Quest 2, 3 & Pro - Connectivity Issues

Hi everyone,
I have a Quest 3 and cannot connect the the wifi (it's a freebox, french internet provider).

Steps i took to troubleshoot :

  • I did manage to connect the quest to my cellphone via hotspot.
  • I factory reseted the quest and retried to connect to the freebox via passwords and QR code.
  • I trued to connect the quest via the phone app.
  • Rooter was rebooted, i was in the same room etc.
  • We have all other devices connecting without problem to this rooter.

Thanks for your help

Hey everyone! I'm a bit late to the party for announcing this, but the PTC for V67 just started rolling out not too long ago. It sounds really promising that some of you are already reporting improvements after updating! For anyone else participating in the latest V67 PTC build, please feel free to continue providing your feedback and experiences—along with your full build numbers, so that I can continue funneling these reports to the team. I don't have confirmation on whether or not a fix was supposed to roll out for this PTC build, but I'm working on finding out anything more I can share from the team. Thanks for continuing to keep me updated with your feedback!

Update:

Hey everyone, its looking like some people are seeing their issue resolved by updating to the latest PTC. If you're interested in testing out the new PTC release, you can find more information for how to opt in here. Please keep in mind that the PTC is a test build for unreleased Quest software builds, so while your Wi-Fi connectivity may have improvements, it's possible that other features of the software could be unstable. If you prefer to stay on stable public builds, I recommend holding out for the live V67 release, which should hopefully be coming out sometime soon!

Workaround:

Hey if you havnt tried it already try to deactivate IPv6 in your router and only us IPv4 or put your Quest in an IPv4 only VLAN.

https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/18uoiu2/quest_drops_wifi_found_out_why_finally/

Deactivating IPv6 solved my connection issues with my Quest 3 which I had since v64 on a fritz.box 7590. The Quest 3 seems to have a problem with IPv6 addresses since v64 and drops the connection to get a new address or something like that.

definetely will try that. Though I'm unsure if other devices will have an issue with that...

Just wanted to point out again that it happens really exactly every 10 Minutes at some times and reconnects 2 seconds later again:

As other Devices don't show this behavior, it is obviously a Quest-Issue

Did the entire Meta moderation and support team all get abducted by aliens? There hasn't been an update from them for weeks! TheLegend27 are you there?

They all got new cry closets, so they'll be in there until a skilled dev comes along and fixes this trash.

Seems deactivation of IPv6 AND "Layer 2 Acceleration" didn't do any better

Even looks like it doesn't matter what the "starting time" of the Quest 3 was, it always hits at full 00, 10, 20 .... minutes

Try removing randomized mac address, as some routers and their new "safety" firmware updates may flag virtual mac address as possible ddos or backdoor attacks after the "government backdoor" fiasco in which illegal access to some routers by ABC using virtual mac address. I had the same issue with a new Linksys router and the log was reporting the Quest 3 as a ddos attack when using randomized mac but setting it to device mac solved the disconnects. The old Asus router (RT-ACRH18) works perfectly and better performance than the Wifi 6 router I bought to replace it so the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Can you explain what you mean and has this helped you or anyone else?

I'll just add my voice here as well.

Q3 drops wifi on 5ghz every 10 minutes or so. Connects again after a couple of seconds. Useless for PCVR games as it stands.

V65.

Have a Meta Quest 3 That is brand new.  When I do a connection to a hotspot on a cell phone, I’m able to load an access applications fine but when I am connected to our home Wi-Fi, none of the apps will load they just hang and get stuck.  Roblox will load fine but VR chat and rec room do not load

I saw a prior post that had requested a list of information so here’s what I have

  • Can you share your current Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
    • Comcast.
  • Which router are you using (Brand & Model)?
    • Have an archer aX 72 Pro wi-Fi router and we also have a modem from Xfinity that this firewall router connects to and all devices are connecting off of the archer router
  • Are your Router & Modem separated devices, or a single unit?  Separated
  • Did your ISP provide your network devices, or did you buy your own?
    • As stated, the Comcast modem is just for pulling the Internet to our archer firewall router
  • Is your network a set of mesh routers?
    • Multiple access points that pass your device between them to find the most stable connection for the device.  -No
  • Does your router have a separate guest network name?  No
  • Does your router have a separate network name for different bands?
    • We have a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz but the modem smart connects devices to manage and balance load of devices
  • Are you attempting to connect to the device using the headset's virtual keyboard or the QR code?  Using virtual keyboard to connect to the Wi-Fi
  • Have you configured the router yourself using the router's web page or companion app?  No
  • Are you attempting to connect your headset to a separate, dedicated router for your play space?  No
  • If you're looking to share more information from the headset itself for our engineering team, please use the Report a Problem feature immediately after a failed connection attempt

I'm adding to this as well

Q3 drops wifi on 5ghz every 10 minutes or so. Connects again after a couple of seconds. I have a Fritzbox 7530. the 2.4Ghz is disabled, IPV6 is turned off. I have already placed the headset onto a static MAC which made no difference. I'm on V65. I contacted meta support and after asking me to factory reset the headset which didn't resolve it, they instantly wanted to replace the headset? I assume this is a software issue but they didn't seem to know anything about it and wanted to just replace the headset?

I look through the posts and where is the Meta mod team here? It's been weeks since I have seen any updates on this and as of now the headset is useless for multiplayer which is why I bought it in the first place!

Yes I originally had same advice but I didn’t want to get a new headset as everything else is working. The second support person was much more helpful. She suggested getting a 6 ghz router which I find interesting as lots of people on the forum said 6ghz was worse. I got a Tp link mesh extender which I Ethernet connected to my modem router and so far it has been ok. It produces a 5ghz signal.

For people with Fritzbox (AMV) router, using guest wifi is a potential workaround. Make sure it connects to it with device-mac and not random.

As everybody here I have this problem of disconnection and just have one now during a game session. I would like to share a curious fact. I’ve programmed my FAI server modem parameters to provide through DHCP a dedicated fixed IP local adress linked with the Q3 Mac adress indicated in the HMD parameters let’s say Mac1=IP1, always the same.
While playing DCS I was abruptly disconnected from my 5Ghz wifi6 network then I painfully reconnected manually. However, during this painful process I discovered that the connection was done briefly with a different Mac adress and so a different local IP adress let’s say Mac2=IP2, this one I had of course never indicated to my server as a fixed local IP. I decided to go to the parameters page of my TP LiNK archer AXE 5400 6E router dedicated to establish the wireless link with my Q3 and I discovered in the client link list that I had of course my PC, as a wired Ethernet client, that had also a fixed local IP adress and my Q3 as a wireless client when I connected it. This is normal. However, I discovered also that when connected the Q3 was often first seen briefly through the Mac2 so with local IP2 adress before going then to the Mac1 so IP1 adress….i don’t know to which internal to Q3 hardware is linked this Mac2 adress…..if somebody knows why there is 2 Mac adresses linked to the Q3?,? Whatever being I was lucky to record this Mac2 adress and I created a new input in my server in order to link this Mac2 to IP1 with a fixed link. I don’t know yet if this event is the cause of disconnection nor if this solution would solve it but yes if you switch from one IP to another IP during a wireless session, it could be linked with a disconnection re connection ….so I hope having found something I will keep you informed of the result…

There is an option to use either dynamic MAC or static in the WiFi options on the Q3 mine is set to static and the problem doesn't go away.

I have given up using the headset because I can't play any multiplayer games without drop out every 10 minutes
