Oculus Rift controllers not working in-game after update

6/11/2024, allowed Meta Link to update on my PC for my Rift CV1.  Everything still works until I get into a game.  Once I enter the game, the Touch controllers are not detected when moving, and in the game they are at ground level and will not move.  The Oculus button still worked, and I could use the controllers to select quit app, but they will not move while in a game.  So far I re-installed Oculus, but did not delete all the hidden files.  I updated my Nvidea drivers to the latest 555.xx version.

Hey guys! Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. I've been working with the engineering teams trying to get a solution for this issue. HOWEVER, I do want to let you know I've been passing as much information as I can to the them, as well as the workaround that was provided by @8aron. If your issue has been resolved with their method, I advise other users to try this as well. If you're worried about having to do it for every update, I confirmed with the teams, and they told me you can turn off automatic updates for your Rift device. All you need to do is follow the steps below:

  • Go to Settings > Developer > Allow Automatic Meta Quest Link Software Updates > Toggle Off.

After doing this and following the workaround, you shouldn't have to worry about your headset needing to be updated.

I've also been asking teams for an official solution from them regarding this issue. I'm not sure when they will be able to get back to me with additional progress updates. Since there is only so much information that I can relay from here on the forums to them. I strongly recommend continuing to submit bug reports and be as detailed as possible with the reports. Even if you think the information that you provide for them might not mean much, any detail that they're given can be of great help to them. I hope this information helps!

Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The force shall free me.

I’ve been experiencing the same issues since the Meta software was upgraded to v66.  No need to restate the symptoms here, since the issue is well documented by others.  This should be an extremely simple fix for Meta, given the analysis that the Community has already provided - including identifying the EXACT three files that are the culprits.

Would really appreciate Meta’s urgency on the fix, since VR doesn’t really function when the Touch controllers are not recognized in-app.

Sincerely, Captain Obvious 🫤

Reposting cause the original got buried, and new people coming to the thread will probably not see this.

Here are some steps to hopefully fix everyone's issues.

Step 1: Download and Set Up Oculus Tray Tool

  1. Download the Oculus Tray Tool.
  2. Set it up and go to the Service & Startup tab.
  3. Stop the Oculus service.

Step 2: Access and Download the Oculus Runtime Fix

  1. Go to this Reddit post about the recent Oculus VR bug fix.
    • If the link doesn't work, search for "Recent Oculus VR bug DCS Reddit" in your web browser. It should be the first link that appears.
  2. In the Reddit post, click on the purple link titled "oculus-runtime".
  3. This will take you to a Google Drive page. Click on oculus-runtime on the top left of the screen and then click Download.

Step 3: Extract and Replace Oculus Runtime Files

  1. Extract the downloaded .zip file.
  2. Go to your current Oculus runtime folder. The default file path is:
    C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime

Step 4: Backup and Replace Runtime Files

  1. Move all the files from the current runtime folder into a backup folder.
  2. Copy all the subfiles from the extracted folder (oculus-runtime-20240621T015429Z-001\oculus-runtime) into your Oculus runtime folder.

Step 5: Restart Oculus Service

  1. Start the Oculus service again using the Oculus Tray Tool and pray it works.

Note : As said by other users, changing the internal files may break other services, please do this fix at your own risk. That being said I haven’t seen or experienced it braking my software yet.

Also if you use the super sampler included in oculus, it will not work with this fix. to get it to work you will have to do the same process with the 2 other files in the reddit thread.

I hope this fixes everyone’s issues! Please let me know if you need help.

i tried your solution but with no success. i may have failed a few steps like runing tray tool cuz it gave warning on my windows. I know its not official with a valid certificate but still my setup is work PC i cant risk it.

My solution was installing SteamVR and in settings set OpenXR runtime to SteamVR. After that controllers started working in UE5.3 VR preview.

I am also having this issue. Within the Oculus/Meta dashboard I can use my controllers just fine. Can navigate menus, go into settings, screen shots etc. But the moment I move to Steam VR the controllers lock into place. All on games I've put tons of hours into. Been using this headset for several years now with no issues until this update.

Rift CV1 controllers are working again in Meta Quest Link App Version 67.0.0.198.355 with its included DLLs.

If you haven't yet received this version or above, you can try enabling Public Test Channel under Settings, Beta.

On Friday, nexusmtz and Deeperbeige reported that “Rift CV1 controllers are working again in Meta Quest Link App Version 67.0.0.198.355 with its included DLLs.”  Is that accurate … or are the controllers not fixed in v67?

Btw - a sincere thank you for staying engaged with the Meta engineering team on this issue.  I know there are countless longtime Oculus/Meta VR supporters (most of whom probably haven’t seen this Community thread) who will breathe a sigh of relief when this is resolved.

I just joined the public test channel and v67 does indeed fix the Rift Touch controller issue!

Note to The_1st_Dark_Lord_Morgoth Meta Quest Support … I don’t believe users have a “Developer” tab under Settings, so we are unable to opt out of automatic Meta software updates.

I am having the exact same issue with my CV1 and controllers. It only works in menus or SteamVR games. But in Oculus games the controllers were not tracking.

I did do the workaround by going on the Beta Branch (in the Oculus app Settings -> Beta -> Public Test Chanel) and this fixed my issue. Hopefully Oculus fixes this issue on the main branch.

What I find odd is I think my normal branch was Version 67.0.0.206.355, and now that I'm on the Beta branch I'm on Version 67.0.0.206.355, which is the same? So not sure what changed. But when i turned on Beta it did have me restart so maybe there's something different.

I did futz a little more and go off of the Beta channel and back to the normal and the controllers are working on that as well. So not sure if it just needed a good restart? I uninstalled and re-installed, but I guess Oculus probably left some dlls or hidden files still on my PC.
