Quest 3 was stuck on finding position in room and now stuck on black screen

Hi,

I powered on my quest 3 headset and was getting a message "finding position in room" continuously so I did a factory reset and I'm now only getting a black screen after startup with some background sound.

I can see the meta horizon label and hear the startup sound when booting but then it quickly goes to a purple and blueish gray picture before going black. I have no other menu available and I've factory reset 3 times. I see other board messages with similar problems so it starting to sounds like there is no fix yet?

Thank you!

    Yup, I bought my Q3 at launch, support told me it's out of warranty so I'm *ship* out of luck. They then offered me to buy a refurbished one. Like "yeah you know how you know how we sold you a product brand new that won't last more than 1.5 years? How about buying another one but this time it's USED?!" What an abysmal disappointment. Sorry the same thing happened to you dude. Best we can do is share our story with others on reddit.

    Has anyone solved this problem?
    There are several threads on this. Did people stop commenting because the problem was fixed, or because there's no chance of success? 🤔

    This May Help, I could able to recover from Finding Position in Room and Black Screen by following this procedure . You can also follow these steps if your device is stuck on blank screen after factory reset.

    Thanks for this. Unfortunately when I was on the call with Meta Support, we did this and it didn't work. Glad to hear it worked for you!

    I've sent my headset out to fixmyoculus.com and hopefully it's not an expensive fix.

    I've been having same issue ,I've noticed if I take off the foam face bit and push a bit around the sides on the headset the problem went on and off ..I've taken off the facial surround now and then pulled the rubber around the lenses off a bit ..and all of a sudden the finding position went and it all started working again ..just had a game of population one for the first time in a few weeks and everything seemed ok ..very odd maybe it's somthing todo with the surround 🤔..not sure how ling it will continue to work for ...my faith has gone since this happend ..but fingures crossed what ever I've down has solved it for now ..or at least pointed me in a direction of where the problem is coming from ..hope you get yours sorted 👌

    Not SOLVED:

    Have the same exact problem. Meta is keeping this global issue under wraps. Not even the support teams are aware of it. Their answer is factory reset, update via the Meta update page, or  "Sorry, you're out of warranty period." It's clearly a software bug.

    Already submitted bug reports about it w screen shot and logs 2x

    Here's what I found after 1 week of troubleshooting.

    Bug seems to start after headset sits off for a while

    Mobile Meta App (Android) has problems connecting with headset to access menu and no way to 'Un-pair' and re-pair Meta mobile app and headset.

    The "Finding position in room" and black screen issue usually go hand in hand. The head unit is waiting until it has tracking before moving forward into OS on screen. It's very annoying. It's extremely annoying. I have the VERY latest OS update 5/29, (see screenshot for exact version) and the issue is still there.

    It goes away, then comes back. The last time it worked, I paired a XBox BT controller and enabled hand gesture, in case it happens again.

    When it does happen, there is a 5-second delay before freezing again. I noticed Meta AI does not seem to respond.

    Problems re-connecting to Mobile Meta App. App just says "Headset connecting"

    These symptoms might sound familiar to some.

    NOTE: Was able to recover from the Blank screen issue and get past it to the annoying "Finding position in room" ... issue..

    For me: Holding the Power Button for 30+ Seconds While plugged in allowed it to get past the blank screen at least. It intermittently comes back to hand tracking when covering up the front cameras off/on a few times.

    Even though Im certain it's not hardware (no drops or hits) the only change was an update 3 weeks ago.

    What I have tried;

    Remove and replace the facial since the one I have been using has magnets to hold the silicone facial.

    Updates to the very latest build / META wont let you downgrade "firmware" builds.

    Factory resets 5x

    The issue is there with NO software installed on a fresh OS.

    Cleared tracking/room boundary in cloud profile

    set boundary tracking rate in Quest Settings to 50hz

    Unpaired controllers

    Verified front cameras are working.

    Thought maybe either the camera's heat-up/the heat sync compound is not transferring heat anymore. (NOT the issue since it happens 'cold'

    The only conclusion is;

    META Firmware/software bug.

    Will try connecting via META Mobile App (Android) and get off the

    the Public Test Channel (PTC) for Meta Quest devices. (Can't test this / do this either because mobile app is not connecting w/ headset like it used to)

    Come on FB/META Fix this!!

    My guess is that it's marked as solved because the solution is that there is no easy / desirable solution, they haven't fixed it and probably never will.   It should ve closed rather than solved but what do I know 🤷🏾‍

    UPDATE:  The Public Test Channel update was NOT the problem. The META BUG still there.

    What a F'n Journey.. (Wasted 1 and 1/2 weeks on this crap and bought a new Quest 3 -512GB w/ Amazon warranty-this time)

    FYI:

    The Public Test Channel selection is in the cloud. After factory reset, you will still be on that , unless you manually turn it off.

    To test this (and waste more time);

    I was finally able to get my Meta Mobile app to pair/connect with the Headset. (removed / re-added Quest 3 in android mobile BT device)

    On mobile app, Settings- Advanced settings - Switched OFF [Public Test Channel]

    System downgraded OS build to 76 and rebooted. It factory erased everything after downgrading and rebooting. Involuntary.

    After it came back, it was literally stuck on the pairing controllers for the first time screen. The headset would not detect controllers.

    Manually reset controllers and took out/put in batteries.

    IF THIS HAPPENS, you have to wait until the screen times out (after a long wait), pairing with controllers. Now you can use Volume button to select an on-screen walkthrough to pair the controllers.

    Controllers FINALLY paired.

    Went through the New Headset setup and intro..

    Now it downgraded to Version 76 - And still asked to update for some reason.

    After the 76 update, it rebooting and

    STILL HAVE THE [Finding Position in room] ISSUE 😞

    META needs to take accountability/acknowledge and fix this..

    Just paid the fixmyoculus.com invoice to replace depth sensors. $130 but I paid an extra $28 for rush turnaround time. They say it's functioning normally now. Will update further when I get it back!
