Hey everyone! The engineering team has been reading feedback and doing some testing on this topic. We've found that the most common cause of any passthrough noise or unexpected quality is due to the amount of lighting in the room. To get the best experience with passthrough, check out our article here.

The team is still interested in everyone's feedback and will continue to analyze passthrough performance.

Same issue here, can't read nothing on my phone or on my PC. I tried also everything with the light, it looks like there is a foil (plastic) on the cameras, but it isn't. Everything else looks good.

I think I will bring it back and try another one. I see in a video that some people have this problem an other have a cristal clear passthrough, hope that the next one is one of them

I am living in Europe and have same issue with very grainy and noisy passthrough ! Nothing even close of what i have seen on most of the reviews before i buy my Quest 3! My room is about 18m2 and i am using about 3000 lumens in total for lighting . The quality is just OK only if you look the objects really close up about 30cm or less -  otherwise the video quality is very bad ... I just wonder if this is some kind software problem after update or i become to afraid there are different passthrough cameras that been used for different Q3 unit series ... And if this is right then i could say this is really big fraud from Meta ... I just dont want to believe so hope this will be fixed VERY soon ....

Hello. I am also from Europe and have the same issue. The passthrough is very grainy. It is difficult to describe, it's kind of flickering and shimmering constantly. It's not only not sharp but fuzzy. I assume that everybody experience or rather sees the same thing and that it is just normal and the way it is with the 4MP cameras, but I am just not sure. I think I have to send mine back and order another one just to see if that's how it really is. It would be great if meta or anybody that thinks theirs look great could agree that there is still this subtle flickering. Interestingly, I have no issues with warping whatsoever. In all the videos I saw the passthrough was cristal clear but there was warping. I don't have barely any warping. Is this a software issue? Will it get better? I just wanna know it this is "normal" or if I have a faulty unit. By the way I testet in in different lighting conditions. It true that in bright sunlight the passthrough looks better, but that shimmering ist not going away regardless the lighting conditions, even outsides. It would be great if meta could make some kind of announcement that this subtle flickering is just normal. I know everyone feels different about this, but even the people who find this acceptable could agree that it's there. For me it is almost unusable for augmented reality apps.

Meta, what is going on?

Is anyone else experiening jittery image or screen tearing when moving in passthrough mode? I'm not sure but I think it might have started after the last update or I didn't see it because I'm still fascinated (lol)

Anyone else having this "issue"?

Would be great if anyone could check and let me know if this is normal.

Seems like you have warm lights on. You need daylight or LED light for the best results. You guys expected to much, there is no way to get it better. You can only change the recording quality, thats why the Youtube Videos are way better.

I have daylight LED,s, it is pretty bright at my place, also Meta made it a big selling  point when advertised, the presentation of MR was deceiving as that is all we had to go on, there was no explanation on how that clear image was achieved, we saw the MR image and was impressed, , it is not about high expectations, it is about advertising a product and we didn't get the product as advertised

What I gathered is, the camera is not focusing on all items. The focal point is just at a precise point. Things in that focal point under bright light are rendered better than things that are out of focus. So some sort of eye tracking is needed to automatically switch camera focus. Or future software needs to allow hand tracking to choose focus which still won’t be a natural experience. Basically this hardware is also a stepping stone for the taste of real MR.

It is just poor quality control with no consistency. I have had two Quest 3 units and one of them had good passthrough quality and the other was pure garbage. The first one I could read the text on my phone and PC monitor and on the second one it was just a blurry mess. This is in the EXACT same room and conditions so don't tell me it was the lighting.

if you say right, then it's a shame and Meta should really address the issue by an official recall accepting a collectif RMA for all of those ''defectives'' passthrough cams.

However I can't believe we all have hardware issues and hope an update will fix it soon.   It could be interesting to know the concerned batch. My quest3 was made in July 2023 (see in the box Mfg. date)

Having too a very very flickery passthrough despite the lightning conditions. It's pretty much the same in dim lightning or natural sun light blasting through windows to the room. Firmware seems to be up-to-date.

The box says Mfg date to be August 23 if that matters to narrow the issue down.

My is also made in August 23.

Hello, I am also seeing grainy passthrough, regardless of lighting conditions. The level of grain is mostly consistent, both in a darker room environment and outdoors with lots of sun.

I read some folks' account that this is possibly due to a low-power mode bug. As reported, when the Quest gets low on battery, the passthrough quality worsens to save battery life, but the quality does not improve when the headset is charged up again and is instead latched.

I have tried factory-resetting my device and it did not change the passthrough quality, so maybe this is an urban legend. I have seen several people experience passthrough quality worsening from the original quality when first booting up their headset, and I think I may have experienced the same, but I can't be sure...

The manufacture date is shown as Sept. 2023.

Hoping for a fix to bring the passthrough more in-line with the pre-release demos!

Grainy, blurry, unable to read my (large screen) phone on mine either. Also start to get a headache seconds after trying to look at anything in the passthrough. Manufacturing date 2023/09. Looking forward to learning what's actually going on here. IE, is this a hardware / defect issue or software bug.  Paid 650 for the larger size. Thanks!
