New Meta Quest 3 freezes and glitches after a few seconds when using Meta Link

  1. Version number of software: I'm using the latest version of Meta Quest Link as of today (19th May 2025). I can't find the version number. Right-click on the "OculusClient.exe" file shows "0.1.0", which seems wrong.
  2. The product you’re using: Quest Link
  3. If this is related to standalone or Quest Link: Link
  4. Description of the issue: Attempting to load Quest Link, Steam VR in Quest Link or Elite Dangerous in Quest Link causes the display to freeze and glitch at the edges. The issue is sometimes delayed by a few minutes, but once it has occurred it does not seem to be recoverable without a reboot of the headset. This is a brand new device (arrived today) and I'm using the official £90 cable. Very disappointed.
  5. Screenshots that might apply
The following photo was taken through the right-hand lens after it started glitching within Quest Link itself (before loading another app).

  6. Any additional information: I haven't seen the headset glitch when using it as a standalone device, so I believe this is an issue with Quest Link specifically. Any help would be welcome.

Yes. It's just a settings issue. Use the Oculus Debug Tool to decrease the Encode Bitrate until you get smooth performance or enable Encode Dynamic Bitrate if you had previously disabled it. Possibly also disable Asynchronous Spacewarp. Also, if using AirLink, disable Sliced Encoding, but if using cable connection, enable Sliced Encoding.

Diagnostic Report – Meta Link Runtime Crash (LibOVRRTImpl64_1.dll)

    System & Runtime Context

    • Headset: Meta Quest 3
    • Connection: Meta Link (USB)
    • PC Runtime: Meta Horizon Runtime (latest public build at time of crash)
    • Game: Crossfire: Sierra Squad (Unreal Engine 4.27)
    • Crash frequency: Every few seconds after entering gameplay
    • Observed behavior:
      • Severe freezing, glitching, and eventual crash
      • OVRServer_x64.exe repeatedly terminates and restarts
      • Link session becomes unstable or disconnects
    • Windows Event Viewer – Fault Details

      • Faulting application: CFSS-Win64-Shipping.exe
      • Application version: 4.27.2.0
      • Faulting module: LibOVRRTImpl64_1.dll
      • Module version: 85.0.239.552
      • Exception code: 0xc0000409 (STATUS_STACK_BUFFER_OVERRUN)
      • Fault offset: 0x000000000034f345
      • Application path: C:\VR APP\Crossfire.Sierra.Squad\CFSS\CFSS\Binaries\Win64\CFSS-Win64-Shipping.exe
      • Module path: C:\Program Files\Meta Horizon\Support\oculus-runtime\LibOVRRTImpl64_1.dll
    • OVRService / OVRServer Behavior

      • OVRServer_x64.exe repeatedly dies with exit code 1
      • Runtime attempts multiple relaunches
      • This matches reports from other users experiencing the same issue after the latest runtime update .
      • Technical Interpretation

        • 0xc0000409 indicates a stack buffer overrun, almost always caused by:
          • A bug in the runtime DLL
          • Memory corruption inside the Meta Link pipeline
        • Since the crash originates inside LibOVRRTImpl64_1.dll, not the game, this strongly suggests:
          • Regression in the latest Meta Horizon runtime
          • Not a game-side issue
          • Not a hardware issue
        • The repeated OVRServer crashes confirm a runtime-level failure.
        • Impact

          • Meta Link becomes unusable for affected titles
          • Runtime instability affects all PCVR sessions
          • Issue is reproducible and consistent

Hello, I’m reaching out because I genuinely don’t understand the situation. Meta is one of the largest technology companies in the world, operating globally with tens of thousands of employees. That’s why I find it surprising that even after investing my time into diagnosing the issue on my side, I haven’t received a clear response, a simple acknowledgment, or even a “thank you” for taking the time to help identify the problem.

Time is the one thing no one can give back, and I would really appreciate at least basic feedback or confirmation that my issue is actually being worked on.

Thank you for your understanding. I look forward to your reply.

    Best regards, Kuzmo

I finally solved it by downgrading my nvidia drivers to version 591.74. Link has not crashed once.
