The Official "Books Worth Reading" Thread

I used to be an avid reader, but over time I've found it difficult to commit to the literature being released. I figure I just must be missing out on the good stuff. Use this thread to recommend the "best of the best" that you've encountered.

I've read all but the last "Game of Thrones" (Ice and Fire) books. However, my favorite series of all time is Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind. Before that, I read a ton of fantasy and horror books, but none worth really recommending. Probably my favorite Stephen King book is Needful Things.

Any other readers out there?

Yea, Swan Song was an awesome book. Almost anything by Robert McCammon is great.

Like previously mentioned, Steven King's The Dark Tower is a must ready 7 book series.

The First Law trilogy is AWESOME. It's a fairly adult themed fantasy series with some great characters.

The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfus would be my most highly recommended at this point but there is a third book planned that has no release date yet (was supposed to come out years ago) so you may be left hanging for awhile

I saw the dark tower film and I guess that has put me off reading the books, it was not great. I am reading First Law now (as mentioned) which is going swimmingly.

The movie has almost very little to do with the books (different stories) and absolutely sucked.

So it seems we have a very similar taste in literature, time for you to recommend ME some books! Lol

I justed started a duology but will be done soonish and will need something new

Well that is tricky as you have read a lot of the best ones I have also read. Especially the trilogys etc.

I have listened to a lot of others based around virtual reality and cyberpunk but they were just OK I couldn't highly recommend. Some started off well but became mediocre.

I know you have read most of Brandon Sanderson and the Bobiverse.

    Have you read these:

I liked the first Altered Carbon in the series but the rest were just good. It is great as a standalone though.

    1. Altered Carbon - Richard Morgan
    2. Neuromancer - William Ginson
    3. The Peripheral - William Gibson
    4. Snow Crash - Neal Stephenson
    5. Permutation City - Greg Egan - Deep one this though

Wow, that list could last me quite a while. I haven't read Skyward because I heard there would be more books but now I see there is a sequel out?? Is it finished? (I hate starring a series and waiting)

I'm currently looking into the others now and will pick one or two to add to my queue

I might have to do Dark Tower as an Audible. I tried reading the first book once, but for some reason the writing style made it difficult. I've loved King's other works, like Needful Things and Gerald's Game. Fabulous reads. Not sure why I struggled with Dark Tower.

I might give Dark Tower a go then after First law.

Altered Carbon and Neuromancer are my favs out of that list but I do like cyberpunk. Skywards good but no Mistborn.

Just finished first book of First law. Good depth to characters in this one, especially certain members of the inquisition :). Just waiting for my monthly credit to come available and I'll get the next one.

Don't happen to live in or near Chicago? I have a few extra copies of the 7-book Dark Tower series (been meaning to donate them) lol
