Quest 2, 3 & Pro - Connectivity Issues

Hi everyone,
I have a Quest 3 and cannot connect the the wifi (it's a freebox, french internet provider).

Steps i took to troubleshoot :

  • I did manage to connect the quest to my cellphone via hotspot.
  • I factory reseted the quest and retried to connect to the freebox via passwords and QR code.
  • I trued to connect the quest via the phone app.
  • Rooter was rebooted, i was in the same room etc.
  • We have all other devices connecting without problem to this rooter.

Thanks for your help

Hey everyone! I'm a bit late to the party for announcing this, but the PTC for V67 just started rolling out not too long ago. It sounds really promising that some of you are already reporting improvements after updating! For anyone else participating in the latest V67 PTC build, please feel free to continue providing your feedback and experiences—along with your full build numbers, so that I can continue funneling these reports to the team. I don't have confirmation on whether or not a fix was supposed to roll out for this PTC build, but I'm working on finding out anything more I can share from the team. Thanks for continuing to keep me updated with your feedback!

Update:

Hey everyone, its looking like some people are seeing their issue resolved by updating to the latest PTC. If you're interested in testing out the new PTC release, you can find more information for how to opt in here. Please keep in mind that the PTC is a test build for unreleased Quest software builds, so while your Wi-Fi connectivity may have improvements, it's possible that other features of the software could be unstable. If you prefer to stay on stable public builds, I recommend holding out for the live V67 release, which should hopefully be coming out sometime soon!

Mmmmmm your experience is not encouraging me doing same lot of experiments about changing protocols or settings....I do think however a loss of connection has something to do with the handshake between devices so even if we could not look at the source code of this part lets try identifying at least the concerned part. For example I have in mind letting the private wifi link fully open to see if a secured part is concerned. I can't either put apart some possible EMI effect of the environment linked to a high susceptibility of the HMD and its lack of real antenna surface, like the 5G is using also close bandwidth with spurious that could be disturbing the RF, I will try putting my phone off when playing to see etc...the end would be to group for a class action against META. I've also asked the question in the Virtual Desktop discord and will check in my community of 6DOF platform owners. It's a pity because the best is performing ideally under DCS or MSFS in PCVR with VD.....and I just found the good VR settings....

So I will still continue to investigate apart the hope of a solution included in a new FW....would be interesting using a spectrum analyser to check the environment and a protocol recorder to log all the events between the devices during a session ....in my career of electronic engineer I faced more complex situations ....so lets consider this as a police enquiry to find the guilty😉 for sure the META behaviour is not correct but I think that we knew that would be the case from the very beginning when buying the Quest....PCVR is only a fraction (small) of their business model based on shop VR games selling while this model could as well be strongly impacted by this failure....

Looks like many folks have the same issue on the Virtual Desktop discord….

Today, I decided to explore the Meta forum to see what other discussions are happening. While browsing, I came across a big thread titled...

"Known Issue - Unstable wifi coverage with Quest 3 on some Router Brands."

Here's my summary: "Since Quest 3's launch, users have encountered Wi-Fi issues, particularly with mid-range AX and AXE routers like TP-Link's AXE75. Despite Meta's updates (v.57 to v.60), speed fluctuations persist, ranging from 480 to 1921 Mbps. TP-Link suggests the issue might be with Meta or Qualcomm, affecting other brands too.
Speculation ties it to XR2 Gen2/Snapdragon 8 Gen2 drivers.
Meta attempted to reduce further speed fluctuations in the v62-v64 firmwares , but some users now report connection losses.

examples from the thread (last pages)
"After updating to v64 it seeeeeems that it's lagging less for me too. Anybody else with v64 seeing differences?"

"Fingers crossed. It's very different for me since this update."

"Q3 updated to v64. Meta Quest Link PC app updated to v64
Wifi 6 AX Only or AC, 5Ghz constant disconnects on ASUS RT-AX82U with latest firmware. Quest 2 still has no issue."

Is this thread the reason for OUR problems???

This evening I changed my AXE 5400 TP link settings from 6E 6Ghz to 6 in 5Ghz and deactivated OFDMA, MU MiMO and using WP2 in place of WP3 I’ve played DCS 3 hours without wifi disconnection ….lets cross fingers….

only draw back is a loss of transmission of 50% in upload going from 700 to 350 Mbps, upload is 1Gbps the same

Just to share my own experience:

I'm connected to a TP-Link Archer AXE75 @ 6 GHz.

I experience occasional connection drops at a rate of about one every day. The Quest 3 also does not recognize the network reliably (which means it isn't shown in the list of available networks at all).

Connecting to a 5 GHz network from another access point seems to work fine, but I have not tested that for very long.

same behavior for me in 6Ghz WEP 3 personal connecting to 5Ghz same router and WEP2 crypto and disabling OFDMA looks to have solved the issue ….for now.., and much faster initial connection to network at power on

I got through to Meta help via chat and explained the issues and that I had done all the standard steps. They do not seem to acknowledge this is a widespread problem: See thread:

  • You've reconfirm that you did all of the troubleshooting steps and your issue persist

  • yes

  • Moreover, your other devices also able to connect fine to the Wi-Fi, so it's most likely a hardware issue

  • It is just that on the forum others have had replacement headsets and they do the same thing

    4:21 PM

  • I was under the impression that Meta is trying to investigate and solve this issue with firmware update ?

    4:23 PM
  • There are no updates for this issue being an ongoing issue as of now

    4:24 PM

  • If your issue still persists, we're happy to help!

yes

What advice are others getting. I am reluctant to replace the headset if it is not a hardware issue.

harry. As I wrote, and at least on my TP LINK AXE archer 5400, switching to 5Ghz seems good. I tried that because the headset connected with no problem on my other local general  wifi extender router in wifi5

so either it is a hardware general problem with wifi 6E or a 6E problem linked with the TP Link router 5400

could also be a software problem with the WEP3 personal crypto protocol I didn’t tried connecting to a open 6E network with no protection but would be interesting to do

i add that my wifi link with HMD is dedicated no other equipment is using it and also OFDMA protocol can be source of problem if activated, I’ve not dig into its process but it looks like managing channels bandwidth dynamically to provide selectivity to router

Thanks. I am connected to a 5ghz network but that hasn’t helped. Interestingly no problem if connected to mobile phone. I might try a short spell with no protection and see what happens.

harry.397987 in my case, 5ghz network has a stable connection and virtual desktop performance is good. I use a TP-Link Deco XE75 as an access point. But i believe that others still have problems on the 5ghz network like yourself.

What helped me so far is to deactivate IP6V in the Router settings. IP4V is the standart protokoll of the Quest 3. Hope that fixed it now.

I experience the same with a Fritbox 6490 cable router (ISP Vodafone in Germany). I didn't have the issue before with v63. It started with v64 and it is so **bleep** annoying because I usually only play Minigolf in an online league or Tabletennis online. These sudden WiFi disconnects are veeeeery bad. Happens on 2,4GHz and 5 GHz no matter what.

As I am experiencing also other bad issues like proximity sensor not wirking, Quest not waking up after charging it on the official charging stand, not turning off, after putting the headset to rest, head movement not recognized for waking up... I think I am finally in the mood to trying this exchange with a possibly refurbished headset... 😕
