[Resolved] - Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery only connects for a few seconds

Is anyone working on the Quest 3 elite battery issue?  It charges but won’t connect to the headset for more than a few seconds, meaning you cannot charge through the back port.

We’ve seen some people having trouble with their Meta Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery not being recognized by the headset or not charging. We’re happy to help look into this with anyone having trouble, and we recommend contacting our support team here so we can take a closer look.

It would be interesting to know the root cause of this problem. If it is a software error in the ic chip, is the chip broken as a result, or could the chip be reset if the battery cables are disconnected from the circuit board for a while? This would mean opening the Elite Strap which cant be done without breaking clips.

Maybe someone will want to use it as just an elite strap

They still made me return mine. I can't deal with the stock strap, so I bought a cheap knockoff "elite" strap from Amazon for $30 to use while waiting for the replacement. It's actually very comfortable! It might fall apart, but hopefully I only need it for a couple of weeks.

Received my replacement today without having to return the faulty one (living in France). Works fine, fingers crossing.

Meta Quest 3 Elite

After connecting, a notification stating that the battery life has increased appears, but the connection is immediately lost. Reconnecting or holding down the strap button yields the same result. Even when inserted into the Type-C connector of my smartphone, it charges for a few seconds but quickly disconnects. A disaster.

Their is already a 77 pages forum about this topic, even the replaments they send out this week still have this issue. So good luck, we're all in the same boat with this bloody elite strap battery garbage which keeps on failing over and over. I now have two straps, both not working, and after using them also my quest 3 are having issues with charging. First headset is send back for RMA, and bought a second 1 which was working an charging fine, until I used the new replacement elite battery strap. Now my second quest 3 have charging issues, and battery strap is not charging at all.

My tip, get a replacment, keep the box sealed and sell it for the next guy and by something else for charging while playing

Mine replace elite battery strap arived yesterday. It seems to be a new device (not refurbished) dropped off by UPS in the Netherlands. Manufacturing date on box states 12.2023, so its definite the new production batch.

Sadly its just the same **bleep** all over again. Only seems to function the first couple of charges, for me it actually already stopped working properly when headset and strap became around 80% discharged.

Now the strap won't even charge anymore, unplugged it from the headset, tried all kinds of cables and different power supplies. This new replacement broke within the first day of use. So nothing is solved!!!

Contacted META once again, now waiting for email response. Is meta planning on keep sending the same dam strap over and over without fixing it? I don't event want the dam thing anymore, just refund me, and I will look else where for a different battery strap.

Unfortunately, there is still no reliable solution to the error. For my part, I have turned away from Meta accessories and am now very satisfied. I can recommend the Aubika Headstrap (which, by the way, fits perfectly with the Aubika bag). I was initially skeptical. Ultimately, I am very positively surprised and completely satisfied. The only drawback: The charge status of the headstrap is not displayed separately in the Quest software. But this is a negligible issue when you look at the current problems. In return, the strap has 4 reliable LEDs that provide feedback on the charge status. It can be turned on and off with the press of a button. It maintains a constant power supply and does not additionally charge the Quest during use (which technically would not be healthy). Last but not least: This great piece costs only half. Perhaps this tip might be a good alternative for some of you who are troubled by the original accessories, and it's at least worth considering.

Hello Olli, my Aubika is not charging my Quest 3. It appears for 3 seconds and then disappears. Any tips of what I might be doing wrong?

Hey Swan2023,

I only played for maybe a hour or so just for testing out if the replacement strap would do what it suppose to. The fact that I'm posting 5am in the morning does not suggest I've been smashing it 12 hours strait!? It result of being a parent, and my play time start past 10pm when the kids and wife are to bed. Around 1 am I was done testing the new strap and gave up coming to my conclusion this thing was not working and started a support chat with META once again. After 40 minuts waiting it was my turn for chatting to a meta employer. After at least 1 hour doing the dance of having to repeat myself to them, explaining over and over that I already tried everything, they finally come to the same conclusion.

And before anyone is going to say, "naah you should have tried much longer, in three hours you could not have tried everything to make it work", your wrong.

The strap should just work straight out of the box. Simple as that, it should just work. Its simply not recognized by the headset for longer then a couple of seconds, and after factory reset, multiple charges with usb test devices in between the usb powerplug and strap and it finally not even charge itself anymore I gave up.

I first only used the original powerplug and cable, but the orange light would not even go on on the strap. Then i started trying other cables and power supplies, some trickle charge the strap, other would only charge it for a 10 minutes or so, but I could not successfully charge the strap until the green light comes on. After many tries is doesn't do anything anymore, I get orange/green flashing lights. My headset also gave me a couple times the red light together with the warning the port is wet or debris in it,  and I'm babying my equipment, so I know that's bullocks. And now the headsets does nothing when I plug in the strap. If I connect to straps to any other device it will not charge it, there is not even a voltage spike upon connection which you should normally see. Its dead!

Received replacement (without returning original) today. Mfg date is Dec.

Seems to be working fine, but then so did my original purchase until I used it with a replacement headset, so I'd hold off saying everything is cool until this proves itself over time.

Have not had a great experience with the Quest 3 so far since launch, having had to RMA the headset for dead pixels and then the Elite Strap issue, so I'm hoping this is the new start with me for the platform.

possible the straps are not the issue but instead the headsets?
