Question

The point VORPX crossed into the darkside

http://www.roadtovr.com/2013/05/27/vorpx-creator-ralf-ostertag-speaks-to-road-to-vr-6081

But since I’m seldomly perfectly satisfied with anything I do, I started to add more and more functionality until eventually I realized that I invested too much time into the project to give it away for free. Since then it is called vorpX.

ARRRGGHH! A thousand baby kittens scream out into the dark and DIE! Our time is a gift, from the creator, why do we always feel the need to trade it to satan and his dark forces of secrets, capitalism, and control.

That, as we enjoy great advantages from the inventions of others, we should be glad of an opportunity to serve others by any invention of ours; and this we should do freely and generously.

http://www.duneinfo.com/unseen/jodorowsky/

I did not want to respect the novel, I wanted to recreate it. For me Dune did not belong to Herbert as Don Quixote did not belong to Cervantes, nor Edipo with Esquilo.

There is an artist, only one in the medium of a million other artists, which only once in his life, by a species of divine grace, receives an immortal topic, a MYTH... I say "receives" and not "creates" because the works of art its received in a state of mediumnity directly of the unconscious collective. Work exceeds the artist and to some extent, it kills it because humanity, by receiving the impact of the Myth, has a major need to erase the individual who received it and transmitted: its individual personality obstructs, stains the purity of the message which, of its base, requires to be anonymous... We know whom created the cathedral of Notre-Dame, neither the Aztec solar calendar, neither the tarot of Marseilles, nor the myth of Don Juan, etc.

One feels that Cervantes gave HIS version of Quixote - of course incomplete - and that we carry in the heart the total character... Christ belongs not to Mark, neither to Luke, neither to Matthew, nor to John... There are many other Gospels known as apocryphal books and there is as many lifes of Christ as there are believers. Each one of us has their own version of Dune, its Jessica, their Paul... I felt in enthusiastic admiration towards Herbert and at the same time in conflict (I think that the same thing occurred to him)... He obstructed me... I did not want him as a technical adviser ... I did everything to move him away from the project... I had received a version of Dune and I wanted to transmit it: the Myth was to give up the literary form and to become Image...

How a friend of the beatles, could constantly hunt down jadorowsky, and censor his ART for DECADES out of whatever pain, anger, or hate festered inside of him amazes me. I have been angry, I have felt hate, and hurt, but you have to let it go, you have to be happy for the time you were able to invest to help others, not try to profit from it! NOOO! VORPX GUY, come back to the light! Even Vader chose the love and light before he died. Give to the world, stop taking for yourself.

Forgive the sidetracking, but: Anything interesting of your's (however old and obsolete), worth checking out on Aminet? :7

That was pre-internet. You might find some of it in the Fred Fish floppy disk collection.

Earlier, on Apple-2, I released lower-cased character rendering two years before it showed up in the Apple Language Card (with UCSD pascal). I also released full-color (15-color) high-resolution graphics demos two years before they showed up in the Sticky Bears program series for the Apple-2. I and a close friend had Apple-2 serial numbers 280 and 600 (both museum pieces). I had one of the first Amiga computers in my state, the day it was released. Same with most other stuff I own (often obtained during limited test-marketing of a new product). I got one of the very first Sony Walkman portable tape recorders, when only 300 were released to all of North America (and everybody else had to carry a huge boombox on their shoulder). I could continue my list for hours, but I have better things to do. It helps to know "people", is all I'm saying. My Amiga had my own DIY hard drive controller, and my own device drivers, all designed and written by me. And WAY faster than anything that became commercially available later... Uhh... Better stop now, so I do not have to delete so much later...
    :D

Remember that this stuff was "pre-internet", so unless you can find floppy disk archives somewhere online (that somebody has bothered to organize and index), good luck with finding anything. I published under a variety of pseudonyms over the decades, and I do not even remember most of them (without taking time to think about it)... I have used "geekmaster" (on and off) for almost 20-years now, so I mostly use that these days (but I do change my avatar image). I would be hard-pressed to find my old stuff. A lot of it only exists on paper, these days, as far as I know... I had a lot of my stuff on an old 18-inch hard drive that is out in my garage. I have been tempted to hook it up to an embedded controller to see if I can suck any of my old code off of it... A lot of my EARLY stuff is on a large collection of paper tapes and audio cassettes. Even the first IBM PC that I used had a built-in cassette interface (floppy drives costing many hundreds of THOSE dollars)... I still have CORE memory. Does that date me? Enough for now...

