Here's mine...

I'm a huge fan of The Metal but I think I'll start with some of my legendary, less angry, favorites.

Probably my favorite band of all time across all genres is Primus. I've seen them live twice, and I've seen Les Claypool live in his solo act once.

It all started with "Jerry was a Race car driver"

For those who don't know Les, fun fact: he once audition for Metallica and they denied him based solely on the fact that he is far too damn good for them.

I've seen tons of bands live (Slayer, Megadeth, Sepultura, Napalm Death, Cannibal Corpse, Korn, System of a Down, Pantera, Slipknot, Lamb of God - to name a few). But Primus is the band that showed me first hand the largest mosh pit I've ever seen, and it was to this mighty cute song:

A few thousand people went ape shit at the 1:37 mark.

I hold in high regard just about everything Claypool releases; if I had to pick a favorite song it is simply, Here Come The Bastards

I'd also recommend Little Witch Academia as a great alternative to HP. It's by Studio Trigger (Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Darling in the Franxx, Kill la Kill, etc) so the animation is over the top. The last episode of the series is awesome.

Hmm, I can't find any Justice songs on the forum, I'd better fix that. Here's some of their more visually interesting videos.

Justice - Civilization

Justice - DVNO

Justice - New Lands

(I want this made into a full movie! It's like putting Snake Plissken in 1975's Rollerball)

At age 72, Rob Halford is still singing like a champ. Judas Priest released a new banger of a tune:

I'm so surprised I didn't share my obsession with Avenged Sevenfold's new album here! I first became a fan of theirs in 2008 and have not stopped listening to them since, huge fan as you can see below... 😅

After seven years of no original music, they finally put out what I personally think is a masterpiece of an album. They've stuck with their roots of metal, but have created a fantastic experimental mix that's very avant-garde like.

I would say Game Over, Nobody and We Love You are my top three. They've even got a 360 music video that's pretty neat for We Love You right here.

In the time of your life, live - so that in that wondrous time you shall not add to the misery and sorrow of the world, but shall smile to the infinite delight and mystery of it. P.S., I can beat you at One Piece TCG and Tekken

I saw Primus at Lollapalooza '93 at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver. They were pretty wild. I also saw Tool there, as well as Alice in Chains. So glad I got to see Layne Staley. Tool was pretty wild as well.

I then worked at the Town Pump in Vancouver between '94 and '95... it was a club on the circuit for up n' coming bands, mostly in the hard rock genre. 2 to 3 bands per night, 7 nights per week, 360-ish nights per year. Bruce Allen's office was upstairs. A buddy from chef class was the kitchen manager, so I literally begged him to hire me on a few nights per week. I already had a job cooking elsewhere, but I desperately wanted to work there, just for the music. I would have worked for free.

Tool played one night in '94... I made their fruit and veggie platters. They literally stood 15 feet from me before hitting the stage, which was about 30 feet across from the kitchen doors. First thing that caught my attention... just how tall Danny Carey was. He towered above everyone else, even the bouncers. The next thing was Maynard... grey sweat pants, no top, and he still had hair. He also had 'FISH AND CHIPS' tattooed across his shoulder blades, or at least I thought it was a tattoo. A few years later I saw video from the Santa Cruz show a few months later in November, and he was bald... with no more tattoo across his shoulder blades. So I guess it was a Jiffy marker, or a temporary tattoo. I know they played the UK before hitting the West Coast. The strange thing is though, is they already played Vancouver in May '94 at the Plaza of Nations. I can't find the date for the show at the Pump listed anywhere though, not even on Tool's own site. But I know what I saw, and what I heard... lol. It wasn't a dream.

When they hit the stage, I got so incredibly slammed, that I couldn't even break away to stick my head out the doors. But it still sounded amazing. Maynard's power screams in a small venue like that was pretty intense. But when they started playing No Quarter, every hair on my body stood up, and a wave of energy flowed from my toes to my skull. It was freaking electric! Even today, whenever I hear their version of that song, I get goosebumps, and it brings me right back to that night.

It was by far the best set I'd ever heard while working there. There's a video on YouTube from the London show in July, and he has his hair, and the FISH AND CHIPS tattoo still, so I'm guessing the Town Pump show was after Glasgow, July 27th, but before their next show in the US in Santa Fe, NM, June 16th, then a break until the Ventura, California show, November 8th. It's just so bizarre that there's no record of it on any of the concert history sites.

But the London show was basically the exact same set they played in Vancouver. Maynard goes absolutely ape, twisting and writhing like a rag doll. At one point it looked as if he's trying to impale himself with the microphone, gripping it with both hands, then viciously swinging it up and down. Then during No Quarter, he's literally running in circles at the end of it. He used to stand front and centre, and now he hides in the shadows. His stage presence was half the show.

Also, the backup band was called Peach... Justin Chancellor's band before replacing Paul D'Amour on bass. They had him come out for Sober, so I guess that was his audition. I wish Peach was at the Vancouver show as well. 😋

It's not the best sounding, as it's in a club, recorded with a camcorder, but it's Tool at their best, at least in my opinion.

I had a video suggested in my YouTube feed yesterday for a band called Broken Peach, and I'm completely hooked! They do covers, but break the songs down and make them their own, even doing a little mashup here and there. 7 members... male drums and guitars, then 4 female singers, all from Spain. The video suggested was from a Halloween special they did a few years back for their members, so the women are in some pretty wild makeup and nurse's outfits, with the men in patient outfits and mouth guards strapped to their faces like they're in some asylum. The song is Tainted Love, with a verse from Sweet Dreams mixed in with it. But the women completely steal it... their makeup and movements are absolutely insane. Especially the green haired girl 2nd from the right. Her energy and facial expressions are so intense.

I watched it on my 55" tv, and it was good. But then I fired up the YouTubeVR app in the Quest... holy freaking crap what a difference! It's like watching a 12ft wide screen. I actually saw things I missed while watching on my tv, like the 2 girls to the right drop some medical gear at the beginning of the Sweet Dreams verse. I won't say what it is, as I tried saying in a YouTube comment, but it got deleted. It's nothing bad... diabetics use them. 😋

One Way or Another from Halloween 2022. It's even funnier. 😁

By far the best Lollapalooza lineup. Ever.

A menu from the Town Pump. Just look at some of the names on there. They were before my time though.
