Question

v74: Quest 3 not fully charging

My Quest 3 auto-updated to V74 Build 5070966.11190.510 (PTC) on the 31st and it won't charge past 73-74%. At that percentage, the orange charging light starts to flash. This one time I woke up to the quest turned on and in the factory reset menu by itself (the one you get from holding Power + Vol down), with it overheating.

In the settings, there are no updates but whenever I restart or shut down the quest, each time it says wait while the Quest is updating for maybe 2s, which is unusual.

Things I've already tried:

1. Soft/hard reboot.

2. Different cables/chargers.

3. Unpairing and repairing the controllers (as suggested by chat support)

4. Turning off the Quest and then charging it but the same issue persists

No problem getting 100% charge on my Q3 with meta Q3 elite battery strap.  However, since non-beta v78 I seem to need to charge them separately in order to get both 100% = in the green.  I've filed a bug report on this, and so should anyone else that experiences this imho.  Cheers.

Hello, have the same problem. I’m currently experiencing new issue: the battery is not charging beyond 30–35% for some reason.

It hasn’t been long since I received a replacement Quest 3 due to a previous software issue, and now this is happening again. I’ve already tried a hard reset, but it didn’t help. I’m also using the standard charging equipment that came with the device – nothing unusual.

In addition, I’ve found several posts online describing the exact same problem, so it seems I’m not the only one affected.

I’m honestly wondering why I keep encountering problems like this with a product of this quality.

What happens if I experience another issue after the warranty period has expired? Since this is already a replacement device and the issues appear to be related to either hardware or software – and the device isn’t even two years old – will I still receive support beyond the standard warranty in such cases?

    Kind regards

so, I've been rarely used it. after about more than a month, at last I used it again this week. So I've been using it about 3 times. it updated to v78

the 1st time, it charge to 85% and stopped.

the 2nd time, it charge to full (green light).

the 3rd time (yesterday), it charge to full (green light).

I hope it's been fixed now.

so after this post, a few days after, the quest back to charging only to 75%, and been 3 times doing it.

so it seems that the problem still not fixed yet. but I havent used it as active as before anymore, so couldnt observe it too much

What version does it say in the update? I presume it's on PTC. See if you can hard power off > boot it and see if there are any updates.

I don't think they really fixed it even with the green light that I'm getting. With my rare use the battery seems to be dropping too quickly at ~20 seconds/% and that should just be ~35 minutes. I even sideloaded an app to restrict other apps from running in the background and I just see that Meta Horizon Shell is what's consuming the most power, even more than the display itself. Unsure what that entails because my quest is just at idle in passthrough. Thankfully I only pick it up to look for updates and don't really use it.

Is meta replying to this tread? I send a msg here so my Quest 3 is not charging more than 35% but no support or answer since them...

This is 100% no Hardware problem. Its a software problem and i already got a new quest 3 because of an black screen bug from software. Is meta trolling his costumers oder scamming them with breaking the headsets so they have to buy a new one?

Hey guys. After a whole 6 months I'm finally seeing a green light after getting the PTC update: v79.1030 Build 5115411.9220.520.

Next I'll hard power off and boot it then fully drain the battery and charge it back up to a 100% to see if it's consistent.

Thank you everyone here for coming to my Ted Talk 🔥🔥💯

Please let me know if you'd like me to keep this thread open regardless or mark it as solved.

Keep this Thread open for them who still have this problem. I returned my Meta Quest 3. My Quest 3 was still in warranty time and i had 2 times a patch who break my device, so i returned now.

For me, the problem was resolved after I installed the v79 PTC update (51154110092200520, 79.0.0.855.506.759463308). Multiple charging attempts from ~50% were successful – the device charged to 100% and showed a green light.

How quickly is your percentage dropping at idle? For me with just meta window open in passthrough is giving me 20 seconds per percentage. So I think the green light is a bandaid and they haven't fixed anything fr

The battery drains very quickly from 100% to 60%. Literally in 30 minutes without any running applications. Either the fix consisted in tweaking the interpretation of battery voltage values by the system, or they actually fixed the original problem, but added a bug with battery drain, or it became even more noticeable.

I have a feeling that the battery drain was there before, the headset lost its 75% charge quite quickly too.

Also, just on the main screen with passthrough, the cooler works quite loudly, so perhaps the problem is no longer in the battery, but something in the background is loading the CPU

For the past 3-4 months, I haven't been able to charge my Quest 3. It gets to 40%, then drains again and won't charge. I'm in the v79 update rn but it still continues.

I just see that my power frequency settings at Auto mode and I select as 50 Hz which in my country. Maybe this would solve.

been 2 months since last post in this forum. has everybody's quest 3 healthy again ? or u guys have accepted this thing as quest 3's feature ? lol

at last after along time, I got v79 update. dont know why it took so long and every update I got before always v78 (only like v78.01, 78.02, or something like that).
after v79, it seems to fix it as I could charge to 100% for 2 times. I didnt play much anymore, only like once or twice a week, so I havent got plenty of chance to test it. But yesterday, after charging it for 3 hours, it only go to 79% when I checked. then I let it for another 2 hours, and checked again, it went down to 77% instead. so it seems the problem still not fix.

to top it off, my sadico strap's battery died. so I bought bobovr strap with battery. it's now a necessary to play with quest 3, or I could only play at most 1 hour with this stu*** feature from meta.
