Quest 3 controller : Trigger sensor is very sensitive since firmware update 1.9.2

Hello

I had this problem happen to me since the Quest 3 touch plus controller firmware update to 1.9.2 I did on November 12. Before that, I didn't notice a problem with them.

Since the update the presence of my fingers are not tracked properly on the trigger especially if I move my finger up or down across the button. It will think I am not touching the trigger while my finger is still resting on it. I have to almost be perfectly centered on the button and try my best not to move it while doing my hand gestures or it will think my finger is not touching it.

I already contacted the support team and they sent me replacement controllers with the same issue.

I hope Meta is reading this so they can notice the regression since 1.9.2 and make an update soon.

I managed to get an update from our internal team, and it looks like the best course of action here would be to submit a bug report so that they can get a more in-depth look. Along with that, I'd suggest testing out the below troubleshooting:

  1. Clean the controller
    • You can also use compressed air to remove any debris inside the controller
  2. Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect button movement or controller detection (such as controller covers, controller attachments, etc.)
  3. Remove the battery from the controller for at least 30 seconds
  4. Unpair and pair again the controller to the headset

Apart from this, I'd recommend keeping in touch with the support team. If you're having some trouble with the email team, you can always reach out to MetaStoreHelp through PM for them to look into your support ticket.

TheAntiSocializer  So when can we expect a fix ?

I think there's enough people complaining about it and it's been long enough for us to have a minimum support here don't you think ?

Hello everyone.

Please allow me to join you all in this wonderful journey of having a problem with quest and meta just not caring at all, i got my quest 3 just recently, the first games i played didn't specifically need trigger sensor so i didn't notice this issue at all but then i started to play "i expect you to die" and suddenly my finger is jumping up and down in the game, at first i thought it's a bug in the game but then i closed the game and saw that in ar mode it is still moving my index finger, for a few days i thought it was a hardware issue i really got scared. Thank god i found this post or else i would have gone crazy.

So back to meta, why do you keep insisting that the troubleshoot methods you mentioned are the solution and why in the world is this marked as solved, you are not gonna fix it? Fine you are just relying messages, but at least don't mark it as solved. Why do you keep saying contact support, what is that gonna change? All the information are already mentioned by the strangely patient people here, if support is gonna do anything i think this is more than enough information.

Sorry if i sound a bit aggressive but it's really frustrating, not the issue itself but the fact that this issue was mentioned IN 2023 AND THERE HAS BEEN NO PROGRESS AT ALL

This is most likely both a combination of hardware and a firmware issue. It has apparently been swept under the rug, because they would have to shell out too much money to fix it, as I assume it's a problem with nearly all Quest 3 hardware. This said, the only way this will ever be addressed is if a big named streamer/promoter for Meta products blows this wide open, to get the attention of the general public. I think a lot of people either think it's isolated, don't know about this thread and/or hasn't played a game/app that is affected by this blatant issue. It has not only turned me off to using the headset like I planned to, but I will also never purchase a product from them again. This is unethical what they are doing, as they know they released a faulty product to the masses.

No this is not solved and we'll still be ignored here. Guaranteed. (REDACT)

The mods and admin here have no power, they care just as less as Meta cares about their support. What's the points ? You already bought their 500+ bug-riddled headsets who cares about what your experience is like.

MetaStoreHelp TheAntiSocializer or anyone that can actually be competent in helping.

First, you need to remove the "solved" tag of this thread. Nothing has been resolved and a lot of people have been saying the current solution does nothing. (It's insulting you think this is a solution we haven't tried already). Do you think we're stupid enough to believe this is fine ? You want people to look elsewhere instead of noticing how bad this case has been handled ?

Second, you need to provide a proof that your engineers are "looking into it". You think we trust anything you would say without any proof when it's been a year now ?

Lastly, we've been providing everything we can to adress the issue and you're not even cooperating with us. Why not? Are you afraid to appear bad in front of us saying you have no idea how to fix this? Like that's not already the case?

It's a shame a multi million dollar companies has these kind of issues, I have the same issue with my left controller. I fixed it by disassembling the controller completely but that fix only lasted for a month and it went back to having issues again, luckily I'm tech savvy with these kinds of things but absolutely shame on meta for their negligence to this absurd issue, I think the issue is because the controller has a small aluminum sheet that acts as a conductor (I don't know exactly how it works but if you put your finger near it I guess it gets resistance) for some reason the design team though it was a good idea to run the contact through a spring to get to the board, it runs from.the inside of the trigger, through the spring that moves the trigger, and back to the board. The controller is horribly designed plus we also have software issues to boot? I love VR very much but this is bs, please meta just fix your stupid software issue

No you're right, they're too busy editing posts to remove any harsh comments that makes them sad instead of providing any support to their costumers

I have this same issue. It's been months, no fix. I've had a controller replacement from support, and it also has the same issue. What makes the problem worse is it's like they take turns. The left controller will have the issue, and the right one will be fine, but then later they will just switch. This means the left controller is fine, and the right controller is having issues. This bug is so annoying with games that depend on the touch trigger, for example, VRChat.

Today I was playing VRchat and noticed my left controller seemed to be responding properly again. I know a few days ago I got the V68 update which updated the controllers as well, and it was after that I noticed the controller working properly again. i'm hoping this is a sign that meta finally fixed the controller issue in software. can anyone else with V68 confirm this?

Hi, Proto_cone and welcome to the Meta Community Forum. We hope you have fun here!

Can you provide a bit more detail on the controller issue you are experiencing so I can point you in the right direction?

Is it also an issue regarding trigger sensor sensitivity like as described by the OP?

Hope to see you engaging on more community posts in future!

Oh hey, so the problem with my left controller is that for some reason the index trigger doesn't work properly, like when I have my index finger on the trigger it doesn't even register that my finger is on the trigger nor when I actually press the trigger. It is only on my left controller and this a brand new controller that I recently bought.

Hey Lobster5215,

Thanks for posting into our forum. We can see you're having some issues with your controller trigger is a bit too sensitive after the last update, we'd love to look into this for you! Firstly, we'd like to offer a few simple troubleshooting steps for you to try and see if this helps out at all:

  • Clean the controller
    • Compressed air can be used to remove any debris inside the controller
  • Remove unsupported third-party accessories that may affect button movement or controller detection. For example, controller covers, controller attachments, etc.
  • Remove the battery from the controller for 30 seconds. Try a new battery.
  • Unpair and pair the controller to the headset

If you could give these few steps a try that would be great and just report back to us how it goes!

Cleaning your controller does nothing, its doing it to my brand new controllers. either you sold us defective equipment, or you have firmware issues that you refuse to acknowledge
