Question

Without my rift for 2 nights and ahhhhhhhhhhh

My God I hope VR continues. I had to send my Rift back and for 2 nights I've missed it badly. I was just getting back into DCS World flying the A10C and getting really good at Onward. Now I'm stuck playing 2D shitty games and I just can't get into them. Even my Nvidia 3D vision is no substitute on a 27" monitor.

@cybereality - We all know you're the man, so get my replacement headset back to me a.s.a.p.

i haven't come across you yet and I was playing Onward quite a lot. I've started to get quite good at the game, but I don't appreciate some players using those riffles they've created. I would consider it cheating to use on of those when other people aren't. I just wish people would play the game like it's supposed to be played so we are all equal. You can tell a mile of people who use these riffles to gain an advantage.

So people are cheating in Onward now?  Great, if that doesn't get fixed, it'll ruin yet another online multiplayer game.

Woooowoooowooo ! Making a pvc stock to hold your controllers is not cheating lol. I don't have one and I'm holding my own and more in onward. Jizzy pants is one of the best shots in onward and he does not use a stock. It's more for immersion but it does make your controllers more stable. To call that cheating is a huge stretch of the word.

Also as dank ant pointed out. Having a stock makes it difficult to throw smokes /frags etc and makes it take longer to get your gun back up after dooing so.

@Zenbane - Please explain why you disagree? You may want to read what I wrote again because I had to edit some stuff.

The few times you and I tend to be on opposite sides of a debate there is a common theme: gamer mentality. It's not really about "right vs wrong" but more about "Philosophy A vs Philosophy B," where neither philosophy is more or less correct than the other.

    From my perspective,

Whether you are using Touch Controllers or a Tracked Real-World Object, victory is still achieved by making judgement calls. If the manufactured Rifles somehow remove judgement calls as a factor from the player, then yes perhaps that would be cheating. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Simply put: you can give the worst player a tracked Rifle and he will probably still suck.

    I could be wrong though.

Nope your spot on this time zenbane. I would put my no stock skills against anyone with a stock. ( of course if they have 500 h they will beat me with or without a stock :) )Onward is all about map knowledge, and quick reflexes. Even on downfall across the map I can kill without a stock. Where a stock does well is scoped guns but even then I never have problems on downfall. Unless I'm playing globalchem but they are just fn good at the game.

@Zenbane - With all due respect without playing the game you have no idea what I'm talking about. The target on the gun sight is harder to line up without using one of these made up devices and that puts you at a disadvantage. If the game was all about camping and getting kills that's fine because you just wait for the player to come to you and kill them no problem. The game isn't about camping all of the time though, it's about moving to an objective depending on what side you're on and you get 5 mins to complete the objective. So your constantly moving towards the enemy where reflex and getting the target lined up is vital.

@Expediter  - You are right cheating is the wrong word, but it does make aiming much easier using one of these made up devices. Just like it makes it easier when you put a red dot on your screen when playing the game PR. I can still beat some players who puts red dots on their screen in PR, but a player equal to myself would become much better then me if they did this. I think it's a shame we don't get to see everyone's skill using the same equipment, like we do in say snooker where everyone uses a snooker cue etc.

I do think the game is great still and play it a lot, but I would enjoy it more if I knew everyone was using just the touch controllers.

First of all, I'm a gun owner ( a real gun, not a toy gun) so I do believe I understand the difference between using your hands to "pretend" to shoot a gun vs actually using the real thing. I've also played multiple FPS VR games where I use my Touch controller as a handgun and a rifle.

Second, I've played plenty of FPS games with both a gamepad and a Mouse/Keyboard... and you did compare it to that, didn't you?

"I think it's like the whole xbox controller vs the mouse and keyboard debate."
    -lovethis

Yeah you did... so either you don't know what you're talking about, or you just don't know how to handle the reasoning behind my disagreement. Besides, @Expediter does play Onward and he said that my point is "spot on." You saw that response before you typed up your retort. So if another Onward player agrees with my stance, and you saw that, why would you try to argue that I have no idea what I'm talking about? That makes no sense.

You asked me to explain why I disagreed, and you don't have a real reply to that. The fact is that you called people who use stock cheaters, "I would consider it cheating to use one of those when other people aren't." From my standpoint, if you are losing to them it isn't because they are cheating, it is because you just aren't that good at the game.

@falken76 - I think it's like the whole xbox controller vs the mouse and keyboard debate. Some would say using a mouse and keyboard gives you an advantage in Xbox games. The riffles some people have created in Onward to hold the controllers in place give you an advantage, that's my opinion. It's also obvious when someone is using these unless they have arms made of steel LOL. I just tell these people to try and play the game without it when I know someones using one.

Oh, they're using a physical setup to hold the controllers and mimick a rifle?  That's not what I thought they were doing, I thought by the description they were hacking the game and using more powerful in game rifles.

@Zenbane - Well talking to people in the Onward lobbies not everyone shares Expediters opinion. I heard a few people moaning in the lobbies and they were the ones that told me about these hand made devices. It's a difference of opinion that everyone's entitled to I guess. The guys I spoke to didn't like people using them, but your right in that it's up to the players if they want to use a different device that makes aiming easier.

Some of the Guys I played with in games would stick stickers on their screens to make aiming easier because they weren't that good. You will also see that I retracted the word "cheating" and said it made aiming easier before you last posted, but you left that part out.

I do get your point about the aiming. Since the stock is keeping the controllers stationary it can be easier and quicker to get someone in your crosshairs. Of course, any other game mechanics that assume a free-roaming Touch controller will be an instant disadvantage. That is why I say that this kinda stuff is all about judgement calls. Even the advantage of Gamepad vs Mouse/Keyboard. There are some Gamepad elites out there who have become one with that damn controller; and can exploit the close-handedness of that type of peripheral, in contrast to the Mouse/Keyboard gamer. Which is probably why mouse/keyboard folks get tempted to use Macro's lol (which I do consider cheating).

My point about the judgement calls as a gamer skill revolves around those who understand both the advantages and disadvantages, and then develop abilities around them to improve their overall gameplay.

Also, I didn't mean to overlook your retraction of cheating. I noticed it a bit too late and was already committed lol

I get your point about developing skills to counter such things if that's what you meant. I guess as a gamer on the PC I should have learnt by now that players will always find ways to improve their game. I've always been someone who just picks up a game though and plays it like I feel It's meant to be played.
