[Resolved] - Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery only connects for a few seconds

Is anyone working on the Quest 3 elite battery issue? It charges but won’t connect to the headset for more than a few seconds, meaning you cannot charge through the back port.

Difficult to say as there's probably a fairly small sample set to support it. Coincidence most likely.

What I would say is I used the launch headset (with Elite battery) for 3 weeks before deciding to RMA the headset for a dead pixel/trapped dust. In that time, the strap performed as expected.

Within 2 days of using the brand new replacement headset, I noticed the issues with the Elite Strap. Could have been acting up immediately for all I know......could be just a coincidence. Hopefully anyway.

Serious enough for Meta to withdraw the strap from sale, but they really should have recalled the device. Who's to say any of the original batch won't develop an issue in time.

No need to recall the device as it all other battery based head straps are working fine. Only the elite one is failing. Also only currently one (possibly) new dec 2023 battery elite device has failed. I still hold out hope. Also it’s back on sale so maybe it was just a bad one or not even a newly fixed model

u cant rule out the headset jus cuz other battery straps dont have same problem (tho straps like BOBOVR make hissing noises coming from battery in use and thats not great either), it may be due to charging at different voltages that triggers the prob, for instance. most external batteries are 5V but q3 strap is higher than that

I purchased my elite+battery strap from Amazon and hoped I could just return/swap it with them until it gets fixed (or I get one that never fails), but they appear to be out-of-stock there for this reason, so I'll probably cave and swap it with Meta if nothing comes in stock on Amazon soon.

I would love to see some actual feedback from Meta on what troubleshooting any of their actual engineers have actually done. For example, I imagine there are tools one can use to troubleshoot PD negotiation to confirm or deny the issue lies there.

I have the same issue, Support is sending me a replacement strap/battery. Connects briefly, tells me it has 70%+ battery, then disconnects. Same thing happens when I plug USB-C from power adapter into the battery port, headset says it has power for a few seconds then disconnects. Plugging directly into the headset works fine.

Yeah all adds up to faulty elite battery port as expected still. These comments saying new fixed units are failing still isn’t currently true so not sure where this talk is coming from so far.

Yes, I have replaced the Elite strap with battery for my Meta 3 three separate times, I'm currently on my 4th set. I got the first one back in October of 2023 and as of yesterday the 4th Elite Strap With Battery Is FAILING AGAIN!!!!!!!. It works great for the first couple weeks then it will only connect to the head set for 3 seconds. I never had this issue with my Meta 2 and Elite strap combo. WTF META??

My seconde strap with battery (sent directrly by Meta support) failed after a few weeks. Support was very reactive this second time as well even if I contacted them on December 30: I got their message with questions on the 31st!

The Manufacture Date is 09/2023. The one before that that was 8/2023. I don't have the ones prior to those, sorry. I sent a complaint into meta on 12/31. I have not received a response yet. I think they are trying to figure out how to respond to the issue. It must have gotten out of control. My guess is the the lithium was built on the fringe of acceptable power output levels and after a few charges it drops below and acceptable detectable level voltage output level which is causing the headset communication issue.

December 23, was my new one, and fingers crossed it’s been stable so far but it’s still early days

SWAN, Let me know if it lasts more than 2 weeks. If you use the headset a lot (more than 3 hrs per day) let me know if it lasts more than a week before dropping out. Thank you in advance. Richa138

richa138 I got my replacement on the 21st and used it every day since for at least 3 hours or so, I’ve ran the strap battery down a number of times now and so far it seems to be ok and pretty stable, yep it’s still early days I know but I’ll be sure to report any new faults on this thread should any arise. Hopefully your issue and any replacement is sorted for you soon,

Just had a chat with the meta chat professional regarding the fact that my elite strap with battery for meta quest 3 is not charging and he said to charge the battery first and then try the battery in the quest. Well the battery alone only charged to 92% for 2 hours and then when i placed it back in the quest usb-c port it would not recognize it either. got mine in October 2023, guess mine is also defective. Really sux that it took 3 months to figure that out as it was working fine til 2pm today 😞

I have received the second replacement strap battery. It is manufactured 12/2023.

I'll let you know if the issue comes back but I'm optimistic.

Globally, behind the technical issue itself, I'm very satisfied of Meta support service level and speed.

Welp, add me to the list of affected users. I got one of these straps for Christmas and it was working great for the last month. Now it has the exact same problem described here.

FWIW, the issue is definitely the strap itself. If I plug the strap into my phone, the phone shows “charging” for a couple seconds, and then disconnects, pretty much the same as the Quest 3 is doing.

Mfg date on mine is 2023/07.

I guess this was purchased earlier on and put away for Christmas right? Get the ticket raised with Meta and get it replaced with the updated one, this forum has almost gone silent now after everyone has got their replacement, only 1 report of someone having problems with the newer one but even he has gone silent,

I've given up on getting this battery replaced (went through the process 3 times already). A friend suggested I get a power bank portable charger from amazon that would connect with a pigtail.

Found this one and has been working like a champ for the last month. I will never go back to the Meta Strap with Battery. Than you for all your help guys and gals.

I never got a replacement strap and still have my 1st one - just have to babysit it a little.

I did get another one once they started selling them again after the pause and it works great like it's suppose to.

The only issue I personally have with the Quest battery straps is with their tiny capacity compared to the Quest 3's need for power.

I'm going to be trying the upcoming BOBOVR S3 PRO with a 10,000 mAh battery. Only wish it was twice the capacity for the Quest 3 but at least its battery can be easily be swapped out with a second one.
