Meta Quest Remote Desktop won´t start on Windows 11 Pro

Dear Community,
I have a problem running Meta Quest Remote Desktop on Windows 11 Pro 23H2 (Build 22631.4037).

Installation with Meta Quest Remote Desktop Setup.msi (Version from 13.8.24) works fine and shows no errors.
However, when Opening the App Meta Quest Remote Desktop nothing happens and in the task manager MQRDCrashpadHandler is shown for 1-2 seconds.

How can I install the Meta Quest Remote Desktop App on my machine. Happy to collect further data to solve the
problem.

Thanks in advance,

Tobias

Could get the App to Start by removing the "Meta Virtual Monitor" Device in Windows Device Manager. After removing that device the App started and could be configured and run correctly. The "Meta Virtual Monitor" got re-installed too...

Hi there, Tobias. Thanks for reaching out!

There's a few simpler options we would first like to suggest before trying to run the app again:

1. Restart the PC

2. Run the application as administrator

3. Disable firewall

4. Uninstall and re-install the application itself

Also, there's a small chance the application may not be compatible with the screen resolution of your monitor. If applicable to you, we suggest trying a lower resolution of 1080p before opening again.

If you've attempted some or all of the above, please keep us in the loop if any of these fix the issue.

Hey,

Thanks for the quick reply.

1. Restart the PC - done. No difference.

2. Run the application as administrator - also done. No difference.

3. Disable firewall - done. No difference. Also disabled all Windows App Security settings.

4. Uninstall and re-install the application itself - Tried that, no difference.

Found that the Crash Handler is writing a Log/Dump (.dmp) to AppData.

I can provide it if needed.

The resolution of my screen is 1080p by Default...

Thanks for your support...

Having the same problem in my Desktop.

Tried removing "Meta Virtual Monitor" upon restart, it doesn't start and Virtual Monitor in Device Manager doesn't come back. I have taken a look at all firewalls, and I don't see anything of of the ordinary.

I have a laptop, and it works perfectly on the laptop, just not the desktop.

Both computers are running Win10.

Any ideas?

I have the same problem, I try to install Meta Quest Remote Desktop Setup.msi and it seems to be installing everything correctly but suddenly it cuts off and stops without any error message or anything, it seems like it has already been installed, but when I check the installed programs it does not appear as installed.

And checking the device manager I see that there is an unknown device that could not be installed and I assume it is the Meta virtual screen.

My configuration is Windows 11 pro in Spanish, deactivated the antivirus and the firewall, I don't know what other information I could give to help me

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing the same issue with Meta Quest Remote Desktop not starting on Windows 11 Pro. I tried uninstalling the 'Meta Virtual Monitor' device in Windows Device Manager as suggested, but unfortunately, it didn’t resolve the problem for me. Has anyone else found a working solution or fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share the solution to my issue. After several attempts, I found out that the problem was caused by a special character in my Windows username. My user path looked like this: C:\Users\the problem, which had an " ï " in the name. After creating a new user without special characters, the Meta Quest Remote Desktop app started working properly.

If your username contains special characters, I recommend trying this solution.

Hello Qisou. I have exactly the same issue with some special characters in my username. I installed the app on another accounbt and it worked perfectly. My main problem is that I can't change my Windows username because it's my work account. I'm still wiating the solution from the Meta Quest support.

Same for me. (Mini PC, Win 11 pro, username with "á" and "Å¡") But idk, I changed my username in PC and also I changed username in my MS account. Still doesnt work. Instead on my old PC it works good with Win 10 and some random username.

Edit: After last Windows update, it is finaly working. Playing games this way is kinda lagging so far. I bought externat USB Wifi adapter with hotspot. I hope it is gonna be better

Edit: Even with hotspot game is laggy or maybe Im doing something wrong

I have the same problem and I got in touch with support.

I've tried reinstalling and nothing changes... so I guess I'll have to wait for the next update of Remote Desktop..

This is what they said :

Firstly it seems your install of the application may be corrupt, please see this error note:

"[Service_2024-10-03_12.55.52.txt] 03/10 12:57:53.000 [Registry] Failed to open Oculus configuration registry key, install potentially corrupt."

It may also seem that it could be related to a bug in our most recent update:

"[Service_2024-10-03_12.55.52.txt] 03/10 12:58:42.738 [uaui/Server.cpp] UAUI connection failed with kj\async.c++:139: failed: Shutting down
[Service_2024-10-03_12.55.52.txt] 03/10 12:58:45.653 [IpcRouter] Command /bug_reporter/get_bug_info caused an error: OVR54112166"

I would recommend filling out a bug report through the applications developers.

I have also discovered you are missing the following Oculus driver:
"oculusudsvr"

To get this driver please reinstall the Oculus application on your computer.

Didn't help. The following message keeps looping:

A new version of Meta Quest Remote Desktop Server is available!

Meta Quest Remote Desktop Server 6.0.0.3.112 is now

available (you have 3.20.0.0.105). Would you like to

download it now?

I say yes and agree, and it just loops. I have tried everything, including updating headset, removing virtual monitor and about 100 different other things. This is a BAD JOKE!

I've talked to them twice. I've had first day CSR's that gave better support And customer service. They both are either playing stupid to avoid work or really are clueless. And NO customer service skills at all. Hopefully they'll escalate to someone with half a clue.

Hey there, Charlez199 ðŸ‘‹

Have you tried the previously mentioned solution posted by tobias.kutning involving removing the "Meta Virtual Monitor" Device in Windows Device Manager?

For everyone still experiencing this issue that hasn't found a solution, I can look at getting it raised with the engineers ðŸ›

I can see on the store page it has listed compatibility for Windows 10 and 11 but it has no mention of Pro. It is possible that Pro may not be fully supported/patched for but I'll leave that to the Meta tech overlords to confirm ðŸ§

For anyone who wants their details forwarded on, please confirm:

  • A short summary of your specific issue with Virtual Desktop on Windows 11 Pro:
  • Software Version Meta Quest Mobile App:
  • Software Version Meta Quest Headset:
  • Headset Firmware:
  • Virtual Desktop Version Number:
  • Any workarounds you've discovered:

When I have collected enough details from folks in this thread experiencing this issue, I'll forward this on to the engineers to look into 👀

Yea. All was working fine until I upgraded to W11 pro

Update. I have two PC's with W11 pro. The other installed fine. So going to compare the two to see if I can find the problem.
