Quest 2, 3 & Pro - Connectivity Issues

Hi everyone,
I have a Quest 3 and cannot connect the the wifi (it's a freebox, french internet provider).

Steps i took to troubleshoot :

  • I did manage to connect the quest to my cellphone via hotspot.
  • I factory reseted the quest and retried to connect to the freebox via passwords and QR code.
  • I trued to connect the quest via the phone app.
  • Rooter was rebooted, i was in the same room etc.
  • We have all other devices connecting without problem to this rooter.

Thanks for your help

Hey everyone! I'm a bit late to the party for announcing this, but the PTC for V67 just started rolling out not too long ago. It sounds really promising that some of you are already reporting improvements after updating! For anyone else participating in the latest V67 PTC build, please feel free to continue providing your feedback and experiences—along with your full build numbers, so that I can continue funneling these reports to the team. I don't have confirmation on whether or not a fix was supposed to roll out for this PTC build, but I'm working on finding out anything more I can share from the team. Thanks for continuing to keep me updated with your feedback!

Update:

Hey everyone, its looking like some people are seeing their issue resolved by updating to the latest PTC. If you're interested in testing out the new PTC release, you can find more information for how to opt in here. Please keep in mind that the PTC is a test build for unreleased Quest software builds, so while your Wi-Fi connectivity may have improvements, it's possible that other features of the software could be unstable. If you prefer to stay on stable public builds, I recommend holding out for the live V67 release, which should hopefully be coming out sometime soon!

Can also confirm that the problem still exists with my Fritzbox 7490. It behaves kind of strange. In most games like Tabletennis, BeatSaber, DarthVader the disconnect popup comes up regulary. Not sure if its 10 minutes but it kinda feels like it. But then yesterday evening for example i played 3 hours of Demeo without any disconnects at all. I don't understand it. I am using only the 5 GH band. Tried nothing on the router so far because it was working to some point, i guess problem for me also appeard with v64.

I've read in another thread (german) that it could be related to EAPOL key retries beeing dropped by the quest. The interval matches up with the disconnects.

Hopefully meta can folllow up on this.

On another note, I wonder if disabling wpa2 would then stop the disconnects. As unsafe as it is, at least limiting the wifi to only accept the quest 3 mac adress and reducing signal range to a minimum should present some sort of safety while they are working on a fix.

I tried disabling wpa2 but it still happened. I do hope Meta is taking this seriously. Unfortunately  whenI interacted with support they said there are no reported problems!

I will try to push also through the chat tomorrow, for now I have to check with the FW65 switching to 5Ghz with FW64 improved drastically the situation however even if I still encounter few breaks there are much much less frequent

That’s good info I had in mind trying that but as the situation looks stabilized I postponed …however I noticed that in 5Ghz WP2 the connection to the network is immediate at power on while it was painful in 6Ghz WP3. I had however yet 2 or 3 disconnections in 6 or 7 hours but the HMD reconnect immediately nevertheless it is sufficient to push me out of my virtual desktop session so of my game (DCS). I can watch the VD disconnected but the taskbar shows always wifi connected so the break would have been very short probably….

I'm on V65 and I also have breaks from time to time, using 5 Ghz. By pinging for an extended period of time, I am sure that the router's internet connections via cable are absolutely stable.

Hello, I just bought a Quest 3 and I'm having big wifi problems with the PCVR.
I have a Quest 2 too and strangely I never had a problem with the wifi

That’s really disappointing. I was offered a replacement for mine but I am reluctant as I don’t think it solves the problem. Support told me Meta is aware of the issue and is working on it.

Miguel34400  Welcome to the club…..switching to 5Ghz solved somehow the problem for me at least for the prime connection after power on that was faster. For now I switched back to 6Ghz for longer test of FW65 I’ve just installed.  It seems more stable but longer to connect at power on even with a dedicated link through a fix IP and Mac adress provided in the network description between the router and the HMD. Unfortunately it is almost possible that there is a hardware problem of antenna or wifi transceiver card inside some helmet….However, such an issue would trig almost the same behaviour in the same HMD whatever being the FW release which is not the case…so it is mostly a software problem.

