Took a few shots of Aircar - using Index res 250%. That game/app looked simply stunning with res 250%. First I thought I may not be able to do more than solid 90 fps, but 120 fps worked perfectly too - didn't try 144 fps.

Aircar - the perfect way to cure a stomach pain when you've eaten too much! πŸ€£

Now, Aircar is special - can't say I didn't feel it in my stomach when first starting the 120 fps res 250% show, but that's probably very realistic and exactly what I'd be experiencing sitting in a real Aircar, lol.

Rs 250% with the Index, I wonder if these settings are fully implemented in the shots - but I don't see any jaggies...

It's the one game where I could want to use a Vive Pro 2 or Reverb G2, but I'm fine with the Index. I got 6 of the turbo thingies last night...

Btw, seems turbo pressing the B button on the left controller only works after you use the Aircar Index controller configuration in your SteamVR controller settings.

I did about 45 min of Aircar last night. My stomach is now forever cured of any motion sickness πŸ‘Œ πŸ‘

I will certainly be very excited when all the information on Valve's next headset is made available and when it will be released. What we are learning so far - I am very encouraged by.  They just may knock one out of the park.

Heck Lighthouse 2.0 tracking is absolutely incredible.

Had a pretty awesome experience last night, namely this game: From Other Suns - released Nov 14 2017, 21GB size:

Never really played it using CV1, because even if the game looks like cheap PSVR graphics, many places I got reprojections using CV1 ss 2.0 with the GTX 1080.

Now imagine Reviving this game - Index res 200 % - using the brute force of the RTX 3090 - and now I got perfect 90 fps, even upping the in-game antialiasing to the max (level 4, had it on level 2 before). Maybe 120 fps res 200% will work too, didn't test that. The game looks awesome, even the lcd blacks - graphics are *much* better than recent low-end Quest of PSVR ports. Because From Other Suns is a real Oculus exclusive PCVR game (it's not available for other platforms, not even PSVR).

This is what you get using the Index res 200% in totally solid 90 fps with the RTX 3090:

Before you go on - how many polygons do you think are used for the ball? - And check out the reflections on the ball's surface too - this is true PCVR

Maybe this image is a bit boring - but again note the reflections and the poly count is nice too

Check out the awesome dynamic shadows in this shot - focus on the robots in the central part of the image to really see the shadows. The game has great volumetric lights and fog too. β€ƒ

Even if this game may look close to PSVR, models do look nice/great

The game does not seem to use temporal antialiasing, but devs didn't write which kind of antialiasing they've used. The game does not look blurry with antialiasing, so my best guess is that MSAA was used.

Again, to find really great PCVR games these days, we may have to look back instead of forward. Really love I've saved this game for a time where I can experience it in ways impossible just a few years ago.

Revive works perfectly, Knuckles totally become Touch. All buttons match. The game has an average rating of 86 % based on nearly 1,000 ratings in the Rift Store, thus that's a really high and solid rating. Get the game here:

Several members of this community went through full runs in From Other Suns back when it was released. It's a great game to complete. I would have to strongly disagree that this game contains "cheap PSVR graphics." That is just far from true.

Especially the final area, where the aliens and their world look quite detailed and amazing. Not to mention the alien infested ships that look quite terrifying. The detail and textures were fantastic.

The images in your screenshots look great, but in truth they do not look any better or worse than what I experienced on a mere 980. Including lighting and shadows.

Just tried this low-end Quest port Revived with the Index, and although it's one of the better Pistol Whip expansions, it quickly feels similar to all other Pistol Whip levels. I got solid 144 fps using a massive res 300%, a complete waste of the RTX 3090 - maybe I can even do res 400% in 144 fps with this phoneVR-like game, lol:

Seems not many can afford upgrading from Quest 2 to the Index, but this dude just did and fun to read his impressions:

The Index is extremely awesome, but especially powered by the brute force of the RTX 3090 or similar fast gpus.

