The Official "Books Worth Reading" Thread

I used to be an avid reader, but over time I've found it difficult to commit to the literature being released. I figure I just must be missing out on the good stuff. Use this thread to recommend the "best of the best" that you've encountered.

I've read all but the last "Game of Thrones" (Ice and Fire) books. However, my favorite series of all time is Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind. Before that, I read a ton of fantasy and horror books, but none worth really recommending. Probably my favorite Stephen King book is Needful Things.

Any other readers out there?

So is Illinois, but I still think we have a 0.00000000001% chance of catching it so I'm not too worried...

I might have to do Dark Tower as an Audible. I tried reading the first book once, but for some reason the writing style made it difficult. I've loved King's other works, like Needful Things and Gerald's Game. Fabulous reads. Not sure why I struggled with Dark Tower.

I understand what you mean about the first book. It's one of his first writings and it's kinda hard to get through. But starting with the second book...it's an insanely awesome ride. I mean, Roland wakes up on a beach being attacked by giant crabs and loses multiple fingers in the first 10 pages haha

I saw the dark tower film and I guess that has put me off reading the books, it was not great. I am reading First Law now (as mentioned) which is going swimmingly.

The movie has almost very little to do with the books (different stories) and absolutely sucked.

So it seems we have a very similar taste in literature, time for you to recommend ME some books! Lol

I justed started a duology but will be done soonish and will need something new

The movie unfortunately is garbage and has little to do with the books. There's no Eddy, no Suzanne...it's hogwash.

Just finished book two of First Law, really enjoyed it. Great adventure romp with very good characters, humor and the voice acting is excellent.

Just discovered a series on audible called "Bobiverse".  Going through the first book now called "We are Legion ( We are Bob )".

Love it.  Looking forward to getting the others added to my audible collection.

Yep fantastic series, I keep recommending it but I think the name puts people off. It sounds a bit like a hitchhikers guide to the galaxy type comedy but it is actually a pretty serious sci-fi trilogy.

Of course once you have read it you understand the title is completely apt. :)

How amazing would it be to be digitised with unlimited life and the universe as your playground.

I couldn't wait for the next few months.  Bought 3 more credits and grabbed them.  Onto book 2 now.  "For we are many".

Finished first law, it was good but the last book I think didn't live up to the first two. Still enjoyed it though.

Started the first book of the Dark Tower Series. My god it is not easy reading so far. Can anybody tell me if I can refund it and go to book 2? Would I be missing that much? So far it has been 2 hours of meaning less babble.

I completely agree about the First Law books. Series was awesome but the last book was just OK.
