Quest 3 lost all tracking

Brand new quest 3 just arrived, configured an everything was doing pretty well. Was just logging into a game when all tracking just stopped working, a window saying "Tracking lost" showed up, but I couldn't click anything since the controllers stopped working too, hand tracking also wasnt working. I tried cleaning up the cameras with a very soft towel, tried rebooting, resetting to factory settings, everything I could. The screen is either completely black, black with a dot or on the starting screen asking to turn on the controllers, but the screen just moves randomly and isn't following the headset movements at all. There is a white dot blinking on the left controller and they keep vibrating every few seconds.

Update
I've returned it, but before doing so I found out that the issue seems to be that little sensor on the inside of the headset, the one that sits right on the forehead. Everytime something is close enough, all tracking was just gone. When there was nothing on the sensor, I could see the tracking working when in the turn off screen at least, and could click with the controllers, but I was still completely unable to actually do anything other than turn on, turn off and factory reset the device. I'll get another one and hopefully it will be problem free, but if not I'll just wait a few months to try again. I do not believe it was sweat that broke it since it was worn for very little time, and it happened when i slightly adjusted the headset on my face. No force used or any mishandling of the product, it just stopped working. Makes me think there may have been some faulty connections or something of the sort going on in the inside of the headset.

What I did to find out that little sensor was the issue is I was removing the headset and putting it back on a few times. Eventually I just held the power button since the only other screen I could see was the turn off screen. I then noticed the tracking seems to go back so at first I thought it just wasnt built very well, but then I noticed putting my finger on the sensor caused the tracking to die. Apparently there is a way to disable that sensor trough developer tools from the oculus software on pc, but you also have to be able to access the headset's configurations. Not sure it would have helped, but I couldn't try it since I couldnt control anything.

Thanks and actually, your PS might be a relevant comment, specifically the bit about sweating a lot, as my tracking issue did occur at a particularly warm time and I my face was somewhat moist.  At the time, the thought did occur to me that the sweat/warmth might have been at least part of the cause.

Hi there and thanks for that, but I have submitted a ticket, in the hope that someone will be able to spare me having to constantly be needing to power-cycle or factory reset my headset.  Given posts elsewhere on the forum, I am not overly confident that even a factory reset will be a sufficient workaround for future failures.

It simply shouldn't be doing this and I will be needing a permanent fix, whether that be with a software update, a new, and I emphasize "new", replacement headset or some other intervention.

Thanks again.

Hi I'm having the same issues as others. Did a factory reset and its just stuck while loading with the set up music playing and controllers buzzing every 10 seconds or so.

I have the same problem.
Now I'm going to exchange the Quest 3.
I bought the Quest 3 in April and since today it no longer works.

quest 3 switched on.
Then came the tracking problem.
Sensors and cameras checked for dirt and cleaned with glasses cleaner.

Contacted support.
- Restarted the Quest => No success
- Charged the quest to 100% and restarted => no success
- Factory Rest => No success but the screen ‘lights up’ after the meta logo and the 3 charging points, is now black and the ‘music’ is playing. The controllers vibrate every few seconds, but I can't do anything.

Now I'm going to exchange the Quest 3.

That's painful to read.  Mine is currently behaving itself, but let's say I'm not overly confident that the issue won't be back and leave me in a similar position.  Only time will tell I guess.

I had opened a call with support and they had made the usual suggestions, but that call has now been closed, with the headset no longer apparently unusable.  I did ask a question though as to whether the lost tracking, in question, is to do with the position of the headset in the room and/or the position of the controllers relative to the headset.  Both seem to not be functioning when the error occurs, but I was given no answer.

I'm dealing with the same issue. Turned on the quest 3 today and had the message that tracking was lost. I did a factory reset and now the screen is just blank with sound. i can feel my controllers giving feed back bur nothing happens. been stuck here for awhile now.

I had it happen again yesterday, but switching the headset off and on, 2-3 times corrected it.   For the power cycles that didn't work, I just got a black screen, with a battery level indication for a short while and then nothing.

It's a pain, but while it's recoverable, it's probably not worth getting a refurbished replacement, that will probably behave in exactly the same manner.

I’m still waiting for return labels which I was promised over a month ago. I don’t know what’s worse. The worthless oculus 3 or their customer service. It is by far the worst product I’ve ever purchased. I’m currently looking into class action lawsuits. I have over 500 emails from customer service that are full of lies and broken promises.

I've had mine since last Christmas and I was playing blade and sorcery a little to hard and slowly fell on my bed and it's now saying that I'm on a plane 😬

You can add me to this list. Exactly the same tracking lost message after using my headset for an active game. Just over 1 month of usage. Convinced it’s sweat damage. Factory reset brims the same blank screen, music and vibrating controllers as everyone else.
