environments still: new or old cfr the menu system. Although I got the new one for an hour and now it's gone?

By far the update cycle of the headsets are the weirdest and most unlogical out there, I don't have this kind of problems and bugs as much as here except for ASUS mobo firmware that takes a while to be solved...but they get solved at least.

UPDATE: I got managed to get into the Horizon Worlds Central and one condert ...but that's about it. And only by using the mirror in the Home, not the shortcut in the menu. All other worlds are still unaccessible cause it stutters and fails. The app crashes too (close app or wait menu). Are they working on it because the central I went into from my Pro is totally different and is that the cause (but Quest Pro ONLY) ?

Yep my Pro has the same issues.

I'm going to check some of this on my Pro. You can turn Navigator on or off in experimental now.

I do not see that option :/

I got the eye callibration working: you must go into passthrough mode in a bright environment because the dot is black. In the home environment this is in a black background. THen of course the black dot is not visible...

Controller issue: the right controller was never there at start: repairing it solved it...for now.

Sometimes the menus are not there. Must do a couple of restarts to get it working.

Can someone tell me if they really removed the functionality that made the windows follow you? I can't find it anymore.

September 6, 2025

Follow me function has gone. It's been replaced with an anchor to pin horizon slop in the drab loft environment or pass through.
