Quest 3 Controllers are not aligned in game?

  • I’ve noticed that in a lot of games, (banter, bigscreen, pavlov, breachers) the hands don’t line up with where my controllers are pointing, instead they point outwards. This is not an issue with the quests menu ui, they line up fine when im navigating quest menus. It is in game where this appears.

NOT A SOLUTION - MARKING FOR VISABILITY

Hey guys! I wanted to let you know that I've been talking with our engineers for a while about this issue. They recommend that you reach out to support so you can see what replacement options might be available for you. I know this is not the ideal solution you were hoping for, but this may be able to help with re-aligning the controllers for your Quest 3's. If you follow this link, then follow the steps that best describe this issue, and you'll be able to send an email, chat, or WhatsApp message to support.

This entire thread is a joke. It's been over a year and no one from meta has said anything except "open a bug report". Instead I'm going to tell everyone what a great experience I am having with my pimax crystal and the wonderful support I got from them. Please consider just selling your quest 3. They clearly don't care.

Can you tell more about the pimax? Obviously Meta gives a **bleep** about us so we need to talk about alternatives.

Super light, Light blocking, and uses halo controllers like a Quest 2. Wireless is still on the roadmap and is locked behind firmware. And it needs lighthouses like the Valve index but tracking is rock solid

so i got my kid the quest 3 about a year ago. i was a quest 1 user. Just today im trying to use it and im like, wow these controller feel out of alignment. Searched for a setting which ended up to me finding this thread. At least i know its not just me. Thought it was just the way i was holding them. Not an issue with my q1 or my friends q2. Super disappointing that not only is there not a fix, theres not even an option to adjust. So we have hand tracking but no ability to calibrate the location of our controller?

One reason is this employee marked this off as solved and then in the answer he says it's not resolved.  If anyone has any suggestions on how this can be brought up to someone in the can maybe help us I'm all ears for suggestions. This support is a joke and this headset literally destroyed my experience and confidence in meta.

Can we get this re-opened?

Since Meta has no interests in fixing this issue, I came up with a poor-man solution, laughable even. Simply stuck something between the controller and my palm, forcing myself to hold it at an inward angle to offset the misalignment. In my case I use my daughter's hairband, it works for me, now I can shoot much more naturally in game, but hey, it's not comfortable, you have been warned. Pictures attached.

I've tried to grip it in a rotated fashion, so to align it, but in doing that fingers are shorter in respect to triggers, so it's more difficult to press them and to grip it firmly. I guess it depends on hands and fingers size. I'll try to place something there like you did. I have silicone grips with a vertical strip that holds the controller even if you don't grip. This makes for a better experience because you can safely relax your hand and release the grip. In order to grab the controller in a rotated fashion I have to grip it loosely, keeping the hand a few centimiters back, and the vertical strip doesn't secure the hand anymore. Probably if it was attached a bit mor rotated clockwise it would be better for such grip, that still remains short for the triggers.

This pretty much explains my solution, and the drawbacks.

I picked up these grips and have tightened the straps so that they prevent my knuckles from passing through, thus allowing my hand to "lean" on the straps and keep my hand rotated at a consistent offset to compensate for the (gotta say it) "poor" alignment of the controllers. However, like you stated, this also starts to pull my index away from the trigger...  though fortunately still manageable.

I wonder how many other customers noticed this alignment issue and (like me) have started holding off on purchasing games for the Quest and/or grabbing them on Steam in preparate for the release of a better controller by another hardware developer.

I've made a thread post on X... probably it should be done on Facebook, but I don't really use it. RT if you can. https://x.com/theGiallo/status/1895400220823052340

I wish I had the design skills to make an adapter pad to 3d print to properly orient the controller. I'd make these for free to people if we can get someone to design it

You can prototype the shape using some toy paste, maybe one that becomes stiff. You can place a thin plastic film to the pad to preserve it, like the one for food.

Just got a 3s and gun games are almost unplayable. I have to hold the controller so awkwardly to make the gun line up it starts cramping my hands. Might just return and go back to quest 2 if meta doesn’t find some kind of solution.. Gonna contact support first tho

It's always a shock when I exit Pistol Whip (which has gun aim calibration) and I'm back in the menu with the controller laser pointer aiming off to the side instead of where I aim it.

The thing that still annoys me is where support told people to return their headsets for replacements, when this isn't a hardware flaw, it's by design. If this was a bug, the 3d models of the controllers wouldn't overlap the passthrough video of the controllers correctly.

I miss the days where the dev team actually visited this forum and talked to people.

I wonder if creating a new topic about this issue would make it more visible for meta since this one have a "solution" which is useless but for their moderators its solved.

Poor man solution 2.0, this one goes on your finger instead.

As pictured:

Still the same basic idea, stuck something between your finger and the controller, offsetting the misalignment.

Sigh.... hope they can see our struggle and fix this issue completely in Quest 4.