Cross-posting the "I sold Product A for Product B" is always interesting, but it doesn't really speak to either product. There will always be pros and cons, and people will always sell one for the other.

There's plenty of reddit posts of VR Enthusiasts selling their Index for a Quest 2. Like this user:

After 2 weeks of using my quest 2.. I've now sold my valve index.

Being wireless has seriously changed my whole opinion of VR.. I used to really dislike getting tangled up in the cords.. I didn't like how cumbersome it was just to get setup to play with all of the above head wires and just wires in general. I can pack this up and take it on vacation with a ton of games at my finger tips.. no need to bring my gaming laptop with me..and even bring it with me when visiting family and friends to enjoy as well.

I'm now re-buying some of the games i own on steam..and that is totally fine. I did manage to get VD/Alyx working on wireless.. enough to finish the game which made me happy.

https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/l8sj7y/after_2_weeks_of_using_my_quest_2_ive_now_sold_my/

But cross-posting this stuff doesn't seem to serve much purpose other than to ignite the good 'ol Console War rhetoric. πŸ€”

Got a charging stand for my Index controllers. Had been meaning to get this and kept forgetting about it, so finally remembered long enough to order one. Gives me a nice way to set the controllers on and easily charge both with one cable running to the stand. I have the USB plugged into a port on my powered USB Hub with individual on/off switches per port, so I can easily turn it on for charging and off when done. No plugging/unplugging involved each time I want to charge them.

I figured these great controllers deserved their own stand as seems I will be using them for quite a while yet with the Vive Pro 2.

This is the one I got:

Sam & Max playable demo has arrived - but the demo only supports Index and Vive:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1431290/Sam__Max_This_Time_Its_Virtual/

Although I probably can run this low-end Quest port in 144 fps res 400% I'll give it a try later. Been a big fan of these dudes since the first game arrived in 1993. I guess the graphics look okay-ish for this sort of games:

Can confirm that Sam & Max is a total Quest port, or close - I've got solid 144 fps using res 300%. With the Index res 300% is 3492 x 3880 x 2 eyes = 27 mill pixels. That's 3,888,000,000 pixels per second (in 144 fps), or about 4 billion pixels per second, lol. Using res 400 % in 144 fps I did start to see some reprojections though, but that's more than 30 mill pixels per frame πŸ˜‰

Some short impressions - all screenshots taken using Index res 300% if that translates to the screenshots...

Graphics aren't that bad - Sam does have some crude dynamic shadow

A welcome gift from Sam, he shouldn't have... πŸ™‚

Max also has a dynamic shadow, check the wall πŸ˜‰β€ƒ

Best textures I found in the demo

Look, Ma, no hand shadow! But the cup has a dynamic shadow, guess we can't have it all πŸ˜‰β€ƒ

You know the base of a Quest lamp, when you see one = very few polygons, not round.

Nice image, even if this isn't exactly ultramersion res

A mixture of sharp and blurry textures...

Sam & Max never was about high-end graphics, might try the full game when it arrives - I do like Sam πŸ™‚β€ƒ

I don't think there is any benefit to constantly compare things to the Quest inside an Index thread. Why not just enjoy the Index for what it is?

Aside from that, there is a good thing to consider when being forced to evaluate whether everything is a Quest port or not: Is the VR Application built to have Substance over Style?

Games like Sam & Max are built to provide enjoyment through puzzle-solving that is meant to be humorous, outlandish, ridiculous, etc.

I think the wrong measuring stick is being used if we go in to something like Sam & Max with thoughts of whether it pushes a PC's GPU or not. That's like measuring the luxury of a Yacht based on its paint job when it's not being used lol

This game arrived today, but officially does not support the Index:

Get the game here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1003590/Tetris_Effect_Connected/

- I bought the game and tested it, and it works fine with the Index controllers. The hard drop button is slightly sensitive, so be careful with that one. Even maxing out in-game settings I got solid 90 fps using res 300%.

