[Resolved] - Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery only connects for a few seconds

Is anyone working on the Quest 3 elite battery issue?  It charges but won’t connect to the headset for more than a few seconds, meaning you cannot charge through the back port.

We’ve seen some people having trouble with their Meta Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery not being recognized by the headset or not charging. We’re happy to help look into this with anyone having trouble, and we recommend contacting our support team here so we can take a closer look.

I would say return it and wait for official response/update and then repurchase. Replacement doesn't guarantee you won't have the issue again. Multiple people report it happened on replacement units too so who knows.

Can’t return it.

My strong believe is that there is no issue with the battery but instead with the headset (hw or sw issue). My brand new Samsung 25W 10000mah battery does the same with this headset. Usually if I leave the headset on the couch and resume playing, I might have to reconnect the cable to resume charging.

I agree that there is an issue with the headset firmware resulting in external battery flakiness

but i also see posts where the external battery does not work at all no matter what troubleshooting is tried, and in those cases the battery is probably legit defective

Yes, but this isn't only the elite battery, any 3rd party head strap or even battery pack has the same issue. Mine was working fine for the first week or so, then stopped working all of a sudden. I can only charge it with a wall charger, no batteries work to charge it. I thought it may have been an update to the OS that broke it, but there have been no updates installed since I bought it.

Did your headset ever dropped to 0 battery and turned off? I am wondering if that could trigger the issue. Batteries "like" to be somehwere between 30% - 80% for a long lasting life.

I got a replacement and that also dropped to 0% and it survived it. Still for a week running as it should.

I have the ZyberVR neck power bank, and while it does play the sound of reconnecting a battery now and then, it does keep charging so far. Obviously something is off as it should never make connect/disconnect sound while plugged in, but at least it continues to work (so far).

Just got update v59, time to retest the β€œfaulty” elite strap and see if anything has changed

Got my replacement from Meta yesterday and everything is working again (for now). So in my case it seemed to be a hardware issue. My old faulty one doesn't charge for more than 5 seconds, even other USB-C devices, whereas the new one charges everything as expected. Tested both with v59 as well, no difference compared to v57.

Fingers crossed that the replacement will work longer than the 5 days the old one did and I don't have to play 'hardware lottery' and the 'Meta support game' again... 🀞

Update from my replacement: it's still good, only issue is when I leave the device off and the cable is connected, it will slowly drain the battery. Apart from that, no other issues, it can maintain the connection and extend the active lifetime of the device as I'm using it.

Yes I've been having this issue for the past week or so, after a smooth and well working experience before - I bought the Elite battery strap with my Quest 3. I will be testing the reset procedures indicated in the message from Quest support.

V59 didn’t fix anything. Elite strap now doesn’t even light up its led or show up at all in headset.

opened it up, batteries are 100%. After disconnecting the USB C daughter board and reconnecting the light now works and strap shows up briefly again but disappears. This is definitely a hardware/firmware issue with the charge controller inside the strap.

Update: My replacement unit from Amazon is still working normally after getting the v59 update. However I did have to re-plug it in to be recognized by the headset.

Needing to unplug and replug it is the first sign of the charge controller board failing.
