Quest 2, 3 & Pro - Connectivity Issues

Hi everyone,
I have a Quest 3 and cannot connect the the wifi (it's a freebox, french internet provider).

Steps i took to troubleshoot :

  • I did manage to connect the quest to my cellphone via hotspot.
  • I factory reseted the quest and retried to connect to the freebox via passwords and QR code.
  • I trued to connect the quest via the phone app.
  • Rooter was rebooted, i was in the same room etc.
  • We have all other devices connecting without problem to this rooter.

Thanks for your help

Hey everyone! I'm a bit late to the party for announcing this, but the PTC for V67 just started rolling out not too long ago. It sounds really promising that some of you are already reporting improvements after updating! For anyone else participating in the latest V67 PTC build, please feel free to continue providing your feedback and experiences—along with your full build numbers, so that I can continue funneling these reports to the team. I don't have confirmation on whether or not a fix was supposed to roll out for this PTC build, but I'm working on finding out anything more I can share from the team. Thanks for continuing to keep me updated with your feedback!

Update:

Hey everyone, its looking like some people are seeing their issue resolved by updating to the latest PTC. If you're interested in testing out the new PTC release, you can find more information for how to opt in here. Please keep in mind that the PTC is a test build for unreleased Quest software builds, so while your Wi-Fi connectivity may have improvements, it's possible that other features of the software could be unstable. If you prefer to stay on stable public builds, I recommend holding out for the live V67 release, which should hopefully be coming out sometime soon!

Hey Gunstar_Tony ! We've noticed that you're having some issues connecting to your router. We understand that having a stable Wi-Fi connection is crucial for a great gaming experience, so we'd like to help you find a solution. Is your router using a mesh signal or any Wi-Fi extenders? Are you currently using a VPN? Instead of doing a factory reset, you can try rebooting your device after setting it up with your phone's hotspot and then attempting to connect to Wi-Fi again. Let's work together to get you back online!

I got a new Quest 3 just yesterday. But now today it just keeps disconnecting me from the internet every 10 minutes and it’s so frustrating. I already tried every single troubleshooting step but yet it still does not work. Any one have ideas?

Hi there, Dark1023! We certainly don't want this to continue pulling our users away from the virtual world, so we appreciate you bringing that Wi-Fi issue to our attention! If you haven't already, we do have some troubleshooting steps that have been known to fix this sort of issue for other users in the past. When you get the chance, please try out the following for us, and let us know if anything changes:

  1. Hard reboot your headset. Here's the steps to do so:
    • Turn off your headset.
    • Firmly hold the power and volume down (-) buttons on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
    • Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight 'Boot device' and press the power button.
  2. Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect communication (such as headset covers, etc.)
  3. Try connecting to a different network altogether. Does the different network also disconnect after around ten minutes?
  4. Reboot your router.
  5. As a last resort, please perform a factory reset through your headset's boot menu.

After updating to the v64 PTC AirLink is completely unusable. Performance is very unstable and WiFi completely disconnects, crashing AirLink. I've seen reports of the happening on Quest 2, Quest Pro, and obviously on my Quest 3. I use a UniFi U6 Enterprise AP connected to the 6GHz band via WiFi 6E and have not had any WiFi issues prior to v64.

I am also having this issue. v64 was rolled out on Monday. When I got home from work I tried to play some PCVR, like normal. First thing I noticed was the controller updates, which tipped me off an update had gone thru and I checked and it now says v64. Problem is it just keeps dropping the wifi connection every minute or so, usually it reconnects after 5-10 seconds, but it basically is making it unplayable.

It has been rock solid for 4 months before this. I was on VRCHat for 5 hours just last Saturday night and it was working perfectly. Now I've rebooted everything multiple times and tried several different games. It's even dropping the connection sitting on the desktop view of Virtual Desktop, without even launching anything. I can't even make it thru a single Beat Saber track without it dropping out.

I have the TP Link Deco XE75 setup as a 6ghz dedicated access point right adjacent to my play area. Connecting with Virtual Desktop to my Skytech Gaming 7800X3D w/ 4090 that I bought last December specifically for playing PCVR with my Q3.

I did submit a bug report on the headset and included the extra system info for debugging or whatever. Someone mentioned trying 5ghz wifi instead. I have not tried that yet. I'm just hoping this can be patched soon. I have found other comments from PTC users complaining of the same issue, but it seems it was not fixed before being released to everyone.

Hey there, Guad67189! We don't want Wi-Fi connection issues getting in the way of you being able to enjoy VR to the fullest!

To ensure you are connected correctly to Wi-Fi please be sure to follow the steps from our link: here.

If it's still not connecting, please try the following:

  • Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect communication (such as headset covers, etc.)
  • Try connecting to a different network.

Please let us know if that helped out or if more assistance is needed, as we're always more than happy to help!

We recently changed internet providers and now have a new Wi-Fi Router. We have the same network name and password. With all of our other devices I had to "Forget network" and then reconnect using same name and password and it has worked. I tried this on my Oculus Meta Quest 2 and it will not connect. It keeps asking me to check that I have the correct password, which I do. I have tried a hard reset and that has not helped. Any suggestions?