  • Can you share your current Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
    • FREE company in France
  • Which router are you using (Brand & Model)?
    • TP-LINK 6E AXE 5400 ARCHER in Acess Point tested in wifi6 5Ghz or 6Ghz alone, 802.11ax WPA2  in 5 or WPA3 personal in 6Ghz
  • Which Modem are you using? (Brand & Model)?
    • FREE revolution 6 modem acting as DHCP server with a fix IP local adress for the HMD, TP link router and computer (PCVR with VD tested only) provided by the ISP but the problem is a wireless one between the HMD and the TP-LINK router. Internet or main wifi local loop are not concerned
  • Are your Router & Modem separated devices, or a single unit?
    • separate units
  • Did your ISP provide your network devices, or did you buy your own?
    • Modem provided by FREE ISP, TP Link secondary AP router bought
  • If so, please specify which devices are ISP provided, and which are not.
    • see above
  • Is your network a set of mesh routers?
    • no
  • Multiple access points that pass your device between them to find the most stable connection for the device.
    • no the internet path to the HMD is the following : Modem, internal modem router, Ethernet cable, dual wall plug TP-LINK PA9025P, Ethernet cable, TP LINK AXE 5400 AP router, wireless to HMD, Ethernet Gb to computer for PCVR use with Virtual Desktop. Internet is good, wireless between AXE router and HMD randomly fails
    • I have a secondary wifi network on the same modem using a NETGEAR Orbi wifi 5 extender in AP for all devices except the Quest3 which is used in PCVR only with a direct wireless link with the TP LINK AXE 5400 wifi6 router
  • Does your router have a separate guest network name?
    • the TP Link router network wireless link with  the HMD has a different account name from the main local wifi internet account coming from my Modem but I don’t have a double NAT. All devices are on the same local network with local IP adress fix programmed in the Modem for a stable IP DHCP delivery value to everybody or so. All devices connected to the main wifi are stable. Only HMD which is the sole client of the TP LINK moreover when in 6Ghz has random problems.
  • Does your router have a separate network name for different bands?
  • e.g. MyHome-2.4Ghz + MyHome-5Ghz + MyHome-6Ghz
    • im using only one wifi6 5 or 6Ghz (tested both separately) network at a time on my dedicated to HMD TP LINK AXE 5400 router so only one name, the wifi5 5GHz or cable network dedicated to all other devices like IoT etc…is separate and has another name. The computer wifi linked to the TP LINK AXE AP router by Ethernet G2 has wifi off.
  • Are you attempting to connect to the device using the headset's virtual keyboard or the QR code?
    • don’t understand the question, I’ve created a unique network wireless account in the HMD to link wirelessly with the dedicated TP LINK Archer AP AXe 5400 6E wifi6 router using the virtual keyboard typing information
  • Have you configured the router yourself using the router's web page or companion app?
    • yes of course I configured myself, I’m engineer
  • Are you attempting to connect your headset to a separate, dedicated router for your play space?
    • yes connecting directly to internet through the 5Ghz wifi5 of the main modem network used by more than 20 devices looks stable and is immediate but I’ve not tested it widely as it is not my main use, connecting in PCVR through the dedicated TP LINK router randomly fails
  • If you're looking to share more information from the headset itself for our engineering team, please use the Report a Problem feature immediately after a failed connection attempt
    • I have done so but without any answer nor acknowledgment of reception
  • i can add that first wireless connection after power on is much faster even immediate in 5Ghz much laborious in 6Ghz. Things looks more stable since FW65 also

I also wanted to report back.
So it's quite strange that it's been running for 5 days without a single disconnect. Currently playing Ghost of Tabor. Now last week I used SteamLink instead of Virtual Desktop.
Actually only because I was dissatisfied with the performance.
Because even though I have a powerful PC, the frame rate in the vegetation always went down. No matter how low I set the settings.
and now: with SteamLink, everything on epic and SuperSampling... everything stable at 90 hz AND oh wonder, no more WiFi disconnects since then.

I remain skeptical...
As I have described in past posts:
It's all so strange and incomprehensible.

Oh, I don't have WiFi 6. Only WiFi 5. And it made no difference whether v64 or v65. The crashes occurred regularly under wifi 5 and also in tests even with wifi 4 (2.4ghz). And i didn't change anything in between constant drops and now stabil connection....

It is in german but after disabling "Layer 2 acceleration" I have a stable connection so far. I don't know if it's just an AVM feature but maybe worth a try.

Yes that definitely helped back then with FIFA 21 or so. Unfortunately I have German Vodafone Fritzbox 6490 Cable and it is Vodafone branded. Means this setting is reset everytime (nicht?) again by Vodafone-Default + not the neuesten Firmware. I hope I can get hands on an own fritbox to see if it worls better.
