Question

Random disconnecting after Meta Quest 3 v76 update (April 2025)

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask if anyone has been encountering issues after the last April update, around 24th April to be exact. I mainly use the headset with wired link to play VR sim racing. Before this update, I had absolutely no issue, shortly after the install, the VR connection is lost after about 15-30, after an intense session.

Is there any fix for this? I saw that there is no way to roll back the driver... which is quite a shame. I was so excited after I bought it and set it up, only to have it crash now every half an hour.

I thought it had the charger with it. It doesn't just plug the usb-c one that came with the quest

I also have that INIU cable that charges while playing... it used to work amazingly from OCTOBER 2024 all the way to APRIL 2025... but this month, every 10-50 minutes when playing in link mode, the link completely freezes... the computer (i9, 4090rtx) keeps working fine, but the quest visuals freezes and produces some super nauseating mozaic visuals while everything is frozen...

If i press "home" on right controller, then exit the quest link, then reconnect, i can keep going as if nothing happened (well except i will have failed the current song in beatsaber during that 5-10secs while it froze).. However that will usually result in another freeze withing a few minutes again over and over...

If i unplug the cable from the headset, wait a few seconds, then replug it, and then reconnect, it will usually keep working for much longer before freezing again...

I tried contacting support as well, but was told the usual useless responses : "format your device, reconnect everything, reinstall everything, etc etc..."

I tried messing with the Oculus Debug Tool (i had the mbps set at 900... changed it to 500, then 300) but that didnt solve anything and its still occurring.

Originally I thought it was something on my system, or something that I did, but after reading EVERY SINGLE PAGES of this thread, AND considering how buggy their remote desktop exe has been since this past DECEMBER (see : https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/Meta-Quest-Remote-Desktop-exe-crashing-in-background/m-p/1309022/emcs_t/S2h8ZW1haWx8dG9waWNfc3Vic2NyaXB0aW9ufE04WDFVQVZDRkI2U0tMfDEzMDkwMjJ8U1VCU0NSSVBUSU9OU3xoSw#M362067) I now have no doubt its something stupid or bad that they put into one of the latest updates that messes it up for all of us...

Yes this is exactly the problems Im having, the pattern you describe that appears while everything is frozen. So this happens with a different type of cable from the official one too. They keep gaslighting us customers to update our drivers etc. when it is in fact they themselves that caused this issue with a faulty software update. Insane.

If its a software issue then everyone would be experiencing the same problem. I am not experiencing any issues. I'm wondering if it's a range is motherboards that are affected and not the software. I'm on msi x470 gaming pro carbon. What motherboard is everyone using?

I strongly doubt it could be hardware based directly... at worst it could be some incompatibility with a windows KB fix... it could in theory also be driver based (if some usb3 driver for windows 10-11 doesnt have the same version), in which case, it would be the motherboard drivers -- I have an Asus z790-plus wifi if you are curious.

The fact that the problem is so random and can occur extremely frequently or pretty rarely makes it also very hard to analyse... someone a few pages ago mentionned looking at the oculus logs to see what was happening behind the scenes when the freeze occured, that would probably tell us way more about what caused it.

I played yesterday night with my wife (about 20mins of "Twinmotion" (unreal engine) then a bit over 1h00 of beatsaber) and somehow never got a single freeze... yet in the afternoon i did about 20mins of beatsaber and got two freezes until i disconnected the cable and reconnected it.. then was able to do another 10-15mins without a bug.

Yes, having had no problems with Link at all since purchase late-2024, following the April update, the whole system has collapsed. I've spent several weeks discussing with Meta support staff, who have sent me off tweaking or reinstalling software, drivers, Windows settings etc etc etc. None of it has made any improvement and the platform is basically unusable. I was intending to use the Quest 3 over Link for research purposes, and I've had to switch over to using an HTC Vive instead due to these stability problems. It's very disappointing.

Steps that Meta support staff had me do (none of which helped stop Link disconnections):

Ensure Air Link is off and the Windows 'connect to USB has not been enabled'
Update all graphics drivers, and check for any USB driver updates from manufacturer
Test cable (I was using official Oculus cable) and USB port are running at USB3 protocol dataspeeds (in Quest Link app device setup)
Reinstall Quest Link app multiple times (when uninstalling it, the uninstaller fails to remove some files in \AppData, which have to be manually removed)
Direct Windows graphics settings to use the dedicated Nvidia GPU for the OVRServer_x64.exe and OculusClient.exe programs
Assign high priority to OVRServer_x64.exe service in Task Manager

I also switched the runtime from SteamVR over to the Oculus runtime, which I was unable to do from the Quest Link app (yet another bug) and had to do manually via the Registry Editor: Re: how to fix Oculus is not set As the default op... - Meta Community Forums - 1158145

The final piece of support advise was 'try another computer'. So, at that point, I have to go to another headset manufacturer that can provide a stable solution for my work.

Meta doesn't seem to want to test its own software properly before release, and prefers instead to rely on customer testing and (in my case) several weeks of wasted time and frustration.

PS. I've also been extracting the log files to send to support staff. I don't think they really analyse these properly, they just look for any drivers on the system that seem like they could be updated. Headset logs can also be viewed in Meta Quest Developer Hub, which, for me, whenever a disconnect occurred, showed the message:

    16/05 11:29:20.787 { !ERROR!} [Kernel:Error] [Aggregated 22 times] OVR Error:

      Code: -6102 -- ovrError_XRStreamingUSBIssue

Description: WinUsb_Initialize(0x00000000000020A0) failed: (8) Not enough memory resources are available to process this command.

Support staff did not offer any insight into what these messages indicate, but this has cropped up previously: Question in regards to WINUSB failed to initialize... - Page 4 - Meta Community Forums - 1134704

Where are those stored? Next time i get a freeze i'll immediately go and make a backup of the log files so that i can ask my own custom AI some assistance and fix the actual problem myself! 😛 (i doubt its that simple if its the update to the link software that caused it but still... having a copy of the log immediately after a freeze would be a good thing)

The logs can be extracted using the log gatherer tool (usually found in C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics\OculusLogGatherer.exe), which must be run using admin. Ensure you select 'full logs'. A zip file should be automatically created on the desktop, and also copied to the clipboard.

To view running logs while connected to Link, download and install Meta Quest Developer Hub (developer account is needed to run the software).

I had another pc meta update today, albeit a very short download time and the PC app version number didn't change. I'm quietly confident it ight have fixed the issue for me as I've had an hour flight in DCS with no problems.
