Missing the "Old" home environments?

After a long 10-hour workday, one of my favorite ways to reset and recharge was slipping into my Quest home environment. Cascadia was always my favorite — peaceful, open, a place where I could truly unwind and reset my compass. Ryokan Retreat with its koi pond, Desert Terrace with the hot air balloons at sunrise, and Winter Lodge with that cozy vacation warmth… each one gave me space to breathe. Now, with the older home environments gone, I really feel the loss. The new ones feel confined, with boundaries that keep you from exploring. They lean toward pushing social interaction, which is great sometimes, but not what I’m looking for every time I put on the headset. I love exploring other worlds, concerts in Horizons worlds, and 360 YouTube videos of places I’ll be visiting — but I also just want a spacious, relaxing home to return to. Something that feels like my place in VR. The old environments gave that sense of openness and serenity. The new ones feel smaller, more limited. Meta, I hope you’ll bring back some of the old favorites — they weren’t just backgrounds, they were sanctuaries. Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this and maybe we will all find our home.

    Well,

after the update today i think the old home environments are still there but hidden in an other menu. So, theres only one home environment now? That sucks, the old ones was soooo relaxing. Don't know why meta updates makes it every time more uncomfortable

Thanks. I did see that after the update but when I brought up Cascadia it looked like it was bombed and like it merged with part of something else and it was frozen. I will try again when I get home. Thank you for sharing. Have a great weekend

I too had a look at all the environments and it looks like meta are slowy dismantling them. It's a shame really as the environments were one of the few good things they did.

Eh, what software version are you on? I'm on 79.1027 and still have all the standard environments on my Q3.

The new environment comes with v81.

    New updates to Immersive Home

With the v81 release, we're excited to introduce new updates to the way you experience home in Meta Horizon. Immersive Home gets a visual refresh with new scenery that’s easily accessible by pressing the left menu button. However, with this update, you will no longer have access to their previous home environments due to incompatibility with the enhanced functionality of v81, specifically, the larger Immersive Home footprint with more areas you can navigate, interact with, and customize.

Maybe just enjoy all the different home environments......... as long as you still can😉

They could release the old home environments as a dedicated app. This is the third time that meta have evicted people from their homes.

It is a PTC build. They are forcing everyone on the PTC to test the new home code. That does not mean they won't bring the old stuff forward to the new version.

I am not saying Meta would not do such a thing, we all know they would. I am saying, being removed from a single PTC build does not mean much.

I had a recent update v81 1031, I was already on 1033??? And now the 'old' homes are gone completely. My Quest 2 is staying on v79 until it dies.

I'm still laughing that someone on v79.1032 upgraded to 79.1033 and now their headset says it is on v79.1031 😁.

All these updates are an absolute disaster, especially on Quest Pro. The Horizon Worlds app practically became unusable since v78: it starts to stutter and hangs on a blue stuttering screen. Factory reset? No success, and it is always some work to put everything back: for NOTHING!

PTC v81 might have fixed it? Nope, nothing changed except for MORE BUGS with the PTC ones on top.

    PTC v81 so far:
    * Eye callibration is broken, does not work anymore.
    * LINK with PC is not at all working unless the PC software needs to go be PTC too? Then I wait and use my Quest 3 via link instead (But I like Pro more actually).
    * I had to factory reset again cause no menus, more issues. Then I got the navigator menu and now after a restart the navigator menu is just completely vanished with no way to get it back. At least there's a menu, the old one. I do not understand this trickery.

    Issues fromv79.1033 are still there:
    * Horizon Worlds is STILL BROKEN, same issue prevails on the Pro
    * the lost controllers in Epic Roller Coasters are still lost (issue since v79.1033)
    * Controller issues are less but are still there (right controller not in place).
    * 4XVR crashes, never had this before v79.

What I don't like: again fun home environments are getting taken away. The new one vaguely remembers the PCVR Home environments which you could adapt. Maybe it is ok to give people a choice what they want from environments still: new or old cfr the menu system. Although I got the new one for an hour and now it's gone?

By far the update cycle of the headsets are the weirdest and most unlogical out there, I don't have this kind of problems and bugs as much as here except for ASUS mobo firmware that takes a while to be solved...but they get solved at least.

I read that in v81, the default UI has reverted from Navigator to the Universal Menu, but they have supposedly added a setting that allows you to switch it back to Navigator 🤷‍♂️. How ridiculous is that.

Generally, I think it's good to give users the choice whether or not they want to use Navigator.

I don't have it yet, but from what I've read, many people don't like it.

So...... I'm more than happy that I won't be forced to use it if I ever get Navigator on my headsets.😁

Maybe someone might be able convert them into steam home environments for nostalgia's sake?

If there's a choice to change between universal vs navigator menu, they hide it well cause I do not find it.

    Inspiring
    September 7, 2025

Yeah, someone could definitely do that. And if you're wondering, the toggle to switch between Universal Menu/Navigator is in advanced settings!

No hand tracking options to engage in the new temporary environments. Left controller 'meta' button to pull up the different backgrounds.

No wrinkly rugs and no Oculus logo Easter eggs. 🙁
