Hey is there anyway to change the gender of your oculus home avatar person as my partner was messing around on my vr before i had a chance to set up my profile and made it a female and now i cannot find a way to change it to male

There is no specific gender assigned to Oculus avatars. There are some body types that look more feminine or masculine, and there are some facial features and details that can be considered traditional gender indicators, like eyes with heavier lashes, redder lips, and facial hair.

I understand the function of a moderator. My point was related to the numerous replies that there are many options such as facial features to customize an Avatar. These kind of responses completely ignore what people are complaining about. Responses like those frustrate users that's why you are addressing comments from people advocating bumping threads. While these were from Oculus support, your function while correct also frustrates users because they feel like they are not being heard or given a valid avenue to address their concern.

Well you accused Moderators of ignoring everyone, that's not quite the same as frustrating people with their responses.

If certain responses aren't to your liking, that's the nature of forums I'm afraid. Moderators are allowed to make suggestions, just the same as everyone else, provided they're within the rules... just like everyone else.

If a moderator explains that gender isn't assigned to avatars, when clearly some people thought they had been, then that's as valid a response as any other, even if you don't like it.

If moderators ignore a thread, that's generally a good sign that members are discussing things well. My responses in this thread have been about the way the forum can be misused with a reminder to follow the rules. With that in mind I suggest you return to the topic & I can go back to ignoring the thread ( in a good way 🙂 )

No read my message again and maybe you're missing the point of moderators. What they shouldn't be doing is arguing with customers, especially when they have valid points..

We're all customers including moderators... we're customers who have also volunteered to moderate to keep the forum running within the rules. If the purpose of mentioning the moderators in your post was to vent your frustration on them I suggest that's not a good idea.

Once again please return to the topic. Thanks

Agreed which is back to why is there no ability to edit your Avatar and select Male and Female body types and why is Oculus not addressing this when so many people have reported this.

    January 9, 2022

Pretty sure Oculus has already stated they chose the Avatars to be non-gender specific.  Guess in tune to 2022 or something...

Whoever said the avatars are gender neutral was mistaken. There is a switch you can toggle in the avatar screen, but its bugged. It doesnt save when switching genders.

Where is the switch, how long has it been bugged for?

Has anyone found a fix to changing the avatar?? I’m on quest 2 and I set up avatar but picked a female or non-binary character….I know this bc I have tried to edit and all the clothes are female or feminine. Can I go back and change avatar? The only videos I find are how to “edit”…. Please help

What you’re seeing in the editor is the full range of options. There are no choices you can make in the avatar creator that limit the clothing or accessories on offer. I agree, they do tend to skew female, and I can find very few that I feel represent me (the closest I’ve found to what I like is the red plaid shirt with brown cargo pants, but I would prefer some different colour choices).

Go and try it—you have exactly the same set of clothing options with every body type.

It seems to me and everyone else that the fact that all the body types look feminine and all the close look feminine there is an obvious issue. So the question is, why is this still an issue and why has Oculus not resolved this yet

Yep, clothes, facial hair, hair styles, accessories are there for everyone, regardless of head or body shape chosen. The previous incarnation of Oculus avatars was done the same way, no gender selection at all, there never has been.

The avatar style has changed a little but the same deal applies, no gender selection, as nalex said, that's the way Oculus have chosen to do it.

When avatars are overtly genderised, that can and does bring with it unwanted attention for some people unfortunately, so I'm guessing that's a big part of the decisions to have body and face shaped designed within a particular range. Clothes, hair styles and accessories make a big difference so I'm not sure why someone would have a more limited selection of clothes.

Perhaps provide a screen shot of the restricted selection so we can see what's going on? or screen shot of the gender selection button that you're seeing?

Are you sure you're talking about Oculus avatars and not avatars provided in a separate program like VRChat?

Ok you moderators need to stop arguing with people. People are not complaining about all clothes, facial hair, hair styles, accessories are there for everyone, regardless of head or body shape chosen. People are complaining about there not being distinguishable male/female body types/clothes specific to male and female avatars.

