Question

V78.1028 failed to install on Quest 3s

V78.1028 has appeared on my Quest 3s today. However after 3 attempts to install it,where it says successfully installed and restart, the update still appears asking to be installed. Anyone else have this issue ? Is it a general problem?

Yea, its annoying when we all spend hard earned money for a product we all can enjoy only to find out, its support services doesnt live up to the money we spend on them and/or our expectations. I went and purchased the XBOX edition and that model, doesn't or compatiable with any upgrade success, it fails which ever way I try, another thing when im using it, ofren it says not enough memory and either knocks me out of game or reboots itself. And what up with the battery life, seams the more I use it the shorter the battery life, wonder how or what is the life cycle of the battery, guess another way for them to squezze money out for the end users. Dont mean to bad mouth or throw negative KARMA, just want to enjoy and expect high quality and service from them!!

Noticed something strange in my Navigator menu since the last failed v78.1030 update, my settings icon is cut off at the bottom and my pass-through icon is grayed out and doesn't work.  I can still access pass-through double tapping and pressing the button. Device is working perfectly but it seems that they fix something and then break it again with the next update.

Have you tried a hard power-off via the shut-down menu?

PS: should double-pressing the Meta button on the right controller activate pass-through while in the Universal Menu (I don't have Navigator, but I'm also on v78.1030 aka 78.1027)? I've just noticed that that method is no longer working and a hard-power-off didn't fix it 🙎‍♂️.

What is the point of the update method using a link cable and chrome when it installs the same version which you are on!

I guess it is similar to reinstalling software on a PC in "safe mode" rather than from a regular boot-up with all the drivers running and potentially causing conflicts?

So I got the option of updating to v78.1031 but noticed it still has the same build number as v78.1027 (and every update in between), 5105226.11950.520. After updating and restarting, nothing seems to have changed, except it's now saying "Up to date".

The build numbers being the same strikes me as odd, as to my knowledge each version of a software should also have a unique build number.

I tried using Meta Quest Software Update Tool when I had the option of updating to v78.1029, but it didn't work then.

Edit: And neither did it now.

Exact same thing with me v78.1031 installs but after the installation it doesn't say v78.1031 says the same update I had in the first place, v78.1027.

I've never seen a mess like this regarding updating any piece of software or hardware. More frusrating as all this comes when you're expecting Meta's new UI which I havn't been able to get yet as I'm stuck in this update loop of updating and nothing happens at all.

I tried with the software update tool as well and nearly bricked my headset, so not doing that again.

They really need to get a handle on all this -- makes you want to leave this entire platform and find a comany with VR hardare that's more reliable!

Ya, same here mate, I always end up with my Q3 at non-ptc v78.1027.  I only select critical updates btw, so just manually check for updates.  Nor have I bothered trying a factory reset or the meta update tool.

Main thing is that my Q3/512Gb continues to work well with standalone and PCVR with Link and Air Link.  My only issue is that my Q3 headset battery seems to be draining a lot faster and also doesn't charge together properly with my Q3 Elite battery strap.  I have filed a bug report on this.

Hopefully this will get resolved with non-ptc v79.  Cheers.

So, a friend comes over with his new Quest 3S yesterday (Aug 15) he doesn't have an proper cell phone (he's old school) so I paired and activated his Quest 3S for him on mine.

So... no issues at all, in fact -- I was able to download I believe V79 or a version of V78 that was the latest, no update loops, all good -- and on launch, what do I see -- his 3S HAS NAVIGATOR and the new interface on it, which I've been waiting for months because I can't stand the UI included with my Q3.

So, he goes home a happy camper -- I then on the spot am so pissed he's go the new interface, I decide to finally do a factory reset of my own Quest 3

 And, drum roll ..........

.... I could only update to V78, no V79 and absolutely NO NEW NAVIGATOR or new UI.

Does any of this make any sense at all ?????

It's very chaotic. Just today, 2 months later, it tried to install again and failed despite it saying it was successful and I'm still on v78.0. I was on v78.1026 and factory reset then v78.0 appeared. I also got Navigator after the reset. I have noticed some very small changes after the update even though it isn't showing as updated such as my settings icon which was cut off at the bottom going back to normal and getting some colour on the library icon. I also have friends around me where they have higher versions of v78 and some with v79 and no Navigator too. It's very confusing. I understand your frustration.

My Quest 3 hasn't updated in months and is stuck on 78.1028 like others.  It does work just fine but this update process, and not really knowing where you stand, is pretty annoying.

Last week my Q3, updated to V79.1027. It did install this time, no loop. So hopefully it comes to you soon!

I've been on 78.1028 since mid June, with it attempting to install 78.1030 etc and never succeeding. My PC Link App has just updated to 79.0.0.1143.381, so the stable must be available. Just booted up my Quest 3 and still shows "you're up to date". What gives with this? I've been patient until now but if the update is broken as suggested, how will v79.0 get pushed, feels like we're stuck on v78. I've read about this for months on Reddit, on here etc and still no real answer to the problem. Smh.

Headset usually updates within a week of the PC and phone apps updating.
