Not sure having two instead of one is a bad thing

Got the usb-c converter cable in (no pun intended) and connected the Rift HMD and booted the rig. Started the Oculus desktop app, and the CV1 HMD was not detected, sigh. Tried again, took out the cables and reconnected them again - started device setup - and voila:

I put on the CV1 HMD, Oculus Home started up as usual. Everything seems completely normal. Note that I had the Index connected too - but Index shouldn't interfere with Oculus Home I guess. More interesting was SteamVR.
I rebooted the rig - started Steam and then SteamVR - and voila again - the Index HMD turned on and I was in SteamVR Home using the Index. There was no sound though - but then I checked and sound had indeed changed to Rift audio - had to change it to Index audio (can probably be set up in SteamVR), and now sound worked perfectly using the Index - proof of CV1 and Index being connected at once:

I haven't tried starting SteamVR Home from Oculus Home, and I don't think I'll press my luck that far for now. Instead I'll probably remove all SteamVR apps from Oculus Home and use Index for all SteamVR games and apps. Need to test it more, but so far all is looking good. Looking forward to become a bird again later tonight, Index (Revive) can't do that for now ;)

That's cool about both being able to be connected at same time, I never tried that with my CV1 and Rift S, I just use Rift S and kept CV1 unplugged. I bet a lot of people unplug one HMD and use one at a time because they probably think they will conflict or not work so people get scared to take a risk.

P.S. Who's Dan?  :p

DAN = Danish ;)

I think it's much easier with CV1 and Rift-S, some dudes tried it and you then just select the active HMD in the Oculus desktop app (only one can be active) - with Index it may be slightly more complicated, maybe...

PS. Maybe it's a good thing that SteamVR doesn't start automatically. When I start the rig, I hope I can simply select the HMD I want to use for the session. For CV1 I just put on the HMD and Oculus Home starts automatically. For Index I put on the HMD wait for Steam to auto-start and then press the StreamVR button on the Index HMD. In theory that should work... and would make me very happy.

How do you do that? I don't like that Steam games show up in Oculus Home, I would prefer them to be separate.

Just right click on any app in your desktop/library and select Hide.  Been available for a long time now.

It was nice to go back into Oculus Home, but also a sad thing. It did make me realize that the Index is a one way ticket - after having spent the last week using the Index, it's very hard coming back to the CV1. Actually it wasn't really the SDE - the SDE actually looked less pronounced than I remembered it - but the resolution of the CV1 was really bad, even forcing ss 2.0. And the fov is significantly less using the CV1 compared to the Index. The impact of reduced fov is much easier to feel coming directly from the Index.

To be fair, Beat Saber $100 Bills sounded so much better using the CV1 than the Index, CV1 tracking is awesome and Beat Saber looks great ss2.0@90fps. Defector also performed and looked better, Affected The Manor looked much better too (much better blacks) - and Lone Echo and Lone Echo 2 trailer also looked and performed better. CV1 still is an impressive HMD, but having used the Index I can't see myself using the CV1 a lot - Index really feels like having 4-5x the resolution of CV1.

Also getting both HMDs to work on one rig - keeping both connected - was more problematic after spending some time testing it thoroughly. It's possible to use the CV1 while having the Index connected, but it does have some limitations. It seems Steam needs to be closed (kept from starting), because I lost connection to the CV1 hmd if I allowed Steam to start. Might be fixed by setting Steam not to auto-launch (could also be an error associated to using my USB 3.1 Type-c port instead of a normal usb 3.0 port, I didn't investigate it further). .
Having CV1 connected did not affect my ability to start SteamVR using the Index, but one time I lost the round "Steam"-button in the Steam menu (the menu where you also have the round "Revive" button) and couldn't get access to my Steam library (I still had the round "Revive"-button though). I could select and launch Steam games and apps directly inside SteamVR Home. This may have been a random error, but it never happend before - restarting Steam fixed the problem.

Maybe an USB 3.0 hub with power switches is a better method - disconnecting the CV1 when not in use:

Would still like to use CV1 for the kids - although my 11-year-old son tried the Index yesterday and said he's not going back to the CV1... Index also comes with a very comfy cushion for small heads. Maybe I should get the above hub...
In short, when wanting to use the CV1, it's probably the best to stop Steam from auto-launching and to not start Steam at all. When using the Index it's probably best (for now - and I'm using SteamVR beta) not to have the CV1 connected, but you can just leave all sensors connected - Steam doesn't seem to care for those ;) It does make some sense - because Oculus software won't care for the Index, but Steam will care for (and supports) the CV1, so Steam may be the main problem - would be nice with a switch for multiple HMDs in Steam.

Tried the Moondust Knuckles tech demo (more like several mini-games) and it's really amazing:

Trailer showing the current version:

Trailer showing the old version:

In the Aperture Hand Lab there's a small amount of pressure sensitivity used in the Knuckles, but Moondust delivers in spades. So when you hold a stone carefully, you don't break it, but when when you squeeze it hard it turns to dust. The visual quality is awesome too in Moondust, the Index really shines - also when it comes to black levels.

Searching for Moondust in Steam turned up ... nothing. Quite weird, but for some reasons the devs want to keep it hidden and it's right here:

Wait, what USB-c connector cable did you use? Every one I tried created static or disconnects.
