Quest 2, 3 & Pro - Connectivity Issues

Hi everyone,
I have a Quest 3 and cannot connect the the wifi (it's a freebox, french internet provider).

Steps i took to troubleshoot :

  • I did manage to connect the quest to my cellphone via hotspot.
  • I factory reseted the quest and retried to connect to the freebox via passwords and QR code.
  • I trued to connect the quest via the phone app.
  • Rooter was rebooted, i was in the same room etc.
  • We have all other devices connecting without problem to this rooter.

Thanks for your help

Hey everyone! I'm a bit late to the party for announcing this, but the PTC for V67 just started rolling out not too long ago. It sounds really promising that some of you are already reporting improvements after updating! For anyone else participating in the latest V67 PTC build, please feel free to continue providing your feedback and experiences—along with your full build numbers, so that I can continue funneling these reports to the team. I don't have confirmation on whether or not a fix was supposed to roll out for this PTC build, but I'm working on finding out anything more I can share from the team. Thanks for continuing to keep me updated with your feedback!

Update:

Hey everyone, its looking like some people are seeing their issue resolved by updating to the latest PTC. If you're interested in testing out the new PTC release, you can find more information for how to opt in here. Please keep in mind that the PTC is a test build for unreleased Quest software builds, so while your Wi-Fi connectivity may have improvements, it's possible that other features of the software could be unstable. If you prefer to stay on stable public builds, I recommend holding out for the live V67 release, which should hopefully be coming out sometime soon!

  • Yes there is such function but it is indicated under the name «  confidentiality »….TBH I don’t see the link between a fixed and a rolling Mac with confidentiality. Outside that, if there is a bug in the soft that lead the HMD to switch to a new Mac so to a new IP delivered by the DHCP, my VD app that is connected to its PC streamer counterpart disconnect automatically because it tries discussing with an IP adress that is no longer available. Even if the HMD switch back to the former Mac and IP , I need to quit and réopen VD to reconnect to the PC through the wireless link with the dedicated router. it would so be nice that META would look if some internal software configuration bug could not make that the HMD switches  alone to the rolling Mac configuration even if the fixed one has been selected….Another possibility is that there is internally a fixed Mac for the wifi card and a fixed Mac for example for the wired USB input? So that the bug would be an unexpected attempt to use the USB input even if it is not connected to a cable….Whatever being I’m quite sure that the problem is coming from this point.

I’m also using a Freebox revolution 6 with no problem but I’m not using the Freebox wifi. Usually I’m connected in PcVR through a dedicated TPLINK router connected by cable to the Freebox internal router through fast CPL (electric lines transmitters) at this time I encounter sometimes wireless disconnections that’s the reason of my presence here. However when I want playing stand alone I connect directly to the Freebox but through another wifi router used as a wifi acess point in 5Ghz and in this case it seems I have no problems. The Freebox is achieving the DHCP function for all my local network however. I encourage you defining Freebox parameters in myfreebox.freebox.fr to allocate « un bail fixe » to the Q3 using its MAC adress (visible in the about section of system parameters in the HMD VR) and choose you local IP adress accordingly like 192.168.x.x and to connect to the 5Ghz 802.11ac or ax only not to 2.4Ghz network. If necessary, use a dedicated to Q3 secondary router configured in AP connected by Ethernet to the internal Freebox server router.

I've been having this problem since May, thought I was the only one. Sadly I can't just connect to a separate router to fix it, I don't have the money at the moment to get a dedicated router. I am on google fiber and I can't just change the band that I am connecting to. This is really sad to cause I've only had my headset for 2 months now and I can't enjoy any game as it stands with these wifi drops. I really hope this problem gets fixed soon.

Perhaps in v68 end of year 2024.

This is ridiculous. In v63 all was fine. Since v64 and now v66 nothing has changed.

It's certainly ridiculous but what makes it infuriating is that there has been no update in this thread from any Meta staff for weeks now so we're left guessing if there will ever be a fix.

TheLegend27 could you possibly live up to your username and update the thread with the current status of this issue?

It's hard to tell what everyone situation is or if these are even the same issue.  Mine clearly started with the v64 update. I had been using my 6ghz wifi for months before that with no problems. After the update my connection would continually drop out between the headset and the router (TP Link XE75 - dedicated access point).  Luckily for me 5ghz worked fine and continues to work fine for me. I have tried 6ghz several times, including after getting the v65 update and the same issue exists. It immediately starts dropping the connection over and over again. It usually reconnects after a few seconds, but it's enough to make PCVR or any online games useless. THANK GOD my 5ghz still is working fine. I feel bad for those who can't get either band to work correctly.

Meta support won't even recognise the issue and just want to instantly replace the headset as well without even doing any diagnostics, they have no interest in diagnosing the issue with me either.

Except of they have knowledge of a clear failure in some hardware component like the wifi interface or its antenna ……it’s a bit curious that the simple first connection is instantaneous in 5Ghz and take sometimes more than one minute in 6Ghz….with a dedicated router….

I only use 5Ghz and it connects instantly but drops at random times, makes any multiplayer games useless.

I am an IT engineer but meta support didn't listen to a word I said and just kept repeating they want to replace the headset, absolutely useless service.

For now I’m testing activation of both 5 and 6Ghz on the router plus I suppress the DHCP and used a fixed local IP through MAC adress…in the HMD using the advanced button in the network parameters wait and see

The whole problem is probably just a bug that appeared after the update with some settings. I had a similar problem with an APP: Moon Player, never really used it, but after some update every film didn't start at the beginning, but completely randomly in the middle of a film and the controls to adjust the position of the movie screen wasn't working either.
Uninstalling/resetting everything in the app/reinstalling didn't help.
I then went into the Android file system of this app and manually deleted all remaining files there: and the problem was solved.

That's what will probably solve the problem here too. But where are the complete (!) wifi setting files stored in android? And can they be deleted with user rights?

That's what a factory reset should do which I have done twice, no change WiFi still drops every 10 minutes (and other times it's completely random)

No it will not reset everything: the operating system wont be reseted. And thats the problem, as the wifi drops apeared with the v64 os and wifi changes within the v64.

We had this with the white sparkles caused by an update on the Quest 2 for ages (got fixed many months later), we had audio dropout on the Rift caused by an update (never fixed) now this WIFI dropout, caused by an update.

Please, just give us the option to roll back to a working version, it's that simple, especially for a PCVR user that doesn't need new features offered by updates.

Still not a single reply from meta on this issue?

It's a 29 page long forum post, you would think they would acknowledge the issue here and give us a steer if this is software related.

But no.....you raise a case with meta and they instantly want to replace the whole headset, what a joke.

I don't even use the headset anymore as I can't play online without dropping out every 10 min, just sits in the box.

Its ridiculous man, mine its sitting there to while I use the 2, so  dumb, I will try to return this garbage.
