Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v81 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

Release notes: https://www.meta.com/help/quest/172903867975450/

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v81:

1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v81" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v81 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

I'm not sure if this was added with PTC v81 or was already integrated before, but I just now really noticed that you can launch PCVR games directly in the Quest without going through Meta Link.

And I think that's an awesome feature. You get into the game very quickly and the friction is massively reducedβ€”well done. Now, of course, comes the "but." There are features missing that are simply essential for wireless streaming. The user needs to be able to adjust several things themselves, such as the codec and the bitrate (even beyond 200 Mbps if they have the hardware). They need a performance overlay to monitor the current status of the wireless connection, a supersampling slider to push for higher render targets when the game doesn't offer it, and they should be able to decide whether a motion reprojection method should be permanently enabled.

All of these great features already e

xist, but unfortunately, they are hidden in your Oculus Debug Tool. How about you (finally, I have to say) integrate these features directly into Meta Link itself? The Oculus Debug Tool is not a pleasant user experience, and while launching apps directly via shortcuts is absolutely cool, it loses much of its value if you still have to run back to your PC to change settings.

Suggestion for improvement:
Take a look at how Virtual Desktop does it and consider if there are some things you could adoptβ€”from the UI and the available settings to some of the general ideas they offer. Wouldn't it be cool if you could simply press both joysticks and an overlay with performance metrics would appear?

Do you mean games you had to run through the Link App you have placed in your Quests library, and it runs them without opening link?

How did you add the games to the library? I'm thinking DCS as an example for my use case.

Both my Quest headsets are on PTC but only my Pro has received ver 81. Yesterday and today both received update ver 79:1033. Any ideas? My Quest 2 is on ver 79:1034 my Pro is ver 81:1034. A lot of issues but I do like the direction they seem to be headed.

This version must be as buggy as hell ?? It's been 2 weeks now and only a handful of people have received v81 it's the only reason I can think that this roll out has taken so long, don't get me wrong it's a good thing if that's the reason, it means Meta is finally listening to the PTC crowd that report bugs. Or it is so buggy that they have stopped the rollout until after Meta-Connect as not to have to explain to the press what all the issues are ?

Q3

Pro controllers

yep i updated since i was on the public beta testing let my headset download the update restart the controllers show updating notification well it went away in a few secs the controllers turned from flashing purple as it does during update to white and well my PRO CONTROLLERS on my Q3 is tracking the complete wrong bloody way fantastic headset update.

Mind you all i did was restart didn't touch the controllers just to come back to fcked tracking.

They were working fine b4 update. Unpaired controllers repair they well tried to update didn't work and well got the same results. Stuck here waiting for an update... downloaded the update 8/10/25

Its like Meta does stuff right to only break my stuff after I haven't touched it in 3 months. Like please can you not break my stuff just from some code?

Yes META your update of V81... Broke my controller tracking. I need to face my controllers towards me to get them to face the proper way on the screen of vr...

81 broke my Pro and Quest 2 trying to factory reset my Quest 2 for the last four hours. Just struck on bubbles with nothing else happening. The PTC bricked my last Pro. I had one month warranty left and they replaced it. PTC bricked my Quest 2 controllers and I had to BUY new controllers. I'm leaving the PTC for good after this BS. These guys don't care about the grief they cause.

People who are on PTC are very brave ! I wouldn't do it personally because I bought the headset in Germany but live in TΓΌrkiye which is not supported. I'd have to fly back to Germany just to get a warranty replacement. Given that there can be problems with officially released updates occasionally, I'd be to scared to go on PTC. I even switch off auto update until I know for sure the official update has no problem. I hope you get your problem solved . It must be very frustrating.

Increase more PTC quotas. I have been trying to rejoin PTC for the past two months and it has been fully staffed.

As I have been posting my Pro and Quest 2 were all jacked up but happy to post what I did and it fixed everything on both headsets. Here is what I did.

Here's the latest.

My Quest 2 came up with update to ver 81 and I thought maybe it would fix the issues I was having so I updated.

After it installed I only had passthrough and nothing worked still all screwed up. Bummer.

Being retired from IT I remembered reading to sometimes getting an update was tether to your phone. So I did. Guess what? Everything worked.πŸ’ͺπŸ€”

Tried with my Pro everything worked. I unplugged my router for 30 seconds put both headsets back on my network and now both headsets are running smooth as butter. I can't find anything that doesn't work right.

My Pro said it had an update to ver 81 so I took it. Everything is working great and the update added PCVR games to my drop-down menu.

I've tried just about everything I could think of everything and I mean everything is working smooth as butter. πŸ€ͺπŸ‘

I guess I'll post my fix it may help someone else. Thanks so much for your help and I'll keep you posted.

I’m not sure when you upgraded to what it looks like now but how in the heck do you see anything?  Reminds me of the liquid glass on apple.  I was in hospital with extreme food poisoning so went from V78 to Ptc v81.  Please isn’t there a setting so i can see what the heck I’m doing?

I think you are referring to the new Navigator launcher. If this is the case, you should be able to turn it off in the settings.

Go to settings > Advanced > Look for a toggle called Enable Navigator, it's in the experimental features section.

I hope this helps.
