Crescent Bay headphones a joke??

should not be attached where you can't use your own headphones..

personally earbuds are best like the Bose QC20 where it is active noise cancelling

its far superior than over ear because the bass is deep because of the seal

no overear as it heats up the ear as well

@AntDX316: Are you serious or just trolling?
You think 2 reviews out of 80 on a plattform like amazon support your point of view?
Where the first one either doesn't like the soundsignature which says nothing about quality or is also trolling because the beats don't stand a chance against even my K701.
The second one is especially weird: Complaining about open headphones being open :? You'd expect people to inform themself better before spending ~1500$ ...

Why are you so obsessed with noise cancellation? Do you want to use your rift at a train station? As I use my rift at home with nobody in the room I really don't care if the headphones let sound in or out.

When you say "inear instead of over ear for best sound reproduction" your only partly right. As pointed out many times in this thread, it doesn't matter if your inears sound "best" if they are incompatible with the hrtfs used by the game.

Also it seems you're not after the most accourate reproduction but loads of bass. Things like crystalizer and v-shaped geq speak a clear language...
And that's the point where I simply have different goals: If I think of virtual reality, I want exact reproduction capabilities. If in the game a lightning strikes, there should be exact the same amount of bass as percieved in real life, not more. Of cource the dev should be able to do surreal stuff, but the capability of exact reproduction is important.

PS: I'm not all against Inear or a Sennheiser fanboy, I also own inears and think that sennheiser is overpriced. The K701 where a bargain, else I wouldn't have gotten them.
But for VR/HRTF, at least at the moment open over ear headphones are the way to go.

Those Amazon 1 Star reviews for those headphones just proves how dumb some consumers can be.

`My sons Beats sound better (than 1500 dollar open back headphones)`

    and

    `They leak too much sound`

Not s**t Sherlock- I would be disappointed if open back headphones didn't leak sound.
Dumb and dumber. Open back headphones are designed to `leak` sound.

The majority of people listening to modern, over compressed garbage music at MP3 qualities have no valid opinions over which headphones are the best/worst, you simply aren't experiencing the best from headphones listening to any compressed audio- so can't be making a valid judgement imo.

The other mistake people make is buying high impedance headphones that require a headphone amp to really push the headphones- wonder why their IPod makes the headphones sound shit.

    1. This has NOTHING to do with sound quality.
    2. This is like buying a banana and giving it a review like this "Tastes too much like banana and not like pineapple. Me and my wife dont like the taste of banana. Will not eat. Its a shame that this banana does not taste like pineapple"
IT'S A OPEN HEADPHONE, IT WILL LEAK SOUND. If you want closed then buy closed.

ok the conclusion of the thread is comparing a $200 mobile audio gadget which features a detachment from the surroundings using DSP (Which is actually a good idea if you are spend much time using public transportation) to $1500 reference Studio headphones (Which is actually a good idea if you work in professional audio mastering).

Both aren't relevant to a $300-$400 consumer VR headset which needs a reliable, low cost, low manufacturing tolerances, accurate phase response standard sound engine for a special licensed HRTF software.

Well the hd800 should work with binaural audio quite well. I have used it with dolby headphone and it has done it ok.
But back to topic. Some people are worried that the headphones will either suck or add hundred dollars to the price. But manufacturers like Superlux make good quality headphones for 30 euros. If we remove everything other than the elements we should be left with about 10-15 euros of price increase for headphones that should sound better than the 50-150 eur headsets.

But this is speculation as i have not tried superluxes my self.

if you cannot credibly contribute to the comparison then don't post

hoping Oculus will test out the QC20s and see if it's bad or I'm right and they will do active inear style for their headset that they decide to permanently attach to the CV headset

might be better to have 3.5mm or 2.5mm jack on the CV so people can select from different priced HRTF Oculus-certified tested approved earbuds/overears

some people prefer inear and some don't it seems regardless of better bass and replication due to the tightness of inear and bad heat generation, sweat, ,heavy weight, cost cons of overear

Have you ever heard Killing in the name by rage against the machine? Somehow it came to my mind when reading this. :D

Who said that they will be permanently attached? The current ones are removable AFAIK.

    2.5mm? This is not a phone from 2001. :D

My HD800 has tight and precise bass and it also has wider sound stage than ANY inear i have tried. (I have tried many, currently i have Klipsch in ears.)
You keep talking about the bass like it was the only think you care about. You sound like you like louder bass rather than more accurate bass. How about forgetting the in ears then and getting something like this? :D
I have NEVER tried any over ear that was too heavy. Is your head made of jello?
And like i already posted good cheaper over ears can be had for 27 euros.
