Have you tried either of those two mods you posted?

Yes, I have all 8 levels of Bioshock installed, only played the first level - and I guess I'm about 90 % through C17YSCAPE, the latter is by far the best of the two mods. It's a 2GB extra level.

C17YSCAPE is a perfect Alyx class level. Bioshock has the environments, but lacks new enemies, so that one doesn't feel as perfect to me - but still great fun.

OK I will go ahead and give C17YSCAPE a whirl then much thanks.

I actually agree with this meme! With the recent news of Valve submitting their Inside-Out tracking patent in 2021... it serves to reason that the next iteration of the Index will utilize this superior form of tracking. Resistance is futile indeed!

😁

Btw, lately another game I've greatly enjoyed with the Index is Maskmaker. Sure this isn't Alyx, and you may even start to feel the limitations of the PS4 processors here (the game was made for PCVR and PSVR, I believe the poly count was set after the PS4 cpu), but the story is interesting. Not going to repeat vids and images here - I've made a thread for the game here:

https://forums.oculusvr.com/t5/Games-and-Apps/Maskmaker-has-launched-from-the-makers-of-the-award-winning-A/m-p/862298

Actually I have both the Steam version for the Index, and the Oculus version for my CV1. The devs were kind enough to send me a free Oculus key, so my 9 year old son could experience the game with the CV1 too. Index is for adults, not for 9 year-old kids - seems the devs understood that, lol.

Yeah, unfortunately this is only true because of the over-sized Knuckles; as seen here by a reddit poster letting their 4-year old try the Knuckles:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ValveIndex/comments/bp568v/psa_i_let_my_4_year_old_try_the_index_controllers/

It's just the Knuckle controllers that cause the Index to be utilized by older kids. Although, VR isn't recommended for children under the age of 13 anyway.

Maybe Valve will make smaller hand-controllers when they release their new Inside-Out Tracking headset.

^^Yeah the steam workshop is very easy to use, you can usually do it from inside the game, but you can also just go to the A:HLVR store page, then click workshop, and it will take you to all the mods, then just tick subscribe on the mod you want to install and the mod will be downlaoded automatically to the game.........workshop is great.

Ok so I have decided for my next play through of Alyx and also a mod or two for it, I intend to do so with a new Valve Index. As long as I like the unit I will just plan on using it for all my made for VR games and use my Reverb G2 with my flight and racing sims. If for some reason I am not pleased with it I am sure I can sell it without too much a loss.

Placed an order this morning for the whole kit - delivery should be here within a week or less.

Really looking forward to checking this puppy out.

I'm surprised you are getting an Index also, G2 sounds like a nice headset for PCVR games? You may struggle with the index after seeing the clarity of the G2 displays, FOV will be nice upgrade though.

Yeah you may be right but I am anxious to try it out and see for myself. Plus I should be able to do some decent SS with it with the rig I am running.

Any tips you might have for camera placement would be much appreciated.

I am thinking maybe a stand for each one might suit me best, any recommended ones you might know of ?

I am thinking maybe these stands?

Edit: Ordered the above, I am sure it will work fine.

I just screwed mine on the wall as well with the accompanying brackets diagonally and just forgot about them. Tracking has been superb as good as the touch controllers which I had 3 sensors to achieve the same accuracy. However if you need to move rooms for any reason I guess a stand would be useful.

My two LH's are placed in each corner of the room diagonally from each other and i have no tracking issues at all, and i get 360 room coverage, but mine are fixed to the wall which was two min job, but those stands will do just a good.

Thanks for the feedback - yeah I think for me this will work out quite well.

Here's also and great guide (I think, haven't read it all, lol - it's very long!) - to SteamVR and the Valve Index:

Might need quite a big cup of coffee to get through that one... 😄

Btw, if needed use 5 Ghz wifi for the Index rig, as Index controllers may interfere with 2.4 Ghz wifi. At least it did for me, but 5 GHz works flawlessly. But no problem if you don't play online multiplayer games, lol.