    AGAIN...

PEOPLE WANT MALE/FEMALE BODY Types with MALE/FEMALE Clothes/attributes specific to those body types.

Vintage_Shoey the moderators are answering the questions that people are asking. We're not arguing at all. We're also asking for screen shots so that we can help get to the bottom of some people's problem with what they're seeing, which is a 'gender switch' and 'female only' clothes choices.

Your question regarding gender neutrality has been answered several times, yes the body types and faces have limited range and I've explained what the reasoning may be for that.

However, 9 people in this thread have stated that there gender is set, including the original poster in their 3rd 4th 5th 6th and 7th post. 3 of those 9 people are stating that female only clothes are available.

1 person is stating that not only is gender set, but it was set after being asked for, and 1 person is saying their boobs are too big.

This is why nalex and I asked for screen shots so we can see what's going on.

So, I'd suggest you re-read this thread and the forum rules, pull your neck in a little bit and talk to people with respect, all people including moderators and choose your next words more carefully, or you'll be leaving the forum.

Actually you are arguing, I get what you are saying but if you sum up all those posts. People are complaining that all the body types and majority of accessories look feminine. They are asking for more masculine body types and clothing accessories. This is not difficult and I'm being to understand why this hasn't been addressed yet. It just seems to be either intentionally ignored or perhaps just misunderstood.

OK putting which one of us is arguing to one side (disagreement isn't necessarily arguing by the way, unless it starts to become belligerent). I agree that more body types would be good, more choice is always good and I personally think more choice will come, that's generally how things develop.

However, we're clearly summing up the posts in a different way. I listed specifically what people were asking, for a good reason, because it avoids ignoring potential problems that are adding to the confusion, which included things that we're not seeing... restricted choice of clothes based on gender choice, gender switches, being asked for gender, boobs!! and if they really are seeing those things, that also needs to be addressed, rather than being grouped together into what either of us perceive to be the issue.

So I don't think this thread can be grouped into a single issue without ignoring most of what's been posted. It seems to clearly be two issues.

One is that there are not enough body types.

Second is that there are some people (most people in this thread in fact) who are reporting that they've been asked for, or have chosen a gender, and/or restricted in what they can choose based on gender.

Anyway, I'll leave the rest of this conversation to you guys, as whatever I say, it's likely to be taken the wrong way.

I'll just remind everyone to keep things polite. Peace out.

Can we add an option to delete our current avatars? I’ve created mine to look like me, ended up choosing the wrong gender by accident and looking like a NASCAR driver in a body suit. Can you guys add the option to delete avatars?

Appreciate the link but not sure what the point of it is. If you search Gender, you come up with a whole bunch of forum topics from people requesting the same thing that go full circle and point back to here.

Of course bugs and stability issues should take priority but given how long this has taking to resolve, it's sounds more like users are being ignored. Feedback systems never give the full picture. I've talked to a lot of Quest users that are also peeved by the lack of selectable male/female body types/accessories. They don't frequent these forums or user feedback.

Have you voted on any of the Ideas section Vintage_Shoey ?

To help out a bit, there's one specifically on having more distantly male and female body selection.

I think LocoLukee has posted one about restricted clothes based on the body chosen.

Feedback systems don't give the full picture if people don't vote on them.

And people using the feedback systems probably wouldn't be overly impressed if all that was needed to get a request prioritised was to ignore the feedback system.

If any of the Ideas posts aren't what you're asking for, create one, but better to vote on one that's there if it's there so that its kudos number reflects its priority.

Hey Vintage_Shoey, you can find the "idea" thread here, please go and give it a thumbs up, unfortunately it's the only thing we can do to give this issue visibility.

Hi DragonJetKnight , i don't know if you're still getting this messages or if you still roam this forum. If you do, could you add my thread to the first post? Mostly so everyone who gets to this thread asking for the same thing can get to the actual Idea thread and maybe we can get these devs to actually listen to us.

    thanks!
