Question

V78.1028 failed to install on Quest 3s

V78.1028 has appeared on my Quest 3s today. However after 3 attempts to install it,where it says successfully installed and restart, the update still appears asking to be installed. Anyone else have this issue ? Is it a general problem?

Another Quest 3 512GB with the same problem here (bought last week 🤦)

Bug reported through the device and waiting.

It will be my last Meta hardware for sure. This is not acceptable at all in an almost 600€ device.

Instead of writing some people that they should DM you - you should analyse the problem with this version - many people send u bug reports over the device. And the problem exists multiple days now....

Same issue on MQ3S. Why do they keep doing this to us? Same story over and over again. Not a good “look” if they want us to ever buy anything again like the chunky glasses.

How can they eff-up so bad an update like this. I’m having the same issue with a meta quest 2.

There is a glitch in which the image like skips around. I was hoping the update would fix that, but after trying like 5 times I gave up.

im debating whether to do a factory reset.

A factory reset won't fix it , it's on their end

I just got a new meta quest 3 and it is running the same issue. I hope it gets solved soon as It does not let me run an older version.

I have the same issue.  v78.1028 shows up, downloads, installs, but does not activate after restart.  I was on v78.1027 and decided to try to force the update.  Then opened a support case.  Had me factory reset, and I am now on v78.0.  Forcing using the browser update tool only offers v78.0.  Opened another support case and recommending an RMA.  I'm going to wait to see if the next update fixes this.

RMA won‘t help. You will get a new one having the same issue. This is caused by the update process and not a hardware defect. Just wait for the next update. There is nothing else you can do. The Quest is still working 😉

Same here, from 78.1028 to 78.1028... No Navigator, no solution... Shame, meta...

Now that you mention it I have noticed the warped image on passthrough on V78.0 though it disappears after a few seconds on mine. Everything else is working ok for me except the update failing.

Meta we need you to pull this update and fix I k ow someone who can’t even play online because of this problem and for people who spent money on these devices and can’t play online well, that’s just crazy

How can this non-update in itself stop you from playing online..?

At this point I just stop trying to update, it is not going to work. I just leave it as it is on both of my Quest 3 headsets. It is doing nothing that requires interaction.

Just forget and move on, in time it will be resolved.

Both of my headsets are still working fine.

Speak for yourself. Not only will this update not go through but my headset will no longer hold a proper charge and/or drains fast because of a borked update. It was fine a month ago and has been for years up until now.  I'm not the only one either. So all together yes my headset works but because of these careless updates Meta has managed to f things all up and I'm ticked.

Quest 3, same here

i tried everything so far:

  • sideload from PC
  • normal update via Quest 3
  • hard power down
  • normal reset

Nothing works. After sideloading it, it tells me, the update was successfull, but when restarting the Quest 3 it tells me once more, that an update to v78.1028 is available.

... rinse and repeat ...

The only interesting thing is, that the built number for v78.1027 and v78.1028 are identical:

5105226.11950.520

i suppose, that's the culprit.

Contacting Meta support is useless, you'll only receive the automatically AI constructed Blabla answers, instead that they count together all the tickets, ppl most have opened by now and admitting that they screwed up.....

At least my Quest 3 is still working fine. So to all: Disable autoupdate and wait untill Meta comes forward with another (working) software update version......

True enough, it's how we should think personally, no point in getting stressed. However we need to keep up serious pressure on Meta. It will get even worse if they have an easy ride.

Same here with Q3... same build, v78.1028 over and over again... stays at v78.1027.
And the most annoying: after such an update, restart, logo, reset, logo, "online".

What's up with you devs?
Anyone out there?

Same with Q2... but at build 5163765.9120.150 and v78.1026... gotcha!

I noticed the build numbers on my Quest 2 displayed in settings for v78.1028 and v78.1027 are the same!

Could that be the problem? The installer checks the build numbers and decides not to install based on that. Given Meta's track record of lack of Quality Assurance it could well be.

I don’t believe the build code has to due with the sub version.  The build code on mine was the same for v78.0, v78.1027, and v78.1028.  I’ve also saw people post their build codes being different for the same software version.  In the same sense the build code could prevent the software from activating but I don’t know what they base the build code on.
