Question

Anyone know of a good projector for 3D games and 3D films?

I don't want to spend much and might even look for a used projector if anyone knows of some good ones for 3D games and 3D movies. I would like one that used active 3D glasses Cheers!

@cybereality - You might know some also?

PowerDVD works, but for me, they quickly stopped supporting the basic edition that came with my Blu-ray player for my PC. It gave me so many major problems, so many times, right when i was about to eat a hot pizza i ordered and start up a movie, causing me to eat a cold pizza or watch youtube by the time i gave up troubleshooting.... that i highly recommend you not pay for that pile of S.

cough, but feel free to *use* the newer editions though...cough

I use Stereoscopic Player for playback.
If the disc/ISO has 1 main movie ssif file I play that directly. If the disc has encryption, I remove it with AnyDVD HD.
Otherwise I rip/convert it with DVDFab to mkv.

The projector should switch to 3D mode automatically for an HDMI 1.4a 3D signal. It should come on the auto setting. The only reason you would need to change it is if you want to use a SBS video (such as on YouTube or a Blu-Ray rip file). This is not needed for gaming w/ 3DTV Play or supported software, as that uses the HDMI signal.

Total Media Theater is also good but, honestly, I haven't used Blu-Ray software in years (since getting my PS4). That and I rarely watch movies but I really should get back into it. Also, if you want to get a 3D Blu-Ray, get Dredd. I think that movie has the best 3d effects I've seen to date.

@cyberreality I just tried running a side by side demo film using Nvidia 3D vision Play and I don't get 3D. What am I doing wrong here? When I view this on my monitor using Nvidia 3D vision I see this demo in 3D, so why not on my projector? Under the 3D setting on my projector the settings are 3D mode - DPL Link/ 3D format - Auto/ 3D to 2D = 3D/ 3D sync invert - off/

This is a side by side video demo I'm using in Nvidia 3D vision player using an avi file. In the Nvidia player setting layout, I have it set to side by side right image first. I also have the view set at steroscopic. Like and I said this works with my computer screen and Nvidia 3D vision glasses, but doesn't work on my projector?

Just one other thing. How do I even know the DPL glasses are on or off? I don't see any light to indicate if they are on or off? Cheers!

Your computer may be getting confused. I don't think you can use both Nvidia 3D Vision and Nvidia 3DTV Play at the same time. In the Nvidia stereoscopic settings, you should choose Nvidia 3DTV Play (there should be an option in the middle somewhere). You can also just disconnect your monitor (and use just the projector) as a test as well.

Projector setting should be on DLP-Link and Format Auto. You can manually select SBS (for programs that don't support 3D hardware, like YouTube), but this becomes really cumbersome. It's easier to download the video to a file and play it with supported software.

For the glasses, be sure they are fully charged. They may arrive with no battery power left. After they are charged for several hours, start some 3D content like a game or video and put the glasses on and press the button near the side on the front (or sometimes the button is in the middle over your nose). This will turn them on. The sync should be automatic. Sometimes you can get the eyes switched temporarily. Usually just pressing the button again will fix this. As a last report you can set the 3D sync invert in projector settings, but normally you should leave this alone.

    Hope that helps.

@cyberreality - First let me say that I ended up getting the Optima GT 1080e, I preferred the short throw and I do not need an emitter to get 3D, is this correct? I don't see a setting to change to Nvidia 3D Play. I just see a setup wizard for the Nvidia 3D vision glasses. I used this setup with my computer to get 3D running on my Benq 3D monitor.

I'll try it with my monitor unplugged but not knowing if these glasses are on or off is a bit of a nightmare. Do they hust switch themselves off after a while? Also, I did notice my projector is only running at 50 Hz and I thought you need to run it at 120Hz to get 3D? I don't see a setting on the monitor to change the Hz to 120Hz and in the Nvidia setting setting it only goes to 60Hz? Can you tell me if this is normal or should it be 120Hz to get 3D on the projector?

There should be a drop down in the stereoscopic setting in the middle of the Nvidia settings with a listing for each of your monitors. After selecting the projector there should be a 3DTV Play icon.

If that doesn't work, you can try unplugging your BenQ monitor (but leaving the 3D Vision emitter connected). This should unlock 3DTV Play mode in the Nvidia driver.  If not, you can try unplugging both the monitor and emitter and downloading the software separately and seeing if that helps (but you may have to pay after the trial so try this last).

The projector and desktop resolution should be 1920x1080 at either 60Hz or 50Hz (it's 60Hz in the US but I'm not sure if you guys still use 50Hz over there). Once it automatically goes into 3D mode, the refresh will adjust itself (usually to 120Hz). This is normal.

@cybereality The only way I can get this projector to work with 3D is using the HDMI port, so now I have no port that work for the Oculus CV1? Not only that but the projector refresh rate will only go upto 24 Hz. Please look at the pic I have uploaded and can you figure out whats going on here please Cyber? All my other ports are display ports and the projector won't even allow me to run 3D on them and also displays the desktop weird. Ill try get a pic of that, but in the meantime what is this 24Hz? I uploaded the file because it's hard to see in the pic!