I really cannot say too much that will identify me, and still preserve the online anonymity I try so hard to maintain. Sorry...

Geek Master, I too have travelled your path, a history of hundreds if not more of identities scattered all over the cyber world, unable to remember most of them, and generally only retaining a few of the memes that rose to the top with each. In some ways this was truly liberating and gave me freedom, in other ways it did have negatives.

http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/HumanB here was in interesting talk I just watched about how MEMORY of human minds has literally been rotted to almost nothing, since we don't NEED to reinforce that skill anymore since we have GOOG and the internet. But as you see with filterbubbles and other kinds of technology, we are literally dumbing ourselves down in ways that even Plato and Socrates argued about when writing and text took over from oral transmission of memory and information. Soon VR worlds will change things even more, reality is already becoming abstracted for so many people, another level down in that picture you posted of the recursive realities over at MTBS3D.

http://theclustermag.com/2013/05/feminism-and-other-unfulfilled-promises-of-the-text-based-internet/ Here was a fascinating article about the old TEXT internet, where gender and other identities were able to flourish with more cross pollenization than perhaps is possible today with a more VISUAL based internet. Watching that wild palms series long ago, it seems that drug technology, infused with filter bubble stuff, latched onto VR worlds, people are just transcending thier human identities in so many ways, we are really abstracting away from the primates we evolved from.

As to money, you have to stop thinking in those terms, instead look out at this world, that your ideas and work contributed too, how that helped to lift ALL the boats, and has created a society that you now enjoy along with all the rest of us. As to obsoleting people with some of your automation tech, Norbert Weiner predicted dire consequences, That 10 billion or so humans would create a planet where almost everything was done by machines and AI, and so many people would be unemployed, only being useful as consumers, having no real VALUE to offer as a producer, since most things would have already been invented/made for them. Quit your job, get on foodstamps, depend on your wife and kids for food or the local shelter, go to the library if you can't afford the elecricity, WEEV used the phone systems inside the Jail until they took that from him, start spending all your time on VR tech, add to the future, don't let the evils of capitalism be your excuse why you couldn't help the future. Mosler is terrified by this too, that so many IDLE hands are allowed to whirl about needlessly, when with a little government leadership, they could be put to use doing "something" if for nothing else to make them feel useful and keep them from descending into crime and drugs and having the police chase them which then kills an oculus employee. There are real consequences to failed policy, real valuable lives are lost.

I do remember the first satellite in space and the first man in space didn't come from capitalist USA did it?

Regarding money, SOMEBODY has to pay my (meager) bills and buy my (expensive) techno-toys. Doing it myself consumes too much of my time. I would prefer to spend ALL my time on the advancement and general public adoption of VR, and not pay any attention to artificial money. I have been told many times throughout my life that I should work in "pure research", but the opportunity never presented itself. I still have time left, and such an opportunity may arrive one day (hopefully soon). Who knows what the future will bring?

I have no problem paying for something that works, so I would ask that the VORPX project make sure they are in a position to support the games they list as supported with the release. If it is free then it is reasonable to expect issues or problems with no expectation of getting it resolved.

So make sure the price is fair, if it is too expensive we would expect a level of support and bug fixes within a reasonable amount of time. If it is $20 or less then I wouldn't have any issues if it is slapped with a disclaimer of no support, over $20 I expect a level of support.

On a side note, if you no longer want to support the 3D driver, but want it to continue to get better, Open Source the project and let the community pick up where you started. Likely the community will continue improving it.

As to this whole capitalism versus socialism discussion that seems to have popped up, I have only one word for you ... TANSTAAFL.

Errr .. maybe not just one word ... when a developer chooses to give software away for free, I congratulate them, but if they decide to sell it and do so for a fair value I also congratulate them, because at the end of the day free or fair price it is still available to me to make use of. Not everyone is in a situation where they can give their time for free, some of us have a house, kids, college educations, retirement to think about. If I can't afford the software, I don't buy it. It's not greedy to want to get something for your time, especially when instead of writing this awesome 3d game driver he could be out working a 2nd job so his kids can go to college, or even just to buy his retail Rift next year.

http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=17636 Everygamer, if your will read here, other people are saying MY idea was the launch of the rift, something erroneously attributed to Palmer (or was it just the creator transmitting through various people as Jadorowsky says - who owns the meme?) He does admit in the virtual insanity panel with abrash and carmack it was MTBS3d forums and eric howlett that was his inspiration, but as you can see, I was the actual individual who hand held him over to that data. (Not long after, Alex Howlett changed the website, killing many of the links, who knows what butterfly effect that could have had, making info go dark, if it hadn't been accessed at the time it was by me, others, and later my palmer himself? interesting - LOL!)

