Here's mine...

I'm a huge fan of The Metal but I think I'll start with some of my legendary, less angry, favorites.

Probably my favorite band of all time across all genres is Primus. I've seen them live twice, and I've seen Les Claypool live in his solo act once.

It all started with "Jerry was a Race car driver"

For those who don't know Les, fun fact: he once audition for Metallica and they denied him based solely on the fact that he is far too damn good for them.

I've seen tons of bands live (Slayer, Megadeth, Sepultura, Napalm Death, Cannibal Corpse, Korn, System of a Down, Pantera, Slipknot, Lamb of God - to name a few). But Primus is the band that showed me first hand the largest mosh pit I've ever seen, and it was to this mighty cute song:

A few thousand people went ape shit at the 1:37 mark.

I hold in high regard just about everything Claypool releases; if I had to pick a favorite song it is simply, Here Come The Bastards

Piss on Hendrix? Dafuq?

Wait... what instrument do you play, snowdog??

Usually when I meet someone who insults a legendary musician, that person doesn't actually play an instrument.

I challenge you to a Hendrix Play-Off, sir!!

Frank Zappa is the only guitarist that's ever lived that beats Hendrix to be fair.

He was also on a par with the likes of Beethoven when it comes to composing too.

There is no winning or losing with true musicianship. There is just the experience.

You better brush up on your ukulele skills, buddy. I shall defend Hendrix with my Honor! And with my Washburn Dime

Truth is I know lots of people who don't like Hendrix who are competent or even good musicians.

I grew up playing Jimi Hendrix songs - I don't get why some people don't like his music, but I find it hard not to like most music I hear.

Here in Texas we have guitar players a dime a dozen. But the Texas metal and rock scene tends to be very strict. If ever a guitar player shows up and trash talks a true legend,  I think  they are boxed up and shipped to Canada.

There are so many guitar players from Texas that I used to joke around and say that our hospitals give out guitars for each child born.

I have met guitar players that have no interest in Hendrix, but I've never met one that disliked or discredited his abilities. At least not a guitar player that can actually do anything beyond a Nirvana or Candlebox Cover.

I am probably going to get it for this - but I think the best guitarist is Jeff Beck. He is not a great writer - and has put out some questionable albums, but he also released Blow By Blow and Wired the two most accessible instrumental jazz fusion records of all time... and when he is playing with a tight band and playing music that is well written his tone and playing completely kills what Hendrix or Zappa could do.

By the way, I'm not dissing Hendrix at all. Just saying that Zappa was better! Hendrix ended up giving Zappa the guitar that he burnt on stage and Frank gave it to Dweezil in the 80s.

Dweezil Zappa is also an amazing guitarist. He does Zappa Plays Zappa shows regularly, something that has caused a rift with Ahmet and Diva because they're a couple of cunts.

Probably my favourite Dweezil video on YouTube:

Well, for me, no-one sounds like Gilmour. He's been filling my ethereal guitar tone requirements for 47 years and his tunes (in addition to those of Pink Floyd as a band) have seen me through some very dark moments in life.