The game does have native Oculus driver support, but looks a lot better with Index instead of CV1.

Tetris Effect is one of the highest rated (VR) games with a Metascore of 90 and was considered GOTY 2018 by several reviewers. The game is made by the devs behind Rez Infinite, and is 25% off on Steam until September 1.

Having played both, I would easily rank Rez Infinite far above Tetris Effect as a VR Experience. Rez Infinite offers a much greater level of immersive VR Gameplay. Tetris Effect has great visuals, but at the end of the day it is still just Tetris.

Overall though, this news isn't really about the Index. Might have been better to post it in the Tetris Effect thread:

Two years later, Bethesda still has not provided support for Oculus hmds for Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, but the game supports Index, Vive and WMR. Cyberpilot is on sale for about $7 right now, which is close to 70% off. While much can be said about Cyberpilot, $7 is a great price if you have the rig to run the game.

I really don't think even a RTX 3090 is enough to experience this game optimally, but we're getting there. Cyberpilot is very blurry, probably due to devs scaling res down to increase performance. Here the RTX 3090 is your great friend, and when reaching Index res 375 - 450 % Cyberpilot starts to look - dare I say - awesome-ish πŸ™‚

- like this: πŸ˜ˆ

Get the game here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1056970/Wolfenstein_Cyberpilot/

Even the RTX 3090 struggles with res 450%, but I do get 90 fps here'n there, but res 375% seems to be the sweet spot with the Index and RTX 3090.

I don't think I'd consider anything but a 2080 / 2080 Ti as the bare minimum for this game - you need to be able to reach res 300% in SteamVR. If you can do that, Cyberpilot starts to shine. I've spent 3 hours in the game, I'll be back in the game for another nazi barbecue later tonight πŸ˜‡

Nobody seems to be asking for this game to "officially" support Oculus HMDs. Considering that this title received bad reviews at launch, and continues to get bad reviews today... there isn't much need nor demand for the Devs to update it.

For example, after 2 years this title only has 165 reviews on Steam, and they are not great.

For Oculus HMD owners, there's a much better option: Play Return to Castle Wolfenstein on your Quest! πŸ˜

As for a much better Mech Game experience in VR, Archangel Hellfire is highly recommended.

There's even a free Demo!

I really consider the RTX 3090 the minimum to play Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot - you need 90 fps in the game and at least res 375% to remove the massive blurriness. Persons having played Cyberpilot with lesser cards than the 3090 simply have no clue how this game can be.

I took some shots with the Index res 375 % - the blur is gone, or close - maybe a RTX 4090 will be optimal, lol, but I'm having a great time in the game for now:

(Click to enlarge, and note that the image quality is much better using the Index - the images below are downscaled to 1024 pixel width)

My hand in the game - great textures

Dynamic lights and shadows look awesome

"Flame on!" - the beginning and the end of another Nazi barbecue...

With res 250% you can now read the text on screens! πŸ™‚

Plants look fine in Cyberpilot too πŸ™‚

Texture quality - but only using SteamVR res 375%

More texture quality

Big Daddy...

Close up

Nazis play arcade machines too 😎

Random wall decoration - but check the quality

Awesome room

Model details - check out the amount of polygons on that toy soldier!

Another great model

Many robots or whatever - and awesome lighting

Totally awesome dynamics lights - and shadows

More lights and shadows

My new ride - but it's gonna wait until tomorrow

My new ride - details

More details

For $7 I think you get an awesome amount of quality and content when buying Cyberpilot on sale - but you really need a RTX 3080 or better to run the game. I'd easily rate the game 5/10 using my old GTX 1080, and 8/10 using the RTX 3090.

Hmm, anyone who has upgraded a GPU would surely have "some clue" how good a games graphics can look between two cards. In 10 years we'll have GPUs that put the 3090 to shame, so does that mean that 3090 owners today have "no clue how these games can be?"

Besides, upgrading the GPU doesn't change the game at all. The game function and mechanics remain the same. Only the visuals change.