Everygamer, you say TANSTAAFL and it is not GREEDY to want to get something for your time. I spent years and lots of time reading and consuming tons of info, so that when Palmer showed up, he didn't have to replicate all that time and work, he admits in that first thread, he is a total HMD newbie and totally ignorant but willing to learn from the old gurus.

So what do you think, in all fairness, Palmer should offer to me for my time and my idea that was handed to him with a mere question? That has launched all of this? Carmack has said he was working on something similar to Palmer and would have developed it all without Palmer, who knows, who knows what butterfly effect of today would have been different if I hadn't shared with Palmer.

It is not a rhetorical question, how much of whatever kind of asset do you think I should reasonably and fairly expect? Since you are going against what abrash said, franklin said, and even an earlier version of Palmer himself said about open source and the free sharing of information, how much was my time worth and what should I charge for it in whatever asset the community thinks is fair and just? THe winklevoss twins in that facebook movie seemed to think they should get many tens of millions for their "idea" eh? LOL! Palmer decided to cross a threshold on this planet when he felt his TIME was valuable in regards to capitalism, now lets apply that MEME to everyone else in the CHAIN of that meme progression, to me, down to eric howlett, cyberreality possibly too, Neil for hosting the thread, ETC ETC ETC

Cyber and Palmer, something has been eating at my soul for awhile, when I stopped posting at MTBS3D, why do you guys think that happened? Did Neil tell you he had violated an NDA with paramount and I had to turn him in (because he knew I was in communications with vadim asadov and the USAF on some possible government contracts and my emails were more than likely monitored by all kinds of suits, also that I was a futures trader and heavily shorting NVDA at the time (which Neil also knew) and who knows how the SEC could have viewed Neil sending me confidential stuff from paramount, could have gotten me and him both thrown in jail, who knows) I often think Neil saw someone who he thought was either hurting or irrational because his father had just died, couldn't understand what was going on, and maybe thought I will share this confidential paramount trek stuff with a fellow trek geek and make him feel better (abrash did say to share information LOL!) but look at the reprecussions from that act. Palmer, for weeks I carried around a suitcase with the elumens schematics, a check for 10K and the iglasses HMD I was going to send to you, and I knew you had sent me your address in the MTBS3D account, but after neil banned my account, I couldn't get your address anymore and I hadn't wrote it down before then, but I didn't abandon you and Cyber because that was my intent, and its true possibly I could have contacted you on modretro or some other way, but I was emotionally blown out by the death of my dad (so sorry to hear about andrew) and then blowing up with Neil, I was at the point of nervous breakdown, already had a big blowup with the IZ3D people who if they had played thier cards right, would certainly maybe be in the position vorpx is in today relating to the rift. I had already blown up with my old highschool friend who was a key contact in the USAF administration (wife issues in his case, too much drama with her always interrupting our friendship) You guys were moderators, why didn't you look up my email address and contact me? What did Neil tell you? Did you even care that I had vanished? This has bothered me for several years, please help an old soul understand what was going on in your minds at the time. And while I still have my heart on my sleeve, Palmer, after I came back from my dads death, I did talk to you as williamepps on the chat forums at modretro a year or so later, and told you about the display conference happening in boston, and you told me you weren't going, but then you were there, why lie about it? I don't understand. Do a search on modretro for williamepps. (sigh)

If you guys can't reply, I understand

But I hope one day, you can reply, and aren't a slave to the machine, the corporations, the capitalist system, the money, the attorneys, etc etc - because it was those same forces why I had to turn Neil in, the machine itself had made a slave of me, but I hope I am free now

Geek master, be a master of your own destiny, why rely on the SYSTEM to provide you the excuse to do your best potential in this world? Do it anyways, Weev is sitting down in a hole with no sunlight or food, I bet he would be ETERNALLY GRATEFUL to have the freedom you enjoy now to do things that could better humanity, its all a matter of perspective I suppose.

