Hey everyone! I went ahead and flagged this with our internal team, so they will be continuing to work on/look into this topic.

With that being said, the best option I can really recommend at the moment would be to submit bug reports wherever you run into this so that our engineers can get more back-end information.

Bug report natively.

Bug report on PCVR.

Thank you everyone!

I did not have too many issues so far.
Yes, it happened but I only started noticing it badly since the V60 - and then only after finding this topic.
Had some time I tried to figure out how to replicate  the issues with more consistency than random.

Maybe someone can chip in here with detailed findings so we can hone in a bit better...

With all enhancements turned on, e.g. 120Hz and no battery saver I see a clear relation between how hard the headset works and how bad the artefacts are.
However, it does not seem to be directly linked to the temperature of the internals as the artefacts, at least for me, also appear during times of rather lower demand.

Then I tried the same apps and games with the battery saver enabled and the 120Hz turned off.
Did not see any issues happening - go figure.....
The only thing that still happened here was the headset dimming the screen for no reason and sometimes just going into standby mode without warning.
This never happened before and is a new issue on the V60.

It seemed to be a result of games optimised for the Quest 3 paired with the 'enhancements' Meta included in the V60 update.
Non-optimised titles seem to suffer less but once they do it is consistent until you leave the headset alone for a few hours.
Since it does not seem to be entirely heat related either I start to wonder if it could be general coding issue.
These textures for example use an awful lot of memory and the new algorithms for the reflections and such are quite GPU intense.
If Meta pushed things to the limit and went too far it could be as simple as our headsets failing to keep up with the amount of data.

So I did the unthinkable.....
A factory reset and then I used a temp account to try some demos and such.
No issues with all features active....
Had a little lunch with the headset on standby.
Came back, tries some more and I noticed some flickering here and there 😞
Was hoping it could be just a matter of too much on the headset with too many background tasks but I guess we can rule that one out.

Is there a difference between plugged and unplugged use ?
Well, with the incremental backup for the V60 that I got thanks to forgetting the update slider something did change.
Now the headset goes to 9V and 15W for the charging WHILE playing.
And for some stupid reason it also uses this mode when the headset is close to or already 100% charged.
I found this concerning as before it would drop to 5V and the current would keep going down until the trickle charge stage is reached.
Now however the 9V stay active and for some reason the headset keeps drawing around 8 to 10W while sitting on 100%.
After about an hour of this it finally drops to 5V.
Seems clear that the V60 comes with a problem calculating and showing the battery state properly.
Might explain why the darn thing shuts off without warning when the battery runs low.
During use the higher power the headset is now (again) taking from a good charger or power supply does not seem to cause any issue - not as good as with the V56 but better than with the first V60 update.
I could not see any different issues with those artefacts and blurry areas between plugged and unplugged use.

I'm also having the issue with the random white pxiel artifacts on Quest 3. Just started after v60 update but I'm only noticing mine so far when using virtual desktop to play pcvr games. V59 didn't had this issue.

I think after enabling Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling in Windows 11, the problem goes away. At least in my case. I might test more...

After some testing I still see it from time to time. Bummer…

Well, I ended up returning my headset because of this issue. The fact that it's been over a month (and multiple months before that if you took a screenshot/recording) and we're still only getting copy pasted answers from support implying the issue is on the user's end is wild. Doubtful it will ever be fixed at this point. 😒

Just bought my Quest 3 5 hours ago. Used it for about an hour. Very impressed until in various different built in apps seeing flashing white individual pixels. Tried restart, turn off 120hz, screen recording on and off, guardian changes. Everything all posts say to try. I found many threads and posts of people saying this issue was introduced with a new firmware update.

Some are saying it's a software issue. Some are saying it's a hardware overheating issue. But the most recent post in the largest thread I found recommended more people open their own threads about this to give it more attention. So here I am. Will return my unit if update doesn't fix it within a week.

I have the same issue of white and rainbow artifact flashes with my Quest 3 and its been going on for a while now. I was wondering if anyone who opted in the PTC v62 has seen this issue fixed by any chance? Please say yes :'(

I downloaded it today and it doesn't fix it - the only hope is that I made another topic this time in a PTC v62 tag so devs will look at it again and maybe fix it on the stable v62 release

Thank you for letting us know, Anonymous! Since this issue is happening when the headset is in Standalone mode, we can pinpoint that it may pertain to the headset's software specifically. With this in mind, let's focus on your headset in Standalone mode in order to best troubleshoot this issue. Could you please let us know for reference, does this issue happen right away or after longer sessions of use? And, has the product ever been dropped or neglected? Additionally, we recommend hard rebooting the headset by holding the power and volume (-) button down at the same time until the boot screen loads, then selecting the "Boot device" option. Let us know how this step works out for you!

Like in the title. There is a broad 9-page topic HERE that confirms multiple people having the same issue that appears mostly in very high CPU intensive applications, it's easiest to find the issue either in PCVR (RTX3060 Desktop VR with Snapdragon Upscaling ON + Synchronous Spacewarp ON) or by just standalone Prime Video app explained by an user HERE.

Generally the issue appears when CPU get's overloaded too much, amplified by framerate.

We suspect it's some undervolting/overclocking issue that appeared in V60, but obviously it's up to dev team to find the real reason.

Hey there, Anonymous, vissegard, and Jss4830! We'd hate for this issue to be your entrance to your new Quest 3 headset, so we absolutely want to do everything we can to help! To begin with, we'd like to make sure we have a pretty good idea of this specifics of this problem. Please clarify the following details when you get a chance:

  • Regarding previous users' posts, is this artifact issue happening when your headset is connected to a PC, as well as in Standalone mode? Or is it just in PCVR?
  • Is this issue happening in the Meta Quest Home Environment or is it happening within a specific app?
  • When did these artifacts on your display start appearing? Were they ever not present?
  • So we don't repeat any, what troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

>Regarding previous users' posts, is this artifact issue happening when your headset is connected to a PC, as well as in Standalone mode? Or is it just in PCVR?

It's in both. The more the application uses CPU the worse it gets. - for instance Virtual Desktop with Snapdragon Upscaling and Synchronous Spacewarp on (both work from Quest 3 side)

>Is this issue happening in the Meta Quest Home Environment or is it happening within a specific app?

Rarely but i think i started to see it in Quest Home Environment too.

>When did these artifacts on your display start appearing? Were they ever not present?

They started appearing after V60 update. On V59 the issue was not present.

>So we don't repeat any, what troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

For example while using Virtual Desktop, disabling options that strain VR headset negates/fixes the issue.

I can confirm this being an issue for me too.

I noticed it also natively happening in the home environment, but not as often.

I can see this issue happening mostly and really a lot of times in SKYBOX VR Video Player App, when streaming 4K movies from my local network. It is happening quite often and is also quite immersion breaking.

I have noticed this beginning happening after the v60 update, when I bought the headset which was before that update, I didnt notice any issues whatsoever.

I hope this issue will get sorted soon, it really is uncomfrotable and very noticeable.

Having the same issue.. Mainly noticing it during loading screens. I've seen it a few other times as well.. Just got my Quest Tuesday.. Noticed it and saw that many many others are having the issue.. Surely is just a software bug.. But please fix this!
