Quest 3 suddenly won't save/use roomscale boundaries

As of a couple of hours ago booting into any app automatically sets a stationary boundary. I can define a new boundary just fine but absolutely nothing will use it now. Clearing the boundary history did nothing, hard resetting the headset did nothing. I'm on the most recent version. At a loss here. I don't want to play in stationary because I feel unsafe reaching out because it won't warn me of walls/objects or anything. I had been using roomscale boundaries since launch.

  • Somehow every app had on its own set its boundary to stationary even though roomscale was available. Did not know that was even an option. Hit it in the quick menu after launching an app.

I had the same problem and fixed it.  OP means once you launch your game, press the oculus button on the right controller to get back out. In the quick settings menus, toggle the boundary from stationary to room scale.  Then resume your game.  For me, that fixed all occurrences of the problem.

Hi, can you be more precise about what to do exactly ? I can't find the button you're talking about

  • I'm very confused atm. I see that in the quick setting I can change the setting and have the option "stationary" and "free room". But I'm developing a mixed reality app and we had "room scale" working. With "room scale" I mean I could walk around my complete room without the "free room" limitation. When I walk outside of the "free room" boundary (which is not the same as the room scale) I get the popup with the question if I want to create a new boundary.

What changed? How can I have real "room scale" back?

    Thanks

      Hey, Railon

Thank you for bringing this to our attention! As you have mentioned that you are developing an app, we would love to point you in the right direction for the support you need with this boundary issue.

We encourage you to submit a request with our Developer Support, so that they can look into these room scale settings further for you, and work with you to get them back to how you like them, as here at Meta Quest Support, developer tools are a little outside of our scope of support!

      We hope this helps!

      All the best!

  • I have this exact same problem, which only started today.  However, the proposed solution does not work.  When I go to quick settings, I am able to draw a roomscale boundary but as soon as I open any app, I immediately find myself in the staionary boundary again.  I have tried a Boot Reset and cleared any existing boundaries but it has made no difference made no difference

From what you write I’m not sure if you do the workaround correctly. You have to start the app you want to use. Then you open up the meta (quick) settings and switch from stationary to free room. Did you do it like that?

I guess v74 somehow sets all or most apps to stationary by default. Which makes no sense. Maybe meta will check this (, confirm it) and revert/fix it.

Replying to my own post:  issue resolved by pressing Power + Volume Down and doing a complete factory reset.  It meant having to download and reinstall every app overnight, but appears to have done the trick.

  • Thank you for posting this issue, I had exact same problem.  I was stumped looking through all my settings in Unity/OpenXR plugin but the Quick Settings > Boundary "Roomscale" worked.

  • I am also having this problem every game I play is stuck in a stationery.  Room scale isn't working. very frustrated. Why would you mess with the default setting when it was working fine.

I have the same issue! All my games require me to move around my room so this bug has rendered my headset kind of useless.

I'm having a similar issue with the boundary on Quest 3 - but only when connecting to the PC.
My roomscale boundary is fine on the Quest menus and when not in passthrough (showing the environment), but if I connect to the PC with Virtual Desktop or Steam Link it will launch the stationary circle boundary instead of staying roomscale.   It was working fine last time I used the Quest 3 about a week ago.   Currently I'm on v76 OS but it has an option to install v78.

  • i am having boundary issues also, last week i was playing Last stand which required walking around my whole house, it worked before today, now all of a sudden, every game is set to stationary and there's nothing that lets me make it room scale like previously was available, my Meta Quest 3S headset has been doing updates every time i turn it on its getting ridiculous and its obviously messed with my room scale and boundary settings, and no a hard reset/ factory reset has not fixed the issue. what's going on i literately can not play any games that i paid for that requires moving around the whole house!