I was recently on a cruise with the former director of Kennedy Space Center, james kennedy, http://www.weneedourspace.com/ Fascinating to read that yuri was not the first man in space (so who was?), (kinda relating to wether Tesla was a eunuch or not - why is that so hush hush in western histroy?) because Jim and myself and several russians on the boat were all talking about him. Arguing what was the greater achievement, man in space, or man on the moon. Anyways kennedy was a fascinating guy, he debated Neil Degrasse Tyson on wether human exploration of space was our future, Dr. Tyson argued for robots, and Kennedy argued for humans. I wish I could find that debate on youtube somewhere, but I can't.. Kennedy said he got Tyson in the end, because even though it appeared Tyson won the debate, later at lunch, they were talking about Tyson's asteroid that was named at him, and Tyson confessed he would like to go up to his asteroid and see it in Person! And Kennedy said GOTCHA! So much for robot exploration of space! LOL! There was a nasa guy on there who had done the robot arm (I believe) for one of the mars landers who had a russian wife, said she used him to get USA citizenship and threw him away like a used condom afterwards, so while many friends have told me to go to the ukraine or russia and find a mate, I think I will pass ;)

Let's see what Google has to say about Gagarin not being "The First" (or at least MY "filter bubble" results):
    "
The evidence cited to support Lost Cosmonaut theories is generally not regarded as conclusive, and several cases have been confirmed as hoaxes. ...

I saw an interview of Gagarin (on PBS Nova?) in which he confirmed that the stories were TRUE, and that he was the first to SURVIVE. Gagarin lost favor with those in power due to his public disclosures, and shortly thereafter died in a mysterious plane crash (unlikely an accident due to his vast experience as a pilot). Although it was kept secret for a long time (adding to the mystery), it was eventually OFFICIALLY blamed on pilot error (of course):
    "

The study claims Gagarin's death during a routine training flight in 1968 was caused by his panicked reaction after realising an air vent in his cockpit was open.

The official reports are questionable, but then governments are known to rewrite and sanitize their history books. The Soviet government may have martyred Gagarin to silence him and to keep his MYTH alive, in support of the advancement of their "Space Race" agenda. Our USA history books also exclude some "inconvenient" events (like the original RATIFIED by a two-thirds majority of states "thirteenth amendment" I saw published in old history books, despite its OFFICIAL claims of being a hoax).

Regarding Russian wives, we have eight years together so far, and still looking great. You cannot put all Russian women together in one category, just like JohnRambo cannot do that for American women. That that is now "officially forgotten" history here too...

EDIT: @cleverusername: I am not sure what you want me to do. I have living expenses, but I still donate a lot to the common cause. I cannot NOT work for money as long as I have to be bothered with PAYING for stuff I want. And I do not wish to join WEEV in his deep dark hole either. So, what EXACTLY do you recommend that I do?

Good stuff, thanks for that geek master, especially since the russians on the boat we were talking too were big russian space people, and they didn't seem to know anything about this. We did discuss the strange circumstances around Yuris death. Mr. Kennedy was a former pilot in the USAF himself and said Armstrong was chosen to be moon man #1 mainly on the fact in previous years how cool headed he was during crisis, like a robot with his calm and cool, and no doubt Yuri was also chosen perhaps for similar reasons.

On russian sanitation, I was reading that book "the information" by Gleick, and he was talking about all the brilliant work claude shannon and others were doing in information theory and such. Anyways some russian mathematician, a brilliant man in his own right, was reading some of shannons work, but western texts at the time were sanitized by the russian government, so he only got part of the info that shannon had published. He recognized some errors or incomplete issues, fixed them, spent years developing them, and taught them to the other russian scientists and students. Publishing in journals and such, and years later bridging the gap to the west and trying to convince shannon and others how he had built upon and improved thier work. He was dumbfounded when he realized that Shannon had already done all that work in the original western text, and how the russian government had altered that before they gave it to the russian scientist, talk about needless effort RECREATING the wheel! LOL! It was apparently some big scandal 50 years ago or so.

As to US history books, Zinn wrote "a people's history of the United states" very critical of the OFFICIAL account of US history, amy goodman over at democracynow said he was a personal hero.

I already posted over at abrash's blog all this inability to share information is a real travesty on this planet and inviting all kinds of dark forces, from palmer to carmack, to nasa and the chinese, all so silly and hurtful to the majority of people on this planet (for the masses did it matter if marconi, tesla, edison or whoever brought about the innovation?)

    http://www.oculusrift.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1904

And as Jadorowsky says, it is natural human emotion, to want to rub out the history and people involved, to take thier ideas or creation and make them our own, like Palmer rubbed me out when he was talking at the virtual insanity panel with carmack and abrash, he mentioned howlett, he mentioned MTBS3D, but he forgot martinlandau eh? ;)

I remember reading a book, the cuckoos egg, and how sad how they assassinated the hacker involved in that story.

