Quest 2 - Software Update Required

I have had this issue trying to pair both of my Quest 2's for the last 4 days. When you click 'try again' it just loops back to this screen.

I have tried reinstalling the app (including updating the app), using an IOS phone and using an Android phone, I have even factory reset one of the devices. Still get the below message when I try to pair this device to any phone.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Cheers

This is the issue I am having also, but I am getting unable to connect to headset not software update required.  I just can't figure out how to solve the problem.

I have tried the following:

  • Install and reinstall the oculus app
  • Switch my Bluetooth off and on
  • Set my Location
  • Set My Personal Hotspot to on.
  • Set my Oculus app to on in Mobile Data

I got past this so I thought I would share in case it helps someone else.

My scenario is that I received a factory reset headset as a replacement for my previous headset that died. When I received my replacement headset my existing controllers wouldn't connect. When I tried to connect the headset using the android app it just brought up the "Software Update Required" prompt and I got in the try again loop.

I ended up following the sideload steps outlined here: I had a factory reset and now I can’t pair my cont... - Oculus Community - 986964 (oculusvr.com).

The link above describes a controller pairing issue, but the sideload steps using adb.exe and the update zip file allowed me to update my headset so I could pair it with the android app on my phone and then take care of my controller pairing issue. ADB stands for Android Debug Bridge, which I downloaded from here: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools  This is a good YouTube video that describes the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTcM0LVGo7M

I just did it for mine and it works this way:

On your Quest:

- hold power button and volume down until logo appears

- factory reset

- hold power button and volume down until logo appears

- choose sideload update

- connect to pc

On your computer:

- install ADB Bridge

- download https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-XwU2uFh1O2MytV2w_kjhrBvoavq6kRy/view?usp=sharing

- don`t unzip it, just save it somewhere

- open console and type

- cd C:\PATH_TO_YOUR_ANDROID_FOLDER\Android\Sdk\platform-tools

- adb.exe

- adb sideload C:\PATH_TO_YOUR_ZIP

Cheers, Can

We are happy that you guys managed to find a workaround but please keep in mind guys, this does go against ToS so do it at your own discretion.

On a secondary note: Keep an eye on our main threads and we'll have some official updates/workarounds available for everyone hopefully soon.

I am not tech savvy enough to do these side loads. I’d like to just be able to do the appropriate repair. I don’t know where the “official” link is to follow the official reports and updates. Can you please advise?

Same problem here for a month now. No solutions.

A month and no update. Sounds like a weak engineering team or FB just doesn't prioritize their bugs correctly. Overall, weak execution for a company who is 'going all in' on VR
