Question

V78.1028 failed to install on Quest 3s

V78.1028 has appeared on my Quest 3s today. However after 3 attempts to install it,where it says successfully installed and restart, the update still appears asking to be installed. Anyone else have this issue ? Is it a general problem?

They changed something, no need to do anything special.   Just wait until you are offered V78.1028 that is 105MB in size.  That's the good one , install and reboot problem fixed.    V78.1028 that is 165MB is the bad update

Finally fixed

And now... automatic updates = disabled, of course. No more updates without reviewing Internet first.

How did you fix? And was your passthrough messed up? My passthrough is super shrunk looking.

Normal update as the rest of the people here. If the size of the update is 105MB and not 165MB you can update normally. After rebooting the update menu shows "Up to date". No more pending update loop.

I had no problems with the passthrough in my Quest 3, sorry mate.

Verify that the size of the update is 105MB. If not, it's broken.

You have to do nothing, just wait an update of 105MB

I wouldn't put it past Meta to having trashed the update process in v78.1027 so that updates can no longer be installed.

My headset attempted to install v78.1030 again today with it not installing. It also changed my Meta AI voice selection. After a few tries the select my preferred AI voice the selection Edit button greyed out.

Same here, v78.1030 failed to install and I'm still on v78.0. The 1030 update just disappeared afterwards. However I had a dead meta store and settings button and they are both active now. It's a mystery. The AI voice on mine is still the same. It's crazy how every device seems to act differently.. Advice pops up to use the Meta Quest Software Update option with the PC, but that does nothing, just brings you back to v78.0.

Happening on Meta Quest 3 as well. V78.1028 previously but recently V78.1030 105mb showed up for me. Installed and restarted. Now says up to date but still shows as running  78.0 which is what it factory restored with.

I have tried all different ways to update my Quest S3 Xbox edition, but have not succed, when trying to do it with the usb c cable it connects then it says my Xbox is not compatible. I thought the only difference was cosmetics, having the Xbox theme/design, the main chip and software is the same as the S3 version. W

Wonder what else is different; connectivity, performance, battery life, etc.

i recently had a boot, cold power issue, it wouldn't take a charge even though the battery cycle says it charging. Try different cables and even had it connected to a power pack.

i finally got to the boot menu and once again, had to start from scratch. There's got to be a better support system for a great product that we all paid high price. We want TCOO (total cost of ownership)!

meta said to "wait until v79" and that it wouldnt effect the performance until than, its a copy paste answer so they dont tell u when v79 is going to come out,

from what i read it seems that versions usually come out couple of weeks after ptc and v79 ptc just came out so yeah... going to take a bit more time until we will get the fix.

The v79 PTC software has been out for at least 2 weeks now. But I won't be game to install the official v79 release until I see posts from other users confirming that it installs correctly and doesn't cause further issues with their headsets. Until then, I will keep monitoring these forums. At least it's good to hear that Meta are working on the issue.

PTC as in Public TEST Channel

It's called like this for a reason. It's for TESTING.  If don't want any issues, stay clear of PTC.

I can chime in and say that I have this problem as well. I'm on V78.1027. I've both seen that I can update to 1028 and 1030 on my Quest Pro. Both times the download bar shot up to roughly 80% or something and just gotten stuck forever. After a long time I've restarted the headset. But this has just resulted in my headset saying that I'm fully up to date on 1027 with nothing new to update to.

Hi Badanka Explorer , I'm the original poster of the problem. After many trials and tribulations and dealings with support I eventually factory reset and it went back to v78.0 with no repeated requests to install the uninstallable updates. Everything is stable now, so I've turned off auto update. I think v79 is coming in a few weeks but I will wait to hear reports that it's ok before installing it.  I'm glad I stayed away from PTC,  it's far too risky given that even the tested updates can cause problems occasionally.

Funny that this is happening across multiple platforms.  I grabbed my Quest 2 running v74.  I updated it to v78.1027 and after restart said it was running v78.1027 and v78.1030 was available.  Installed and restarted.  Says running latest version, but version running is v78.1027.  So my Quest 2 is supposedly running v78.1027 and my Quest 3 is running v78.0.  It's possible that they are both running v78.1030 since they installed, but not quite sure.

In any case, I don't seem to have any issues.

It would be nice to see bugs posted for present-in versions and fixed-in versions...
Is it possible to sideload v78.1027 on my Quest 3?  The MetaQuest Software Update Tool doesn't do it.  That's what it was running before factory reset.

Thanks for reaching out. This was an old post but the issue is improved.  Software Update tool didn't work , but I did a factory reset that brought it back to v78.0 and it's fine and stable. The icons for store and settings didn't work but that is fixed too. Everything is working fine and Extra bonus: Navigator appeared too! 😊I'm not getting any update notifications for uninstallable versions so everything is ok. I'll just wait for v79 which I suppose will be next.

My quest 3 said a new firmware is available. V78.1031
I couldn’t install v78.1028 so hopefully this one will work.
Tried it.
Failed to installπŸ™„
Bloody pathetic. When will Meta get their act together! I also tried with the cable and chrome. No go. I also did a factory reset and firmware update. Nope. πŸ˜₯

It's very confusing.  I'm on V78.0 as I factory reset after constant attempts to update v78.1026 (if I remember correctly ). A couple of weeks ago I got notified to update to v78.1030, it looked installed but I was still on v78.0 after restart. Today the same update appears and looks like it gets stuck at around 90% but going out of the update page and trying again, says installed and restart the device. After restarting, guess what, says All Up to Date .....but I'm still on v78.0 ! I'm not bothered as everything is working fine and have Navigator with no issues but their updates are totally chaotic. It's a joke at the moment.

V78.1031 just installed on my Quest 2 this morning. The update notice said v78.1030 was available. Non-PTC.

Was the update progress bar still messed up, and what version number does your headset now show after the update?