My own dad was US military, his own government sent him into situations where he was forced to murder young children often in nam, then didn't give him the help or support he needed to treat the PTSD he had, also dropping the agent orange on him that also damaged him. He told me on his deathbed every night for the rest of his life since nam he could hear the children's skulls crushing under his ammo supply truck, I don't know how he kept it together for as long as he did, more fortitude than I have.

I am going out on a limb here, but I do not mean to belittle anyone or marginalize any suffering, lord knows I have had my own, but kevin williams and I were talking about oculus production problems relating to espionage and cyberwarfare over at oculusrift.com I can easily see where what happened to Andrew could have been a blackops operation, designed to fool the public, while taking out a competitor in this new billion dollar industry. How does his loss, not just his intellectual knowledge, but the emotional pain it now causes to other oculus employees not be something that perhaps governments looking at trade warfare not theorize and plan? The CIA can be cruel and has been, if need be. It is just one possibility in the matrix of millions of decisions trees, perhaps not so likely and was merely random, but who can ever really know all the facts of this planet Geek Master?

Another story, from my time at IBM, the autosense 16/4 token ring card was coming out, and in testing was tested with all these clones, dell, gateway, etc etc and worked wonderfully, when sent out into the market, only people with TRUE IBM computers were complaining, dumbphucks over at network engineering somehow forgot to test with thier own brand - LOL!! So the solution suggested was to emulate large portions of the hardware microchips in software, (you know the latency problems that is going to introduce) and tell all the real IBM computer owners hey we have this new driver for you that fixes everything, bwahaha! LOL! Some dumbass VP really thought that was the solution and was going to fool all the network techs at these various companies, god the stupidity never ceases to amaze.

Rambo, no doubt, proof that many men on this planet are just one bad experience away from total emotional breakdown, do you engage that with hatred, disgust, rejection and censorship? Or do as the lord suggests, embrace with love and forgiveness?

I had many russian friends in college, ukrainian, croation, serbian too, (You know the best way to double the value of a YUGO car? fill it up with a tank of gas - LOL!) last year went over to that part of the world and spent almost 6 months with many of them in their hometowns. Its not the women geek master, its the system, the state, the status of laws, your wife may be AWESOME, but lets say a divorce comes, and you get unfair treatment in the court system, then you may not feel so happy. Palmer said over at modretro he was going to marry his old highschool sweetheart, I told a friend of his to inform him to at least go to AVFM and read up on paul elam and stardusk on youtube. Just to be informed of all the horror stories of men getting crushed under an unfair tyranny based on gender.

http://www.oculusrift.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1907 Geek Master what do you feel about the social security system in the USA? How it disadvantages one gender against another enforced by the state? What does your wife think? I would value her opinion.

It has to do with POWER geekmaster, in the court systems, the woman has AWESOME power, and ultimate power corrupts ultimately. I have had so many friends that had wonderful marraiges, with the most well meaning christian wives, but the POWER that the state has given the female over the male in so many ways, can be used to do AWESOME damage in divorce. I had one highschool friend show up at my door with his 2 daughters, their momma was a crackhead, was pimping them out (at 9 and 11) to her crack dealer, they had went to DFACS in that county, the sheriff, judges, no justice. Momma was actually sleeping with the sheriff, 2 deputies, and the judge, and the DFACS people couldn't touch it, would have brought the whole city government down, so the system failed these 2 children and this man to save his kids tried to take matters in his own hands. I tried to help him and save these 2 children and some other friends got involved as well, what a fiasco, some of the most stressful times of my life. Without high level political connections and massive amounts of money, would have crashed and burned our lives. He still didn't save his kids though, the momma got them back, both at 13 and 15 they were crackheads themselves, one has a 2 year old daughter :(

As Paul Elam says, the only woman he would want, under this form of tyranny, is one that loves him enough NOT to marry him, not to bring the state into thier lives, and all the power that would ultimately tempt a human with perhaps. I have rambled enough and I am emotionally drained, thanks for always engaging and enlightening conversation though Geek Master, always a pleasure and I will try to remain a humble and attentive servant.
