Meta Quest 2 – Unable to pair after factory reset (Outdated 2020 firmware / Invalid code)

Hello Meta Support Team,

I am reaching out regarding my Meta Quest 2 headset, which has been in storage and unused for approximately 5 years (purchased with delivery to Poland).

I recently performed a factory reset on the device. The headset is currently running original 2020/2021 firmware.

Issues encountered:

  1. The 8-character device pairing code displayed inside the headset is continuously rejected as "Invalid code" on meta.com/device.
  2. The Meta Horizon mobile app cannot detect or pair with the headset via Bluetooth due to the outdated firmware/BLE protocol.

Device and Account details:
Model: Meta Quest 2
Serial Number:  ****
Meta Account Email: ****
Country: Poland

Could you please assist me with manually updating the firmware or providing a solution to activate the device?

Best regards,
Artur ****

Unfortunately there have been no Meta support people here since 2025.. It is a user only forum. MetaStoreHelp is now not responding.

However, here is a direct email link to Meta support where hopefully they can help you. Good luck! 🤞🤞🤞🤞

    Hi arturo1972 🙂

Are you sure, you have a Quest 2?

I think, you have a Quest 1 and you are on v50 from 2021 because that's the final version the Quest 1 received. You can't update to another version.

Pairing the Quest 1 does not work on an Android phone with the current Meta Horizon version.

The easiest way is using an iphone  - maybe you can borrow one for a few minutes - on iphones the setup works without issues.

On Android phones setting up the Quest 1 only works when you use an older version of the Horizon app.

The solution in the link below decribes what you must do. Unfortunately, the link to the old version doesn't work anymore. I'll put in a link where you can download old versions.😉

Meta support doesnt't recognize my Oculus Quest (1st gen) serial number so I cannot get help. | Meta Community Forums - 1274215

The app will tell you to update - you must skip that. Unfortunately, the scaling of the (old) app doesn't fit most phone screens and the continue/skip button is not visible. If that's the case, use a tablet for the setup. Even here the button is only partially visible at the bottom, but you should be able to use it.

212.0.0.2.109 worked some time ago. I'm not sure, if it still does. You might have to try multiple ones. The number gives you at least an idea where to look🙃

If I'm wrong and you actually have a Quest 2 and want to update it with the link steve_40 provided, don't jump immediately to the current version... update the headset gradually.
