Question

Pro controllers still not updating, and totally unusable

I bought the pro controllers for my son for his Oculus 3, and its still not updating the controllers.  There holding steady at 0% for a day and a half.  I could understand if this was an off brand controller from a different company, but these controllers are from your company, which are supposed to pair and update with your VR headset.  I seen tons of topics on the same issue.  If i can shell out a couple hundred dollars for your controllers, as least you can do is make sure your IT team has a solid product leaving the warehouse.  I looked everywhere, and i did everything from factory resetting the head set and controllers to deleting and re downloading the app to make sure the current app version is being used.  This issue has been going on for over a year, why isnt there a firmware fix??  Im about to return these bricked controllers.

This problem has been going on for over a year.  I know entire housing communities are built in less time.  How long does it take to fix a controller issue.  They should of fixed it a year and a half ago.  Can i ask who told you its a software issue and it will be fixed soon?  I want to know so i can reach out to them.  Appreciate any info you can give me.

Exact same issues here!! I’m on Day 2 of trying all of the tips to get my new Pro controllers to work with either my Quest 2 or my Quest 3. Stuck at 0%.

Yeah im on day 3 with no luck.  Factory reset both headset and controllers 10 times, deleted and downloaded the app 7 times, left the controllers to update for 3 days still no luck!  Is there any Meta Developers that cruise this forum that can chime in?

Think i found a fix no thanks to the Meta Support.  I connected the headset to my desktop computer and ran the  software update tool at this link Meta Quest Software Update | Meta Store,  Follow the instructions.  After the update tool ran, i paired the controllers through the app on my phone while leaving the headset plugged into my desktop.  Follow the instructions on the headset.  After doing this the controllers gave me a promising 1% updated.  Leave the headset on to track the progress.  Both controllers fully updated with a "Success" message after 10 minutes.  Both controllers work now.  I dont even work for Meta and i found a fix.  What the heck is this company doing.  I hope this works for you guys.

What long version number have you ended up on after updating? I just tried this and it tells me I'm already on the latest version, so I'm wondering if a new update is in limited release

When we did it, it said our software was already up to date but keep the following the instructions in the headset.  My son said when he had the headset on when i had him follow the software update tool, that what looked like a microchip with a arrow down the middle of it and a rectangular horizontal bar appeared in his headset that hes never seen before.  Soon after that ended, he paired his controllers in the phone app, and they started to download the update.  I found out through forums that the microchip that appears with the down arrow and the bar below it means that an update is being installed.  Maybe using the software update tool force updates the controllers to update.  I tried everything and this is the only thing that worked.

When I do the link it’s doesn’t give me anything on the headset. It just makes the screen turned black. Does that happen to you or can I fix it

I have found another solution, this worked for me but your mileage may vary.

    1. Unpair your controllers using Meta Horizon.
    2. Factory reset your device by shutting it down then holding power + volume down, and cycling to the reset option.
    3. Pair the controllers during the setup process then finish setup and connect to wifi.
    4. Download the Oculus Developer Hub (ODH), and sign in through your Meta account. You must have a developer account, but this is simple to get.
    5. Physically connect your headset to ODH and allow access in headset to make sure it is active in device manager. Leave headset connected.
    6. In the device manager, go to device settings, scroll down and enable PTC.
    7. Unpair your controllers in Meta Horizon.
    8. In ODH device manager, open the device logs window.
    9. Pair controllers in Meta Horizon.

After pairing for the final time, mine started updating. I'm not sure whether it was PTC, being connected to ODH, having logging enabled, or some combination of this that made it work, but this caused mine to finally start updating.

I have been at this for near 8 hours. Meta support was expectedly useless, none of the other fixes worked. I was ready to return the controllers but thankfully found this. This was the only thing that worked. That you so much for this.

I finally got mine updated and working after a day of fighting which should never happen for a couple controllers that cost $270. This might not be possible, but I will detail what I did to get the controllers working. I unpaired the controllers from the Q3 using the phone ap, then unpaired the Q2 controllers from my Q2(V71) using the phone ap. I then paired the pro controllers to my Q2 using the phone ap and they immediately updated to the new version. Once they were working on the Q2 I unpaired them then tried pairing in the Q3. This did not work for me, so I had to factory reset the Q3 once again and then was finally able to pair the updated pro controllers to the Q3 during the install and all is up and running. I know it is a longshot that you have both headsets, but maybe a family member or friend has one that you can use to update the controllers using the steps I found successful.

Note this fix will require you to factory reset your quest device. So either make a backup, or you'll have to redownload everything. Also another note, anything not saved to the cloud will be lost unless you do a backup.

    1. Unpair your controllers using Meta Horizon.

    2. Factory reset the controllers. The process is as follows. Turn the controllers off. Press and hold the settings button and X button for the left and meta button and A button for the right. They will start pulsing red and white. Release the settings/meta button but continue to hold X/A until they do a fast red and white flashing and then the lights stop. You can then let go of X/A. Wait 120 seconds and turn the controllers off.

    3. Factory reset your quest device by shutting it down then holding power + volume down, and cycling to the reset option.

    4. Turn on and pair the controllers during the setup process (might have to wait a few minutes to be promoted to manually pair them.) Then finish setup and connect to wifi. (Note stop after you connect to WiFi and get connected to the meta horizons app. DO NOT CONTINUE WHEN YOU SEE THE "WELCOME BUBBLE") Just leave the headset with this welcome bubble.

    5. Download the Meta Quest Developer Hub (MQDH), and sign in through your Meta account. You must have a developer account. It's easy and only requires you to create an organization name and enable two factor authentication.

    6. With MQDH open physically connect your headset to MQDH and allow access (should see a prompt in the headset to allow access when you plug it in.) Make sure it is active in device manager portion of MQDH. Leave headset connected.

    7. In the device manager, go to device settings (cog on the far right where it shows your quest device) scroll down and enable PTC.

    8. Unpair your controllers in Meta Horizon.

    9. In MQDH device manager, open the device logs window. It is the third button to the left of the settings cog.

    10. Pair controllers in Meta Horizon.

I followed these same instructions posted to Reddit a few weeks ago to no avail.  Was able to see the Q2 headset via MQDH, but PTC is not available to enable assuming because the test channel is full.

I'm 10 hours in with weeks of back and fourth with Meta support, and finally got a meaningful reply that they realize this is widespread problem and are working with highest tier engineers to provide a fix.

It sounds like the fix is in the PTC, and whenever they roll that update out to production it will help a lot of people get the pro controller 0% update problem resolved.

If you wait it will eventually fall back to controllerless setup using headset direction and volume buttons

Yeah it will eventually and then it just says your controllers aren’t connected you cant go further. And you are stuck without a headset or controllers. Why is the factory reset necessary to this? Has anyone tried just doing the PTC first?

Made the quest. Every time I try connecting my pro controllers It keeps saying to update and update and I tried so many methods and it won't work. Really got them and I thought they're gonna be amazing. They're literally $200. 300. You're literally selling something that doesn't even work. Please fix this with an update, please.