Today I got a Meta quest 3. I have 5ghz wifi. the router is connected to another router that is not 5ghz. I'm having trouble getting through the system update when I first start vr because I can't connect to the internet. It either says "limited connection" or "can't connect". I haven't found anything on the internet, please help.

Not a solution - Marking for visibility

Hey everyone! I came across this thread and wanted to pop in to get a bit more information about everyone's network setup. I know having a reliably consistent connection is a huge part of the online experience, so I'm more than happy to help lend a hand here!

  • Can you share your current Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
    • Spectrum, Comcast, Verizon, etc.
  • Which router are you using (Brand & Model)?
    • Look on the front, back, sides, or bottom of your router for the manufacturer name and model
  • Which Modem are you using? (Brand & Model)?
    • This can also be found on the front, back, sides, or bottom of the device.
  • Are your Router & Modem separated devices, or a single unit?
  • Did your ISP provide your network devices, or did you buy your own?
    • If so, please specify which devices are ISP provided, and which are not.
  • Is your network a set of mesh routers?
    • Multiple access points that pass your device between them to find the most stable connection for the device.
  • Does your router have a separate guest network name?
  • Does your router have a separate network name for different bands?
    • e.g. MyHome-2.4Ghz + MyHome-5Ghz + MyHome-6Ghz
  • Are you attempting to connect to the device using the headset's virtual keyboard or the QR code?
  • Have you configured the router yourself using the router's web page or companion app?
  • Are you attempting to connect your headset to a separate, dedicated router for your play space?
  • If you're looking to share more information from the headset itself for our engineering team, please use the Report a Problem feature immediately after a failed connection attempt

Hello, I have a problem with Wifi disconnecting on the quest 3. It started happening yesterday. Headset is on v64. Using a dedicated TP-Link Deco AX75 Wifi 6e access point which has had a flawless connection since October 23. Now the wifi is disconnecting constantly whether using Virtual Desktop or standalone. Headset reports full signal 2401mpbs but the deco app reports weak signal. I have rebooted network, router, deleted 6g network and created a new 6g network with different name and password yet the issure continues. My last thing to try is to factory reset the headset. Has anyone seen similar behaviour and found a solution?

petecod I am having the same problem. I'm not using a 6GHz channel, but a Wifi 6 Router with 5GHz and since a minor update of the v64 I got the same disconnections like you discribe. Are you on PTC or got the regular v64 installed?

RobbenB regular v64 here, i have no solution at all. factory reset the quest, rebuilt the network from scratch and it still disconnects when connected to the 6g dedicated network. I have now given up and connected to the 5ghz network instead which is stable but 860mbps vs the 2401mbps i was getting. The 6ghz network has been very reliable for the past 6 months but since the update it is just constant disconnections.

Thank you for this... I will give 5ghz a try. I was super bummed to think my PCVR playtime was going to be put on hold until they patched this.

Same here. Never had a problem until the switch to v64 (PTC). Frequent disconnect since then. Factory reset didn't help. New router didn't help either. Tried 2.4ghz/5ghz/6ghz.

Hey petecod! I'm currently working on collecting more information to bring to our engineering team to look into. With the ISP, model, and other information (with their default configuration), we may be able to work with the ISP to resolve the issue. If everyone here could provide the information from my previous reply (the marked solution), I'll be able to share these reports with the team. Thank you for your patience!

TheLegend27 thanks for the reply, good to know you're gathering information. Here's mine:

  • Can you share your current Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
    • VIRGIN UK
  • Which router are you using (Brand & Model)?
    • TP-LINK DECO XE75
  • Which Modem are you using? (Brand & Model)?
    • VIRGIN HUB 4 (IN MODEM MODE)
  • Are you using a Gateway? (Router + Modem combo) YES, VIRGIN HUB 4 WITH TP LINK DECO
  • Did your ISP provide your network devices, or did you buy your own?
    • ISP PROVIDED MODEM, SEPARATELY PURCHASED TP-LINK DECO XE75
  • Is your network a set of mesh routers?
    • YES
  • Does your router have a separate guest network name? GUEST NETWORK IS DISABLED
  • Does your router have a separate network name for different bands?
    • 2.4GHZ AND 5GHZ NETWORKS SHARE THE SAME SSID, 6GHZ HAS A DIFFERENT SSID
  • Are you attempting to connect to the device using the headset's virtual keyboard or the QR code? VIRTUAL KEYBOARD TO ENTER THE NETWORK PASSWORD
  • Have you configured the router yourself using the router's web page or companion app? YES INITIALLY AND ALSO AFTER A TOTAL NETWORK RESET YESTERDAY. REBUILT THE NETWORK FROM SCRATCH.
  • Are you attempting to connect your headset to a separate, dedicated router for your play space? YES, THE TP-LINK ID AX75 6GHZ BAND IS DEDICATED TO THE QUEST AND IS THE ONLY DEVICE CONNECTED (UNTIL IT DISCONNECTS ITSELF!). THE 6GHZ CONNECTION WAS EXTREMELY ROBUST BEFORE THE V64 UPDATE, NOW IT IS UNUSEABLE.

Apologies for the CAPS!
